I can't believe the 5-star reviews this gets: The Marantz RC-2000 Mark II is garbage. It works only on line of sight. I cannot operate it while holding it because if it is pointed more the 20 or 30 degrees away from the device, it will not work well or not at all. Plus any small obstruction will get in its way.
It appears whoever said it was "the remote of the gods" dod not acually use it much. They probably just read the press releases.

Get it and you will be sorry!

Wow...the previous reviewer MUST have had a defective remote.
I can point this thing BEHIND me and it will activate my equipment 10 feet away simply by bouncing the IR signal off the wall. My kids toys were blocking the entire signal path to the preamp, but this thing was able to activate it...no problem.

This remote is great...a little bulky...but great. I have recently acquired the Pronto remote which I find even easier to operate and I love the unlimited screen customization. It's also less bulky and offers the recharge stand. Of course, it's more money and you have to jog through screens.

Both remotes are EXCELLENT in my experience at transmitting IR signals. I'm baffled as the the previous reviewer 1 star rating unless it was defective.

Marantz = 4.5 stars
Pronto = 5 stars

This is the best buy I have probably _ever_ made. Just got a new receiver and DVD player and I almost want to buy more new stuff just so I get to play with it more. It has been programmed to run a TV, two VCRs, a DVD player, CD player, and two receivers. Never missed a step.
No function has ever been non-programmable, the layout is great, and for a change, the manual was actually quite readable.

One note: I know a lot of product reviewers in magazines who say one limitation is that this remote only has 4 macro keys. This is simply not true. The remote offers "double-click" macros on the mode keys, for an effective total of 14 macros. I use the big-4 macro buttons to turn my system off and on in various modes, and then the double-press macros when I switch between each component once the system is on. It can set up everything from input/outputs to various equalizer settings, etc. Wondrous.

Unless you need ultimate layoout and macro customizations such as with the Pronto, choosing this as your Universal Remote is a no-brainer. Get it.

Strength:

It almost controlled everything

Weakness:

won't do volume on a Sony receiver
Batteries go dead every month
Oh, yeah, this $250 piece of junk just stopped working altogether!!! The display works but it will not transmit out infrared signals. I have an IR signal tester so yes, I am sure. Well, no warranty and no repairability from a company I can't even contact. What a collasal waste of money. I actually used to like it bu it ran out of memory a couple of components too soon and then quit working. I'm really pissed.

I tried to get the MKII as soon as it came out sense I heard it solved some of the problems I had with the original. Well, even though it was being advertised in magazines and on the WEB not only had the dealer not heard of it and would not take it in exchange a week after I bought it but the Marantz Rep was in the store he had not yet heard of the MKII yet either. I mean come on your the rep and you don't even know about your own product? So I got stuck with this dog of a defective remote. PISSED. I will never by anything from Marantz again. NEVER. I tell everyone I can find the same. Bad part is I thought the remote was really great in spite of the flaws and short comings until it just flat broke.

Strength:

The wife loves its one touch everything goes on button(wll thats what she calls it.

Weakness:

non yet

This remote is definetly the remote of the gods.I say this because the wife has not called me once at work with a problem like she did with all the other remotes we've had.I own the DENON 3300 and its remote is terible, the wife constantly calling me on the job and saying she can't turn on this and she can't turn on that.So I had to look at what was out there.A salesman recommended the Marantz to me and told me his wife was in the same boat as mine and she loved it.One day I was going through the Zellers club Z book and there it was only 1,200,000 points. We had enough points so we ordered it and it works like a charm. There is one draw back the wife won't let me use it,she says its hers.I hear this remote is a little pricey but if you have i wife like mine its worth it.Oh ya even my 6 year old daughter can work it.

Strength:

Works every Device (7) and plenty of memory left over.

Weakness:

A little top heavy
IR emitter a little weak from angles

This is the first remote that I have had that actually works every single funtion of every one of my Devices. The MII batteries last me about 4 months. I like how you can label the keys; although 6 fields would be better than 4. I would love to try the pronto...but for now I will continue using this puppy. I was able to put all my other remotes in a box....I dont even know where the box is.

Strength:

very intuitive, easy to program and use, operates all my equipment

Weakness:

uses batteries quickly if light and beep are used

This product live up to all the hype. I am amazed at how easy it is to use. When I was using my yamaha remote I would always have to get one of the original remotes for my equipment cause the yamaha didn't have enough buttons for all functions. Since buying the marantz I have not used any of my old remotes except when I find a function I forgot to program into it. Great product.

WOW!! what a beautiful remote. I bought it off a friend for $90. cdn. what a deal, I think he had it for about 3 mo. He then upgraded to the rc5000 which i mst agree is limited in "keys". I use the 2000 to run my Sony 27", Marantz sr5000 receiver, Marantz 5 disc cd, Sony hi-fi vcr, starchoice sat. (canadian) and my lights which are run by X10 infared remote box. The only problem I've found with this remote is that the new e2 batt from energizer don't work the best. The screen looks to be lossing lcd display even when the batt. are brand new, I replaced them with a set of basic alkaline from radio Shack and it works perfect. I can't believe the amount of functions you can do with this thing, it sure is the "god" of all remotes. If you hate picking up remotes to do all the functions of multi brand equiptment, this is a must have piece. Can some tell me if you can turn the beeping off when you push the buttons? I did not get a manual with it.

Strength:

Has learned any key of any other remote I own with ease.
Big, this is a strength, as long as it gets very difficult not to see it, and the keys are as big or bigger than the keys of the original remotes. I like its looks, looks like a big cellular phone

Weakness:

Got sometimes stuck during programming
User manual could be better

I have owned this toy for a week now, and I am very happy I purchased it. I did so because my HK-AVR7000 could not cope with my Digital Satellite receiver.

It is now the only piece of Equipment sitting on my lounge table.

I have programmed a few macros (there are 4 + 10 available) to cope with any switching on and off of a combination of units, along with the desired modes and commands with relative ease; my children and my wife were even able to use it, after 5 minutes explanations - they only use the simple macros I have programmed and the obvious keys (Vol, CH+ / -, Play, Stop, etc..)

Macro 1 - TV+Satellite+Favorite channel+Receiver+Logic 7
Macro 2 - TV+Receiver+Dolby Digital+DVD+Play

etc.. a touch of a button on one remote and you go, instead of 15 keys to punch on 3 or 4 remotes.

I still keep close at hand my former remotes, only to program keys or functions I might have forgotten, but in a week or so, they will be stored in a box for ever.

This toy is pure magic, however I had a few problems when programming it, it got stuck and I could not change modes sometimes from use to learn, and had to remove batteries to have it unstuck.

This is a minor problem, if it repeats, I might have it replaced during the guarantee, but it is not a big deal.

The user manual was quite good compared to others, however there are a few traps, easy to fall into which are not explained or badly explained.

Overall, a good looking and fit for purpose piece of equipment reasonnably priced, which deserves my highest rating.

I needed to replace my 10 remote controls with one, and in the processI looked at tons of remotes. I looked at touchscreen's and several other
models. I have the Yamaha's DSP-AP, which comes with a programmable
remote, and I've been using it for a while. But there is nothing that comes
close to RC2000 Mark 2.
From the easy of use to the tons of features, this is trully
the best remote control. It is worth every penny that I paid for it.
If you are on the market for a remote that will replace all your other
remotes, this is the one to buy. Programming it was a very pleasant experience.
And there were not tricks about it. Once it is programmed, it will take
you a day to get used to it, and after that you will not want to take
any other remote in your hands. I don't even let my fiancee touch this unit!!!
The feature that allows you to program custom labels for buttons in great.
The only drawback is that it takes only 4 letters, but you can get used to
it easily. The unit is a bit heavy, but again this is just the metter
of opinion. If you press once on the source button, it will switch to
controling that souce without switching your reciever into that mode.
But if you will press two times, it will switch both the reciever and
the remote. I think that this is a great feature.
If you are looking for a remote - shop no more and get this one.
