Strength:

Picture quality, flat screen, means you can sit and watch from most angles.Very easy to read owners manual.

Weakness:

Weight(if you are carrying this alone don't!, get a helper)A bit pricey for a 24 inch set.

I ordered this set around Thanksgiving for a Christmas present for me and my wife. This set seems to be a hot seller for Sony, as I did not get it in my possession until after Christmas. My dealer from whom I have purchased lots and lots of equipment, could not(or would not)discount this set. I hate having to pay advertised prices for anything and always feel that electronics have a huge markup. Well people, this is a set where you will have to pay full price for unfortunately. That all said, the set is in my bedroom and looks fantastic!! I think Sony could have added 1 or 2 extra s-video connections, what could that cost on such an expensive set already? I have the set connected to my Sony DSS B-55 reciever and a JVC S3800r S-VHS vcr, this thing looks absolutely beautiful. So tell me how do I install my Toshiba DVD player into this system with only 1 s video input? I replaced a 19 inch Toshiba that gave me over 10 years of viewing pleasure with no problems until recently. I'm hoping that this Sony gives me the same amount of time if not more.

Strength:

Great Picture, Especially With DVD, Many Features For 24", Great Sound When Not In Simulated/SRS...We Get The Hum/Hiss, Great Picture, Sharp, Rich Colors. Price Dropped To $499.99

Weakness:

No Front S-Video, Some Sound Quirks In SRS/Simulated Modes, Steady Sound Doesn't Work, Heavy, A Little Expensive

I Purchased This TV Over A Year Ago For A Family Member After Their Unreliable RCA Had Seen It's Day, And It's Still Going Strong. This Is An Impressive TV For It's Size But A Bit Heavy For A 24" Though...81 Pounds!!! Has Many Features, S-Video, SRS Surround Sound, Comb Filter, 20 Watts Stereo Amp/10W Per Channel. Although I Do Wish It Had A Front S-Video Input, Does Have Front A/V Inputs But Not For S-Video, Must Go Around The Back. A Few Other Competitors Offer Front S-Video. But The Headphone Jack Was A Very Nice/Welcomed Feature On The Front; Perfect For Not Disturbing Others For Night Listening. The Steady Sound Feature Didn't Work Though, In Order For The Volume To Stop Spiking From Channel To Channel, Commercial To Commercial, I Had To Turn The SRS Sound Off And Simply Leave It At Stereo Volume, Otherwise You Can Definitely Notice The Volume Increase. The Steady Sound Feature Did Nothing To Correct That, Not Sure If It's Defective But Simply Doesn't Work. Also There's An Annoying Hum/Hiss Coming From The Speakers When In SRS/Simulated Surround Mode. I Correct That By Just Leaving That Off, The Sound Is Still Good Without That Anyway. The Picture, Color & Sharpness Are Incredible With DVD, Nothing Like It, Very Rich, Deep Color And Very Sharp. With Cable Though You Have To Experiment With The Color & Picture Settings A Bit To Compensate For Lack Of Resolution, Not The TV's Fault At All, Comcast's. It Has 4 Settings For Picture, Vivid, Movie, Sports & Standard. I Think The Movie Setting Should Be Used At All Times! Vivid And Sport Settings Are Too Bright With Color Bleeding. Movie And Standard Are Good! It's Simple Enough To Use As Well. On Screen Menus Are Accessed By "Menu" Button On Remote Or Front Panel And Using The Right Or Left Buttons To Navigate Picture/Sound Adjustments. It's Truly A Very Good TV. I'd Definitely Recommend It Without Hesitation. I Purchased This From Outpost.com A Little Over A Year Ago For $549.95, A Bit Steep, But Back Then They Still Offered Free Overnight Shipping And No Tax So We Did Ok Overall.

Strength:

color, picture, setup menu

Weakness:

high price, heavy, no component input

Good picture, colors, remote control.
Colors could be more natural.
The steady sound feature does not seem to work properly. Even the TV is connected to cable broadcast, the TV tuner still need to be amplified with a signal amplifier in order to provide good picture. The $17 cable signal amplifier at the Bestbuy (also available at Radio Shack) seems to do a very good job! It would be nice if Sony provide a component input with this high priced model!

Strength:

Great picture, ok speakers for TV, nice flat screen, just looks sharp

Weakness:

Heavy, the annoying "pop" sound when TV starts up (although I have heard this on many SONY televisions that I have seen)

The reason I went for this model was because CC was having this up for open box buy, and I dealt with the rep and got the price down to $380. I was ready to pay $400 at fry's for another open box set, so this was even better. The set is very heavy, I was afraid I might slip and drop it when I was carrying it upstairs, but I made it safely. The clarity of the picture is amazing once calibrated. And this has that 16x9 "squeeze" also that other sony tvs have. Just go into the service mode and do some "stuff." I usually don't bother with that because it takes so long to setup before watching movies, but there is a slight increase in picture quality, even on a small 24" screen.

This is actually a re-review, I have a review in the 24FV10 post, even though I have a 24FV12. This is a great TV, but I would not pay the $550 that it's going for in the stores. For that money I can get a 27" wega. If you happen to find a deal for this baby, get it. You won't regret it.

Strength:

GREAT Sound and picture!, Cool WEGA flat television., very nice design.

Weakness:

no component input, weight (80lbs), no component input!!

I have to admit, the reason I bought this television was because I wanted something to use my Playstation 2 on. And I didn't just purchase this model because of the Sony name either- but really there wasn't anything out there that was in the same range as the KV24FV12 so I really had no choice-and I can tell you I am not dissapointed.
The most impressive feature is the flat screen. The WEGA'S have beautiful flat screens. They have to be seen! Anywhere you sit, you can basically have a full 180 degree perfect view of the picture (it doesn't distort pictures like regular curved screens), and it also seems to reduce that annoying glare from light sources. That combined with a S-Video input in the back of the television makes watching DVD's great. Although i'm using the PS2 as a DVD player, just imagine what it would be like if I hooked up a higher end player to it!

Sound:
The sound is also a great feature. If your not planning to buy a whole speaker set up, the 10 watt (each) built in, side-firing, speakers, combined with the sets built in SRS (Sound Retrevial System) 3D audio processing effects really make a difference. I was checking out this SRS sound technology at www.srslabs.com (check it out!!) and the technology is really amazing. Although it's not true "3D sound" and it only approximates it (and lets face it, nothing compares to a true sourround sound setup), for built-in speakers it sounds amazing. I watched several DVD movies with this thing enabled and it really does sound like your in a theather, and the 10 Watts/speaker really pump out bass and treble amazingly.

Picture:
The picture is clean and bright. The set has a 3-line digital comb filter that... (well i'm not really sure what they do, but it looks amazing). Playing my PS2 games on this set, with the signal coming thru an S-Video input just has to be seen to be believed. As I said before, this is a 24" set, which is just below most of the 27", and you really can't tell a difference. For a medium size room, or for students (like myself) who are on a budget- but still want the best!!- this is a great comprimise to the 27 inchers.

Looks:
On the asthetics side of things, the KV24FV12 looks great in any setting. All of the WEGAS have this nice greyish paint job that seems to fit in with any decor (really!!)
And it looks really kick ass beside a PS2!!
:-)

My only gripe is that it doesn't have any component inputs, just an S-Video input in the back and 2 composite inputs (one in front, one in the back).
Overall this is a great set. For 24" you get quite a lot out of this model WEGA. In fact, most of the features included in this 24" model are only also availiable on the higher model WEGA's like the side-firing speakers and the SRS sound, so for what your paying, it's a great deal.
I've also read some places about the WEGA's having some "geometry issues" like picture distortion and the like, well from my use (about 3 months now) I have no such problems whatsoever. And this set is virtually turned on all the time! I have people and friends coming into our dorm room (where the TV is set up) playing on the PS2 almost 24/7!! So there are no overheating problems or geometry problems, etc. (for my TV at least- thank God!!!!)

Overall I highly recommend the Sony KV24FV12 WEGA or any other Sony WEGA. They are really great sets for those who don't want/need to spend a lot of money on the 27 or 34 inchers. And as I said above, for 24 inches, you really are getting a lot for your money.

Oh and one more thing, if you do plan on getting this set, have someone help you carry it around. At 80lbs this thing is heavy!! I almost broke something.
