I read several reviews on Toshiba TVs in various home theater magazines before settling on this model.I can say that this TV is a superb value!.I paid 799 at Amazon,(locally,it was on sale for 1099)and either price is a steal.Toshiba picture tubes,FST technology, and other color decoder technology shine in this unit. Adjusting the picture using Video Esstientials test DVD was a snap, and produced a picture rivaling that of TVs in the 1200-2000 dollar range. Also, the sets theater mode offers an outstanding picture on its own. This unit has three temperature level controls, and Stereophiles Guide to Home theater states that Toshiba TVs come the closest to correct ISF standard temperature requirements. If you take the time to understand and set this model correctly, you will be treated to a visual feast.!..For under a grand!..Now thats a bargin......!..Note,this units internal sound system is average for regular TV watching, but anyone buying a 36inch TV should have a dedicated home theater system. Also, analog TV technology has come about as far as its going to now that digital is here. However, until you can swing the big bucks for that HDTV,this model will please your eyes for years!

Strength:

Exellent picture. Good sound. Alot for the money.

Weakness:

Bright red power on light.

I bought this T.V about 2 months ago and couldn't be happier with it. I have had no problems what so ever. The picture quality is the highlight of this T.V. I have it hooked up to my DVD player with the S-video connection and it looks almost 3-D. Very lush, rich colors and exelent detail. I had a hard time finding this model at a local retailer, I had to special order it. I paid $960.00 including tax and delivery. An overall very nice set. Highly recomended!!!

While I really like the features, styling and picture quality, I am very very disappointed that the high voltage transformer needs to be replaced after less than six months. Check the repair history on these units before purchasing.

This TV is da BOMB! I dont care about Sony's highend stuff and all of that projection and widescreen tv junk...for the price you pay there is no better TV on the market....the picture is so sharp with comp. video you will be shaking your head....even some of my family and friends who could care less about home theatre were amazed at the pic......DVD's that r the best looking are: Metallica :Cunning Stunts,The Negotiator and Blade....these flicks r so nice to watch..i find myself staying in on Friday nights to watch DVD's...im sorta a loser that way but this tv if you got the correct DVD player ,receiver(w/DTS) and speakers.......well........i love it.......i was at a friends house last night and he had a floor model ........that thing is so junky.....i know some people are cheap but for Gods sake..the screen was almost all white....my advice..if you got a dvd player this is the tv but for simple people who dont care bout that stuff...this is just a bigger tv......too bad digital stuff is so much $ or else everyone could enjoy it and know what im saying here. CHEERS!

Excellent Picture, remote

This TV is awesome! The picture is extremely clean and sharp. I've been looking for a new TV for about 2 months now and have spent several hours at local dealers observing the picture quality. I had my mind set on getting a Sony Wega XBR when I started looking. About the only picture I saw that was better is the Toshiba 36" CN36X81. Unless you plan on spending $3,000.00 for a 36"-40" TV this is about as good as it gets. Even if the Wega didn't cost 2x, as much I would still buy the Toshiba.
I hooked up my Samsung DVD 909 with component input and was amazed; I saw details I had never seen before in DVDs I had watched several times. Colors are deep and well defined.

I had read several posts about the cinema series having moiré problems and was very concerned about this. I didn't see the problem on any of the store display units I viewed, although I'm sure a vender would not put a unit on display with this problem. My cn36v51 does not have the moiré problem. Maybe I just got lucky. My Samsung DVD 909 didn't have the Matrix problem either. I will be receiving Avia to tune everything shortly and don't expect any problems.

I didn't use the sound much because I hooked it up to my Yamaha 5150 receiver.

Picture and easy to use...

Weakness:

Sound

I just purchased the CN36V51 on the busiest shopping day of the year. Big mistake. No mistake on the decision to buy the CN36V51 though. The picture is great, especially with the component inputs from my DVD player. The warranty was much better than the Sony, and the Sony did not have component inputs. Did not see any moire problems on this set. Can anybody tell me exactly what they see when they see the moire problem?

Moire Problem!!!!

I returned this set twice because of the Moire problem. Looks like Toshiba has not fixed the problem on the new 2000 models. I used Avia to adjust my set and once you got the flesh tones correct everybody's hair had a green tinge to it. I am completely disappointed and feed up with Toshiba! I went with my second choice which was the Sony. Should have been my first choice all along. Great picture and no moire problems!

Strength:

great picture through my satellite receiver

Weakness:

weight, sound system

Compared to the 19" I had, this baby is all I asked for.
I love the clear picture I get through my satellite reciever. I wasn't too pleased with sound system but I
have a home audio system running with it so that's not
a worry. Great TV.

I was initially sold on the Sony wega seies until a friend who sells electronics advised me to take a seriously look at the Toshiba. Good advice. This tv delivers a more lifelike image than the Sony and cost a hell of alot less. I used the Video Essentials disc to fine tune the picture and the end result comes about as close to digital quality as one can get.
I have this tv hooked up to a Toshiba 1200 dvd player with the component inputs, a Yamaha HTR 5150 reciever, Mission 701 front speakers, Mission 70c2 center channel and Mission 700 surrounds. This is a home theatre system that delivers excellent sight and sound and was relatively inexpensive. (under $3000.00).
