Strength:

Super picture, great control flexibility, and the 16:9
16:9 enhancement, control flexibility, and picture

Weakness:

chintzy remote, faint bar on component inputs

Mainly writing this so others considering the XBR series are
aware that the 16:9 enhancement is also available in the
lower FS series, 16, and 12, even though the owner's manual
says they do not have this feature.
I have the KV36FS12. (Paid $1350)
I do have the very faint sweeping bar across the picture with component input viewing. Most of the time I can't see it unless I purposely look for it.
Maybe they got rid of it on the new XBRs but kept it for the
lower models!
I plan to have the gray scale calibrated, and have the HOSC set up per the link on other messages on this board. This apparently fixes it.
But overall these sets are fantastic! Distortion is very minimal considering the full flat sweep of the picture and overall size; it's quite an accomplishment.
Having full control of 4 modes of viewing regardless of input is also a major plus. Aesthetics of the remote are not up to the rest of the TV.

Strength:

Picture images and reception is far superior than any television sets I have ever seen. It's awesome! just an excellent piece of electronic with an unbelievable technology. For those who truly want to experience and appreciate real image-popping quality of their DVD players, this TV is it.

Weakness:

None so far.

Just an awesome television. Images from any source is brilliant and sharp, not to mention when teamed up with DVD playes this TV is a true theater quality. The four video selections is just a great addition. Menu is quite easy to use and ine doe not need to look at the manual..very user friendly. It's matching stand is a must get for this set. Overall, I truly love this television and could not find any other television of its caliber anywhere. Pricewise it's a little hefty but worth it. This is a must have piece of technology. And oh, the remote headset..it's great, especially if you want privacy.

Strength:

Excellent picture, smart programming capabilities, beautiful television set.

Weakness:

Heavy and pricy. Paid $1,950. Need sturdy furniture to hold this monster. Recommend Belloggetti or Billy Bags.

When I first started looking for a TV, I wasn't planning on spending this much. I saw the 36XBR and fell in love. This TV is smart and good looking. It weighs around 250 pds., so make sure your stand can hold it. It has plenty of audio/video connections, but only one s-video connection. But that shouldn't be a problem, I relayed through my VCR. I have not noticed any distortion around the edge or or center of screen like other reviewers have found with the smaller sets. There might have been some problems with the XBR 250 series but Sony has fixed everything with the newer 251 series. It is relaxing to watch anything on this TV. I have no complaints or regrets.

Strength:

Beautiful television. Can't stop watching it. I wanted it from the first second I laid eyes on it and it hasn't been a disappointment. I've been playing with the menu to get the set up that suits me, although I change something every day.

Weakness:

None.

Couldn't ask for anything better. We are now shopping for a DVD player.

Strength:

Its a Sony, built like a tank. Familar Trinitron menus. Good looking case.

Weakness:

Weight, but not too bad.

32" XBR > Awsome picture. That explains it. I have read a few reivews that say " if you feed it crap it will look like crap" this is true. I still think that sony makes the best TV's for the price. Of course you could spend 7000 on a better TV, but 1450 for this HD ready set is a reasonable price. The PIP works great ! the best PIP I have seen yet. I haven't gotten a chance to use the 480p scan features, I will soon =) I have regular cable service and there are some channels that really SHINE with color brillance. If your debating about buying one of these don't . Get it. Thats all there is to it, you won't regret it as long as you get a good unit. Mine is perfect, on the first try. VERY HAPPY

Strength:

Clear and crisp picture resolution

Weakness:

Very heavy to move

I bought the XBR32 Wega initially but knew I should go 'bigger'. I returned the 32" for the 36" XBR and haven't regretted it. Also thought about getting the new 40" XBR but that's another $1300! After adjusting the color, tint, brightness, etc, the picture is incredibly sharp and lifelike. TV set-up took only a few minutes. This is a 2001 model and it has 6 video inputs in the back (2 component video and 4 s-video/audio)and 1 s-video/audio input in front. In the age of satellite and DVD, you need plenty of video input.

I also thought I would save money by buying a less expensive stand (but a stand that could hold the weight). I also returned that for the matching XBR stand. I see this as an investment, since I plan to keep this TV for some time and I have to look at it everyday. It may as well be stylish as well as functional! Be aware that the TV weighs almost 230 lbs so you won't want to move it too much.

I also spend some coin on decent cables (didn't bother to continue using the cheap cables that came with the VCR, DVD, and receiver). Bought audio cables, component video, audio/video, optical, ... the works. Acoustic Research are very good quality and reasonably priced cables, unlike the Monster Cable line. I've definitely seen the improvement in the picture and sound quality.

Strength:

Good picture.

Weakness:

Same TV as the Panasonic TAU Hi Def. Dont be fooled. They are identical down to the parts inside them. Dont pay the extra $$$ for the four letter word SONY. The reason Sonys always look better in the show room is because the retailers must sign a contract which states that sony TVs must be tuned up in terms of birghtness, contrast etc. All others must be thrown off. Otherwise they loose their sony contract. Dont be brainwashed.
