Strength:

sound ok

Weakness:

picture, tuner, fixed audio out only

Read as this may have been a lemon, and not reflective of the model, however....
I bought this after on-line review, and although the bottom of the 32" line, seemed to reviewed favorably. My set was awful. The lower left of the picture curved visibly upwards on all on-screen graphics, wide screen letterbox dvd's. Beyond that even DVD picture quality, although not awful, did not seem as vibrant as prior sets. My girlfriend, who seldom comments on technology, even noticed the only par performance. Additionally the picture quality varied greatly between cable channels. I would have blamed on cable, but a second set in house did not demonstrate these problems. I was convinced the digital cable I just subscribed to was poor!! However I tried to be fair and put in a service call. The tech at first argued that some of the problems were to be expected at this "quality level", but I persisted. He did some tests and concluded at least with the picture there were problems. However non service adustable. I thanked him, and returned set (pain in the butt!). Gun shy now of the product, I returned it for a Panasonic g34 32". So far very happy (see my review), and ALL problems with this set non-exisitent, including the tuner variances. The color is wonderful, and great picture!! Again maybe it was just one set, but based on some of the other features with the Panasonic I went to a different product. Just make sure wherever you buy you can return, it took 4 sets to make me happy, and absolutely no problem with the store, including letting me keep the Toshiba a/v stand(quite nice) that came with the Toshiba! I read about all the online ordering, would have been a real hassle in this situation!! I think paying even high CT tax is worth it if you are a picky consumer!

Strength:

Good Picture and Value

Weakness:

Sound Limitations, Menu Flexibility

With HDTV coming soon and my Mitsubishi dying, we did not want to spend too much for this "transitional" TV. This one fits the bill fine. The picture is very good and with the connection to my home theatre, it will work well until we spring for the HDTV. It has only been a few days but, the picture looks very good for $450. We have it hooked up to a DVD, VCR and CD changer through a Sony ES receiver so, we do not have to worry too much about the TV sound. I may have given the overall rating at 3.5, if I had the chance.

Price, Picture, Price

Weakness:

I had no one to help me lift it onto the stand, and it's HEAVY!!!

My first foray into the 32"+ field, and couldn't be happier with my Toshiba. Great picture, sound. With A $100 first-time-buyer discount at mercata.com, I paid a grand total of $439 (free shipping!). This fine set plus the Toshiba SD1200 DVD player for $160 from mobshop.com, a whole new (great) system for $600! That makes me happy!

Strength:

This tv is a great deal, and the picture is outstanding for its price.

Weakness:

Speakers are pretty weak, fixed only audio output.

I bought this tv at Best Buy for $500 with a free tv stand. I feel that I got a really good deal. This is my first tv purchase, so I decided to make it a good one by getting a large screen tv. I am very happy with my Toshiba. The picture is very clear and vibrant, and there is no discoloration in the corners. I haven't even used the S-Video inputs yet, but when I get a dvd player, I am sure I will be very pleased with the picture quality. There are plenty of inputs for me, including 2 av inputs, an output, and an s-video input. I would like a component input, but for $500 that is pretty unlikely. I am very happy with the remote, it seems very solid an easy to use.

The area where this tv is lacking is in the sound department. The speakers are way too small sounding for this large of a tv. But I use a home theater set-up any ways, so it does'nt really matter. The menus could also use some work, they are all text, no icons like it says on the web-site, but they are pretty straight-forward and easy to navigate. Also, the audio outputs are fixed-only, which doesn't let you adjust stereo sound through the tv, and you can't mute the stereo. Oh well.

Overall, this tv is a great value, and it has a great picture. Once I get a dvd player, and I can see the true quality, I might come back and give this tv a 5.

Strength:

Great picture, good set of interconnects, good on screen display

Weakness:

Sound system leaves much to be desired

I have had the Toshiba for about three months now and I can admit that I am impressed with the TV. This is my first big screen television and I am thrilled about the picture quality and features for the price I paid. Paid approx. $630 from Best Buy. They now advertise this tv for $574.

The television doesn't contain everything a tv nut would like. There is no PIP or audio modes. However, since I own a DVD plaer, VCR, DSS system, and receiver these are not a big concern. In addition, the picture quality is great. Blacks are very black and there is no bleeding of colors. Details are very sharp. I've watched many movies on DVD and the picture quality is outstanding. The tube is pretty flat so images are produced rather good. There are 3 video settings: TV, Video 1, and Video 2. Video 1 has s-video and composite jacks while video 2 has only composite jacks. Again not a problem for me since I Have an A/V receiver (Kenwood VR-309 -- Highly recommended)

The one big plus with this system is the on screen display. It features a very easy to use menu system and you can edit just about any feature of the system. It is very easy to read

The remote is also very useful. It fits well in my hand and buttons are easy to get at. The buttons are not backlit so you may have trouble seeing them in the dark. There is a little selector on the left side to control TV/cable/VCR. I've used it for the VCR and it works fine.

The only drawback I can think of to this TV is the sound system. There are only 10 watts to the stero speakers and the sound leaves much to be desired. However, since I have an A/V receiver and am planning on getting main and surround speakers this is not a big problem. The other sound feature is the virtual surround mode. I haven't found this feature very useful except for sports broadcasts. With those, you feel like you're really in the stadium. But I haven't noticed a difference with movies and other broadcast shows.

If you are in the market for a new big screen TV or are buying for the first time, I highly recommend this set. There are greater sets out there, but for the price, you get a pretty good deal.

Strength:

Great Picture, and for once, a great pre-set on THEATER mode.

Weakness:

No speaker on/off control - no mention of fixed audio output and to turn volume off when listening from receiver.

My wife and I are very happy with this set. The picture is rich, the whites and blacks are truely white and black. Good picture, even on my six hour speed VHS tapes recorded from TV. Kept in Theater Mode for all viewing.

Strength:

Picture quality, a/v inputs, s-video, on-screen display, theater mode setting

Weakness:

remote seems rather fragile, no on/off button for speakers, no tilt control function; other than that, great set

I purchased this set at bestbuy for 499. The picture on this tube is outstanding...the blacks are very clear and nice...dvd movies look superb on the set...no color bleading at all...i set the picture settings to theater mode when watching movies and couldn't be happier...i have this set hooked via s-video...the only thing i've had to correct was the yoke...it was tilted abit when i was watching letterbox movies...the repairman came to adjust it and now it's great...i've heard this is a very common problem with many sets...no big concern...that's what warranty is for...i wish it did have a tilt control so you can adjust yoke on your own but oh well...if you hook up your tv to a receiver, this set has fixed audio not variable which is great but there is no on/off button to disable tv speakers...not too bad just lower volume on set and crank up receiver...the on-screen display is very easy to understand and operate...the remote seems rather fragile IMO but it works great and gets the job done...i bought this set because i had previously purchased the magnavox TP3284C at walmart for 549.99. big mistake because the reviews on that set were bad...that set had white vertical lines when using video 1 or 2. not just my set but all sets of this model... you can't go wrong with this toshiba model though. this set rocks...i highly recommend this set to anyone searching for a lowcost 32 inch tv. the warranty service [in-home] is also hassale free and great. thanks toshiba

Strength:

Solid Color, EZ Menu Operation, Adaptability

Weakness:

No Speaker On/Off feature

This set was purchased after a long bias towards Sony Trinitron models. Toshibas seem to have a brighter, fresher picture than the Sony models at the same size(excluding the WEGA Sony TV's). Overall I am very happy with the set except for the fact that there wasn't an option to turn off the speakers for home theater use. I overcame this problem by taking the TV cover off, and disconnecting the speakers maually. Very easy operation BTW.
The picture never displeases me with its great color and even brightness corner to corner. Nice presets for sports or movie viewing.
Heh, anyone ever bother using the violence chip built into these?
