Strength:

Picture, Sound, A/V inputs, attractive cabinet design. (the picture listed here is NOT the same as what I have).

Weakness:

Could use a BIT more contrast in the picture at times. IT'S HEAVY! Took the wind out of me and my friend to get it downstairs. I think that it will possibly become a selling point to our home if we ever decide to move. I don't want to bring it UP the stairs.

I purchased this TV to replace an aging Sony Trinitron 27". Originally, I was looking at a 32" Sony Wega TV for $499, but I've always been eyeing the Toshibas as well. This TV, just a couple of weeks ago was at Best Buy for $819. Which was way out of my price range. So that's when I decided that I wanted the Sony Wega 32". But I thought I would think on it and decide in a week or so what I wanted to do. To my wonderful surprise, I came back to Best Buy and the 35AF44 was on clearance for $597!!! I knew right then that I'd pay the extra $100 for the Toshiba and get 3 more inches in size. I'm glad I did though. To me, it has been worth every penny. Although the Wega's picture was slightly "brighter", you can play with the settings enough on the Toshiba to keep you happy. And I'll say, it has enough settings to confuse you with. You have preset temperature settings for cool, medium and warm. Those are nice, but you can also adjust contrast, brightness, color, tint and sharpness. I find that using the "color" adjuster, it makes the colors POP on the screen more, but it can sometimes make skin tones or reds a little too pinkish. But this is another thing that requires fine tuning to get it just right. The 35AF44 has plenty of inputs on the back to keep me happy. 1 S-Video, 1 Component and a horde of composites. Plus you get another set on the front along with another S-Video, bringing the total to 2. Some of the additional features about this TV that I like are: -Velocity Scan modulation. It REALLY REALLY makes a difference in how the picture looks. You flip it on, off, on, off, on, off and you can definitely tell how it cleans up the edges and sometimes makes text more readable. I always keep it on, but occassionally turn it off with DVD's as it can get a little TOO sharp with the component video. -16:9 Movie Mode. This is a MUST FOR DVD MOVIES in wide-screen format. The difference from standard view to 16:9 mode is night and day. I didn't believe that a non-HDTV could display such an amazingly clear picture. -BBE sound enhancement. WOW, I thought the sound was pretty good to begin with, but this sound mode makes voices and sounds pop out of the TV with great clarity. I guess I'll probably try and wrap this up. But I am definitely happy with my purchase of the Toshiba 35AF44. Colors are bright, clear and vibrant. Sounds are just right... Not tinny, not muffled, and are well balanced. It has loads of features like: VSM, BBE, V-Chip, Sound leveler, lots of A/V inputs, digital filter, 16:9 mode, etc., etc. I'd recommend this television for anyone looking to upgrade their smaller sets, but still are not ready to spend the cash to take the HD plunge. If you can find this on sale in your area, BUY IT! I don't believe they are being made anymore.

Similar Products Used:

None owned that were similar. But I've watched enough movies on my sister's Wega TV and it would be very closely comparable to the picture and sound.
