Price performance ratio

It's pretty clear by the two posts before mine, the idiot has an unshielded speaker to close to his television! I have no magnitize problem in the "upper left hand corner". The Television was clearly better than the other 27" non-flat screen competition in side-by-side comparisons, and it was less expensive! I've got a DVD hooked up through the companant inputs and it looks wonderful. Also have my video games coming in the s-video input and they look great as well. I couldn't be happier, unless I had a substantialy larger budget.

Weakness:

Magnetized corner and no degauss

This review is for the 27A41.

I'm on my second one, and both out of the box have a green patch in the upper left hand corner. Second one is even worse than the first. There is no built-in degausser or any ready means to correct this problem. It is unacceptable, even for under $300.

The price is good and is a positive, but it can't compare to my base Sony 27" (which cost more). My Sony does not have component inputs, but DVD's on the Sony look better on Svideo than do DVD's on the Toshiba on component video, especially regarding text.

Bottom-line, if you get one that doesn't have the gauss problem, you are luckier than I. Picture quality is not bad for the price, but it's not great either. Oh, the remote sucks too.

Strength:

# of inputs, programming, picture quality

Weakness:

Remote, digital quality

Overall, I can't complain. Price compared to the bells and whisltes, it is awesome. Picture quality is great for almost all situations. DVD pictures are great. Only draw back, and it may not be a TV issue, is dark scenes on our digital cable channels. Tends to "tile" at times in black are very dark settings.

Aside from that the picture quality is good. Combined with the ability to manage colors and hardness settings. The inputs on the back are plenty. Has Component Video, S-video (shared on input 1), coaxial input, and 2 Composite Video jacks w/sound. All of my video and sound run through my receiver. The S-video carries the signal great, better than the coax does (obviously, though on some sets you can't notice any difference.)

We caught this on sale at Best Buy (yes, they actually had something in stock for once!) after our JVC died (picture tube, it was 20 years old.) It was time to upgrade anyway.

I'm totally satisfied. It's not HD, but until the networks actually start carrying mandatory HD programming in 2004, this TV will rock.

16x9 format HDTV set is next purchase. We'll see what Toshiba offers at that time.

You won't be sorry with this TV.

Strength:

*picture quality
*s-video inputs
*RCA audio in/out

Weakness:

*Remote control!
*Lacks front A/V inputs (which practically every other set in this range has)

Great picture quality! The best model on display at best buy (besides the $500 or so Sony Wega), but then again, you can't tell much from Best Buy's floor models a lot of the time.

S-Video and Component Video inputs are great for future expandability. (But I'm glad I didn't buy a new Component Out DVD player because I found out that S-Video and Component aren't that different in a set this size).

It's also great how there are Audio outputs on the back (And VIDEO! outputs).

The Remote is big and clunky, and is really spread out (used to small dish network's small remote). It is very confusing and poorly laid out when you're new to the set.

A MAJOR downfall it has is the lack of Front A/V inputs (for my camcorder). Any $300 TV should have them (maybe even with S-Video inputs too)

Strength:

For the price, S-Video and Component Video inputs

I was on a tight budget and for the money I paid I think I got a great TV. It has S-video and component inputs and I have my DVD player hooked up to the component video inputs. The picture is as good as you are going to get, for the money. If you are on a tight budget, I would recommend looking at this TV.

Weakness:

Not a great remote

I was on a tight budget and looking for a 27" tv that had component video inputs. The only brands I considered was Sony, Toshiba, and Philips and thought the Tosbiba had the best value. The price for it was great considering the value. Only had it for one month but have not had any problems whatsoever.

Strength:

Clarity of picture, bang for the buck!, remote, Color Stream component input

Weakness:

not a flat screen

This is a great TV. Rumour has it that Toshiba will discontinue the line in 2001 so distributors and retailers are selling it, here and there, at low prices to clear them out. Keep an eye out. The only London Drugs selling it for $450 was the Yates Street location in Victoria. All the rest listed the price at $599

Having three seperate inputs (including component inputs and s-video) makes this TV highly versatile especially for under $500. Watch out buying this for larger rooms. 27" fit best when you are 10 feet or less away from the TV. Any farther and you should buy 32".

The remote is a learning universal but it only controls a DVD and VCR. I have Shaw's digital box so we use that remote. Otherwise it is a good remote.

I like this TV and this price.

Strength:

Picture, inputs, remote

Weakness:

Less flat than some

Picture is great with a little tweaking (turn down the searing contrast!). DVD is awesome, crystal clear, with vibrant, natural colors. Cable looks almost as good, probably due to the nice 3D comb filter. Lots of inputs... including component inputs was a brilliant marketing ploy for Toshiba, but they can offer only the slightest improvement over S-video on a small mainstream set like this. The remote is vastly better than others I've seen in this price range, nice layout and feel. The menus are straightforward and don't block the screen for tweaking. The sound is fine, and the "surround" setting widens the stereo image and actually can sound 3D sometimes. This set is a great value, you'll have to spend twice this price for a superflat TV to get anything better.
