Weakness:
Super heavy when you move to a new house. Grey borders when not stretched Interlaced is no good I went to Best Buy looking into getting a HDTV. I decided on 30HF84 despite all the negative lashings. I have discovered why this TV has problems... It can be for many reasons. As long as you keep all of these things in mind and don't get a set with a broken tube you should be ok. Think Magnets... Speakers have magnets... the Earth.. well is a magnet and has the biggest effects on the geometry of this system. Next to that I have noticed that the interlaced signal looks terrible because well... it is terrible to begin with. I use an Xbox as my primary DVD player and by default it is interlaced. Yeah weird huh? All you have to do is modify the xboxdash.xbe with a hex editor and walla! Progressive scan DVD goodness. Also consider getting something other than the M$ HD cables as there are better ones out there for the Xbox. Another thing that drove me crazy was having to wait a month for best buy to buy the TV from Toshiba and send it to me at a higher rate of course. *sigh* I also HATE the grey border that shows if you don't stretch out the picture. WTH would you make the borders grey and not black? Over all I am very happy with this TV. Here is a tip for all you XBOX freaks. Throw away your old Xbox DVD controller because you won’t need it anymore. Just program the Toshiba DVD position on the remote for 001 (RCA) and your all set. Make sure you leave the dongle in tho. Good luck and enjoy this awesome TV! Similar Products Used: Viewsonic 21" inch CRT |

Strength:
Display, user-friendliness, reliability, and assuming that the unit continues to perform as it has since I bought it two weeks ago ... I'm perfectly happy with my choice of this unit.
Weakness:
Hmmm, I'm still thinking on this one. I can't say that there are any weaknesses, ... and hope that it continues to provide many years of reliable performance. I've owned the Toshiba 30HF84 for several weeks, and from the moment of setting it up, and testing all connections (DVD, VCR, Component and Composite inputs, Analog Satellite, DVD Recorder etc.), my experience with this product has been a true delight. Video in 4:3 and 16:9 aspect are without convergence or other undesirable artifacts. Audio is decent (Stereo), and both broadcast video (Analog Satellite) and DVD Progressive Scan are superb! I heartily recommend the Toshiba 30HF84 without hesitation. Frankly, it was a breeze to install, configure, and now enjoy! Similar Products Used: None |

Size HD picture quaility(HDMI)
Weakness:
Analog tuner. I would sat the other guy has a defective set. I have mine hooked up with an up-conversion dvd player through HDMI and it looks beautiful. I also have it hooked to Digital Cable I have to say that the analog channels has some grainyness to them but the digital channels have a great picture. I have my box hooked up with S-Video. So I think that I am going to try Direct TV so I get all digital all the time. |

Weakness:
serious geometry; extreme griny pictures for all inputs including progressive DVD, xbox, ps2, gamecube games; convergence problem; I recently purchased this Toshiba 30HF84 HD-ready TV at $716.99 from amazon.com and from the very first day I received it, I found this TV has serious quality issues. To summarize, the geometry is so inaccurate none of the vertical lines are straight. The horizontal lines near the bottom are out of place, too. The picture on this TV is extremely grainy under all situations. It makes my progressive dvd, and xbox, ps2 games(fed through component inputs), and gamecube and dreamcast games(fed through s-video inputs), look terrible. This TV's pictures are even worse than those on my 3-year old 27" Philips analog TV, not mention a Philips HD-ready TV I owned before. There are also many pixelations around edges and some out-of-focus problems. Since Sept.9, I have called Toshiba and my local service center numerious times and tried to let them service the TV. I waited about 5 weeks and finally got two technicians come to my home to see the TV on 10/12. They did nothing to repair the TV and said they need to ask Toshiba first. When they were in my house, they did admit my TV has problems but they cannot fix it. But they changed the story later and told Toshiba there is nothing wrong with my TV and no service will be performed. Today(10/15) I even spoke to a supervisor named Andrew Trebbec but it still didn't work. They said if I need 2nd opinion, I need to pay myself to find other technicans to take care of my TV. Otherwise, my case will be terminated. Now I am stuck with this defective TV because Toshiba refuses to admit my TV is problematic and refuses to repair it. I haven't able to contact the technicans since 10/12 to ask them why what they told Toshiba is different from what they told me in my home. I feel so frustrated during those contacts with Toshiba and I can't tolerate it any more. Toshiba's customer service people seems polite but actually do not care about the customers at all. I trusted Toshiba's product and service before and that's why I bought this TV from amazon.com, an online store that doesn't take the return of large TV even it has quality issue. I am now deeply dismayed at not only the poor quality of my new TV, but also the lack of help what so ever in this regard and the fact Toshiba is trying to deny the existence of problems on my TV. This is the worst TV I have ever seen and this is the worst company and customer service I ever dealt with. It is out of my expectation that a company can be so mean to a customer. Conclusion: avoid this TV at all costs. If by any change you are still interested in it, do yourself a favor and buy it from a local store that accepts the return. Then if anything goes wrong, you won't be screwed up by Toshiba like me. Similar Products Used: Philips 30PW850H HD-ready TV |
