I spent a few months waiting to get a deal on the Toshiba CF27G50. By the time I was ready to buy the H50 was out. It was worth the wait. The set has a great picture for a non-flat screen tv, accurate tuning and good interconnectivity. I find the remote to be relatively easy to work with and it looks cool. I was easily able to get it work with my Hitachi VCR. TV sound is okay. I have different standards for lo-fi day to day listening and hi-fi movie viewing. Built in speakers are fine for low-fi. Almost enough audio output plugs to plug everything in.

Built in two speaker surround sound is to my ears just a gimmick. It has an on screen two color on/off toggle--it's hard to tell which is which. I would like more audio input and output plugs in the back, (it has respectively, 2 and 1) though it does have one S-video input plug. It would be hard to plug in a VCR, DVD and AV Stereo receiver at the same time. Still this tv is an improvement over the 1998 G50 which only had one set of audio input plugs. The play on the temperature settings is limited. Someone who wants maximum control over the picture might prefer a higher end set.

I've been watching this tv for about a year and half. It has a great picture and very accurate tuning. It still functions as if brand new. TV speaker sound is about as good as can be expected (pretty good), though the two tv speaker surround sound seems like a gimmick. Audio sounds great through my Yamaha AV receiver. Picture in picture works great with my Hitachi VCR as the second tuner. PinP works well and was excellent for keeping track of multiple NFL games last fall--in my area the Rams, Colts, Chiefs, and oh yeah, the Bears are all on every Sunday. My kid watches a lot of Disney movies on video and they look (and sound) great. I would recommend this tv to someone like me, an audio and video enthusiast rather an audio and videophile. If you have some entertainment equipment budget constraints, this is a high quality 27" tv for under $400. Consumer Reports gave the 1998 G50 a good review and I concur for the H50.

First off, I must admit that for TV's & VCR's I am Toshiba fan. When you consider picture quality,overall quality, and price, they are just the best available.Mitsubihi and Sony Trinitron have a better picture but are usually quite a bit more expensive.[Mitsubishi may not even be making 27" & 32" sets anymore] Clean, clear picture and color with several adjustments possible. PIP works great for Sunday football.An easy to use and option filled remote, that is programable for VCR and cable.The speakers are the only weak point, though they are acceptable and of course not necessary with a seperate surround sound setup.Granted I got a great price [Dept. store floor model closeout],but even at $300- $400 this is an excellant set!

reliability....

unit went completely black two weeks after purchase. Took it to "authorized" toshiba service center,
(sucked because it was a 25 mile trip one way) they had it for 2-3 weeks, it has worked OK ever since. I figured that I paid A little more for a quality/reliable set, when i chose Toshiba, guess i was mistaken. I am in the market for a 32"-36" and will not buy another Toshiba

I have had this unit for about a year. It is a good T.V. The colors look great, but I have not been able to find the "sweet spot" to get the flesh tones to display correctly. I'm sure it's only a matter of taste, but I'm VERY picky! The sound is as good as junky T.V. speakers can be and the P.I.P. works fine (I never found a use for it, except to increase the price of the television.) For a unit that retails for $400, I think Toshiba should include a clock. I wanted a T.V. that used S-Video and this one does! The signal from the input is very clean and I found it made a noticable difference when I attached my DVD player. I feel that Sony T.V.s have a better picture, but I would not recommend one unless you purchase the extended warranty. The Toshiba seems to be built well and that can be backed up by an article I read in Consumer Reports (which ranks it highly.) Seeing is believing, so go check it out and do a side-by-side comparison with units in the same price range. You may be impressed!

I gave a value rating of 4 stars, but I would probably choose 3 1/2. The overall rating of 4 stars is accurate. It will be hard to find a better picture with S-Video and color controls for less than $375.00, even if it's not perfect :)

This is a great TV! I've had it three years and I have not had one problem.

Very easy to hook up video components.

There have been some complaints with the remote but I think it's great. Very comfortable and the buttons are spaced out so you don't hit two at the same time.

There is some glare when I watch during the daytime. But if I turn my cart away from the window it's fine.

If the current comparable Toshiba model is made as well as this, I would highly recommend it.

I was quite pleased with the set initially, having bought "quality" for once. That was short-lived, as the TV developed horizontal white lines across the top six inches. After three months! The first authorized shop (a mom-and-pop) gave up trying to fix it after 1 month (!). We moved, and took it to the Future Shop to try again. They tried another authorized centre, which gave up after 70 days!! By day 45, I was in regular contact with the Montreal Toshiba HQ. Eventually, they had the shop send the set to them where they repaired it within a week. Wonderful! Now the TV is 2 years old, and it won't shut off using the remote or button on the set. I am fed up. If this is quality, I'll stick to garbage. Please do not buy one of these sets unless you are VERY patient. By the way - Future Shop's attitude was apathetic - no extended warranty, no service! We expected them to replace the set after reasonable efforts to repair it failed. No dice.
