Harman Kardon has announced the North American release its first Blu-ray player, the BDP-1.
The BDP-1 will have “advanced audio codec support and will play back 1080/24p videos without pulldown conversion.” (Don’t know what that is, check out this audioREVIEW forum post to learn a bit more.) IT has a front access USB for JPEG and DivX playback from USB drives/gizmos.
Harman Kardon is known for Hi-Fi modern designs home theater and stereo audio components. The BDP-1 will support MP3, WMA, LPCM, Dolby Digital, Dolby TrueHD, DTS, and DTS-HD Master Audio audio formats. Nothing out of this world, but should be enough for most HT buffs.
There is also HDMI 1.3a, RCA video outputs, Ethernet jack, coaxial and optical audio outputs and analog audio output.
To hit the shelves this month, June, starting at $500 USD.
One thing we can say for sure, it sure it the best looking Blu-ray player to hit the market yet. Wonder if H/k has picked up some laid off Apple designers?……
