Strength:
Cheap, 2 digital inputs
Weakness:
Subwoofer, remote, Clock, no s-video I bought this reciever as part of the dv-590 home theater in a box. It does a decent job for what I paid for it. Subwoofer only works in Prologic mode. Speakers sound like crap without the subwoofer. I do like the fact that you can change the +/- db on the rear surround speakers. In fact to enjoy a movie in 5.1 you need to boost the rear speakers for good effect. The lack of S-video is irritating, but it does have front A/V jacks which come in handy for my camcorder. Overall its a good starter system but if you can wait and spend a little more money, I suggest to do so. I'm looking at replacing the speakers already because I'm not satisfied with the sound. If anyone can suggest a good subwoofer and center channel please email me. Similar Products Used: none |

Strength:
Good flexibility. You can do alot with this unit. The surround modes are impressive and it's very nice to be able to mess with an EQ.
Weakness:
No outlets on back. Crappy remote. I was tired of getting outbid on "sure-fire" deals on various auction sites so I said screw it and went and picked up this unit at Best Buy for $235 (open-box). I used the discount to get their 4-year no questions asked guarantee thing. Pretty good deal actually. Pretty satisfied I guess, great for music, movies, even just casual TV watching. I really wish you could use the surround speakers as just another pair of front speakers when listening to music though. I'm running B&W's with it and the sound quality is excellent, could be a little cleaner at high volume though. Why does the remote have to suck so much though? |

Strength:
Wonderful Sound. 3 Digital Inputs (2 optical, 1 coax). Dolby Digital Decoder. Great Tech Support at 1800 number.
Weakness:
Remote will not control a DVD player, and does not do much more than basic features on devices. Manual could be beefed up. This unit was included as a part of a "Home Theater in a box". It was an open box unit, normally $499, but the open box discount pushed the price down to $345. The receiver by itself runs @ $275. Similar Products Used: None. |

Strength:
High power, clear sound
Weakness:
digital controls This reciever kicks a##. It is economically priced. I am using it mainly for music. I rarely ever watch movies on it, because i only have a mono VCR. I would recommend this reciever for anyone who wants to really crank some tunes in kick-a## sound-quality. |

Weakness:
the remote is gay! a friend at work offered me this unit for a hundred bucks. i guess he got something better (insert clue here). he give it to me to hook up but he forgot to bring in the remote. so i waited to hook it up and when he give me the remote i was in shock. the damn thing is obscene! it's a fricking clipboard! i told him nevermind i'll keep the one i've got. i mean.... how good can it be with a gay remote. |

Strength:
Features
Weakness:
many features don't work I bought this a couple of years ago and was originally using it exclusively for television. As I added components, I would hook up a DVD or VCR to the unit and it would not reproduce the audio tracks. I ultimately had to run the various units through the television and output to the "Aux" input on the receiver. Similar Products Used: Sony, Yamaha |

Weakness:
not user friendly for first time buyer. Certain functions can only be done with remote. need help with the speakers, during the FM mode i only get the center and front speakers to work, same thing watching TV. However DVD works great with all speakers, sounds nice, going today to find some new speakers for the front.please email with solution for speakers function. Aiwa Staff/customer service folks only can read the manual over the phone, no help at all, buy the way, do not lose the remote, it will cost you 95 bucks to replace. and i have found out that you need it, certain functions can only be done with the remote. |

Strength:
Power, Looks, decent eq!
Weakness:
difficult learning curve for beginners, gay remote, poor speakers(if you get package*) I had just got a dvd player and a new tv(and dreamcast) around Christmas last year and wanted to get something to power my 2 cerwin vega 12' speakers. My sony was crap and didn't have surround sound. So I went online and bought the aiwa AV-DV75 for a little under $400 with the 5 speaker set up and sub. I said screw the front 2 speakers and hooked up my cerwins. After a month of reading the manual and getting familier with my reciver it started sounding good. I just moved out on my own 3 months ago and had to completely rehookup my system. I pulled out all the stops with Monster cable and new wiring. Lets just say it has never sounded better for the price. I also hooked up my computer to it through the digital input and mp3's sound awsome. DVD and cd's are great to. And even if you just use it to watch tv. The main thing is though that if you got the reciver with the speakers it will suck..you need at least 2 quality front speakers for when you want your system to be loud |

This receiver performs well for its price. It has over 600w total power and also watching a dvd movie encoded with 5.1 digital sound comes out really well with dolby digital effect. The only flaw is that it does not include dts however, for a low cost receiver it performs very well. |

I purchased the avdv-75 for 199.99 at shopping.com. For such a good price, I am happy with the quality. It has high power and a really cool display. The equalizer is also impressive. The only two flaws I see with it are 1) It has a function knob rather than buttons; 2) it does not have a elecrical socket output for other stereo components. I have to turn each one on separately. Besides these problems(more like inconveniences) I enjoy the receiver very much. I give it 5 stars for value and Performance... I also like how it says "good-bye" on the display when I turn it off. |
