Strength:
I've been very happy with this TV, especially when I recently plugged in a DVD player (Toshiba SD-2800) I felt I could tap the potential of the TV finally. Now the picture just feels perfect. Besides my satisfaction with the viewing, I've had good luck regarding repairs: in over two years of ownership, including two moves, I haven't had one problem with the TV. The component inputs at back have allowed me to plug in a PSX system, VCR, DVD easily at various times, and any two of these can be attached anytime. The jacks near the bottom are pretty easy to get to (as long as I'm having an easy time crouching on my knees), and since they are recessed at least 6 inches, the TV can remain flush against the wall and I can still make component input changes.
Weakness:
Since I don't use its internal tuner (the digital cable box handles that and the TV stays on Ch3), I don't have that complaint to add. And through my use of various flat screen PC monitors and a Sony Wega TV, I'm occasionally aware of the curvature of this Toshiba tube, I don't think of it while I'm watching - it only occurs to me when I'm walking by, say, when the TV is off! Overall, I'd recommend the TV to anyone who wants an excellent picture in a moderate price range. I've had no repair trouble at all and enjoy the picture immensely. Similar Products Used: Sony Wega 27" - picture quality of the Sony is extremely crisp, but colors are a little colder (I can't say more or less accurate, but the Toshiba tube feels warmer to me, without being inaccurate) an |

Weakness:
Slow channel changing, no channel labels I picked up this TV a couple weeks ago, after getting a DVD player for Christmas. (Old TV didn't have any more inputs). I like having component video, S-video in a 27" TV, and this set has a good picture, IMHO. PIP is good, input mode switching is good, but the only two things that I don't like are the lack of channel labels (my previous TV had that, I didn't even realize how much I liked it until I didn't have it), and the fact that it's a little slow in channel switching, making it a little hard to channel surf. Regardless, it looks good, sounds good, and was a good value for the money ($360). I'd recommend it. |

Strength:
I personally feel this set has the best picture of any 27" set in its price range (~$350). This is in part due to the range the image controls offer to tailor the picture to your taste. Sound is very good also.
Weakness:
I use an antenna. I found the audio would cut out and back in on a certain station (similar to audio receivers that have "mute" turned on when listening to a marginal signal). I returned one set and tried a second unit, getting the same results. I felt this was unacceptable so I returned it and switched to a Panasonic, but I do not like it nearly as much as the Toshiba. Best image for a 27" in its price range. Watch for audio problem. |

color seem too red, no clock, cheap feeling remote Buy it from a local store, a good tv for the price. However, there is no clock on it and the remote feels very cheap looking. Picture is a little bit too red for my taste. Overall, I preferred the more $ sony set. Similar Products Used: Sony 27" |

Component video inputs, great value
Weakness:
Toshiba Service I bought this TV when I moved into my new apartment in June of 1999. The main reason I made the purchase was for the component video inputs and good reviews. For eleven months this had been a great TV. I se my cable box to flip through channels (only way I can get ESPN2 and other channels), so the slow channel change is not a concern of mine. I liked the TV so much, I bought a Toshiba SD-1200 DVD player to go with it, fed through the component video inputs. One Thursday night while watching TV, the color went wacko on me. I had vertical red and green lines along with the occaissional loss of all color whatsoever. Even my N64 fed through Video-1 was distorted. The component video inputs went unaffected however. SLOW channel changes, funky remote Overall, this TV is a great value. I bought it because of the component video. I did notice a slight red tint, but it is minimal. The biggest annoyance is how SLOW the channel changing is. When comparing the display to other 27" TVs, I noticed that the picture seemed larger when viewing widescreen formatted movies, which is nice for DVDs. |
