Strength:

The best remote under $1000

Weakness:

No color screen, only accepts IR codes.

Take a look around, Steve from Mesa, AZ. You obviously have a defective product. It happens (some parts are even assembled by humans!!!???) and the rest of the Pronto owners are sorry it happened to you, but don't you think you should wait for a new unit before you go and trash what IS … THE BEST REMOTE FOR UNDER $1000.00. Out of the box (yes without even hooking it up to a computer) this is a truly great remote. You will be able to control all of your components and eliminate all of your other remotes. You don't need the computer for this remote to be worth every penny spent.

Using your computer helps the remote truly compete with the $1000 + remotes. You can change "EVERYTHING" about the way the remote screen looks (except color but what do you expect for $300?). You can program a series of commands to one button (up to 255), you can also press one button and program the remote to issue a command and "turn" to another page on the remote (even hidden) to use a whole different set of commands. To use the computer with the remote is not the easiest thing in the world but if you are spending $300 on a remote either you have money to throw away or you are really into home theatre, and if you can set up home theatre, with some trial and error, you should be able to use the computer to make this a great remote. With a little patience you can set the Pronto up so a three year old will be able to operate the most complex home theatre systems.

To the computer… stumped? Check out www.remotecentral.com. With Remote Central, who needs customer service. Well that's not fair, but if you have a working pronto the forum on this site will more than answer everything you didn't get from the instruction manual and some things you didn't think were possible. People on this site are courteous, fast and friendly and aren't even affiliated with Phillips (Thanks, Daniel).

I am not associated with Phillips (except a consumer) or with Remote Central (only in getting help) in any way. This remote is for the Audiophile/Home Theatre Enthusiast that wants the best and is looking for a good deal. The Pronto may seem expensive on the surface but compare it's features and versatility to remotes costing a thousand bucks more and it's a bargain. Or compare it to some of the "so called" universal remotes (for about $100) and see if you don't go breaking your other remotes out of the drawer for one reason or another fairly often. With the Pronto, once programmed correctly, you can back up your remote files on the computer and virtually throw you other remotes away. The remote is software upgradeable (with a computer) or if you bought it from a reputable dealer they may be willing to do it for you.

THE SINGLE BEST REMOTE FOR UNDER $1000.00!!

Strength:

The best remote around. Looks very cool. Works very well. Strong IR emitter. Excellent backlighting. Extremely flexible user interface. Wow.

Weakness:

None.

This is the best remote control money can buy. Period. I have been through a vast array of universal remotes, and the Pronto wins out, by far.

Why is it so good?

1)It has an extremely flexible user interface. If you want this remote to look a certain way, it will. With a little time, effort, and jockeying, you can make this remote do darn near anything IR. It has unlimited device panels, fully customizable button lay-outs, completely user-defined naming, and just does everything so well. If you have the time to program it propperly, this will be the best remote you can buy. It beats out the ultra-buck Crestron panels because it is user-programmable. YOU make it exactly how you want it to be. No costly dealer programming. Nothing there that you don't want there.

2) It has a very strong IR emitter. I use an LCD projector for my video display, so it is paramount for my remote to operate this thing without me turning around. That's just a pain (read my review of the RC2000 for more on this). This remote bounces off of anything and makes my components work.
Oh yes.

3) This remote is just plain cool. It looks cool, it feels cool, the backlight is cool, and it just works so well. This will be the coolest thing in your HT. This is a great little gadget.

4) Support. There are so many files, ideas, help forums, and support groups for the Pronto that it is awe-inspiring. The enthusiasm this remote has in the consumer world is unmatched. If you need anything for this remote, you can find it. Guaranteed.

5) It is easy to use. If you program it right, anyone can run even the most complex HT system. It can be so intuitive and simple that grandma could use it with confidence. It is the best thing for remote controls since the invention of the remote control. It is awesome.

Buy this remote. DO NOT buy the Sony, DO NOT buy the Marantz, DO NOT buy the HT Master, DO NOT buy the H/K. Buy the Pronto. It is better. If you don't buy it now, you will trade in the other remote you got for it later. You will have to. As soon as you see one of these done right, you will need one. You just wait and see.

Strength:

If you have basic computer skills the sky is the limit.

Weakness:

Price

I got hooked on programming this thing.
I constantly tweak it, set up macros and every time I think
it's perfect new ideas come my head.
I just love it. I'm at the point were even my grandmother
can fire up the Home Theater with full surround by a single
key stroke.

Strength:

Eliminated all of my remotes. It's great to create my own GUI.

Weakness:

ProntoEdit is a little immature (it's still beta, anyways). Contrast on the screen is bad in lowish light. Expensive.

I just got it, and I love it! Easily replaced all of my remotes.

Similar Products Used:

Numerous OEM "Universal Remotes", which never seem to replace any other remotes.
