NONE I install commercial A/V systems, many in corporate boardrooms, etc. Let me say Denon products are awesome. The AVR-1800 is no exception. I have one in my 20'x14' living room connected to JBL control 28 speakers (front and rear) with JBL Northridge series center channel, and a Yamaha 40w sub. I measured 110db with absolutly NO distortion and crystal clear sound. Need I say more?? Strength:
Sound in all modes. Price. Build quality. Made in Japan - unlike the 1801 and 1802. Reliable and attractive.
Weakness:
None at the used price. Very nice sounding and looking receiver! I used to own a Sony and Yamaha receiver and this one blows them away. There is enough power for my medium sized room. I use it with B&W speakers and the sound is very refined and smooth. The remote has a small LCD and works great. 5.1 playback and 5 channel stereo are awesome. Could be found used at big discounts. Dolby Digital, Power, Build Quality, Value
Weakness:
2-Channel stereo, Remote Great receiver for the money. Not much space wasted on useless features. Remote is a joke. Excellent Dolby Digital playback. Spatially correct. Strong and controlled bass if your speakers have any to begin with. Receiver has pretty flat response so there is no pronounced mid-bass. Great for movies, average for stereo. Strength:
Outstanding Sound Quality, Heavy Construction, Great Price
Weakness:
Average Manual (Not as poor as some have said) By far the most clean & crisp sound I have ever heard, I feel this receiver is a great addition to any home theater system. The power output is more than enough to create an insane amount of volume, provided you own speakers with a reasonable efficiency rating. I would recommend this receiver to anyone.. I am extremely picky with regards to sound quality & imaging, and this one does it well! Similar Products Used: DENON AVR-1200, Pioneer VSX-453/403 |

Strength:
Great sound at a reasonable price. 5 channel stereo mode. Binding post connections.
Weakness:
Remote takes some time to learn (in fact I am still learning it). Started shopping for home theater equipment. With help from this site I narrowed receiver choices to AVR2800, AVR1800 and Yamaha 795a. Was able to listen to the AVR1800 and Yamaha 795A side by side. Both sounded pretty good, but the 5 channel stereo mode on the AVR1800 was OUTSTANDING. Was not able to listen to the AVR2800(out of stock in all of Denver), but it was a bit pricey and could not justify the additional $250+ dollars. Selected the AVR1800 with DefTech ProCinema100 package(with 10" sub) and both my wife and I are happy as could be. Our family room (known as the pit) is about 18" by 15" and this receiver provides plenty of power to fill the room with sound using the DefTech speakers. It has plenty of bass and yet still sounds bright. Similar Products Used: Yamaha 795a, Denon AVR2800 |

Strength:
Sound quality, Binding posts, discrete amps, spkr level adjustments, cooling capacity
Weakness:
Manual, Remote lacks lighting, NO S-Video. I have had this receiver close to two months and enjoy it. I had alot of trouble deciding between feature rich receivers as apposed to quality sound. I'm glad I chose the Denon since most features would not have been used. The one thing I would add to this receiver is s-video but could not justify the additional $250. The 75 watts gives me plenty of power and I have a considerably large room, 15x20 with vaulted ceiling. This receiver is drives the Definitive Technology Pro Cinema 80's including the ProCenter 200 and ProSub 200. I did get a really great deal on this receiver, $430.00 from a local retailer in my area. Strength:
Sound quality, discrete amps, reasonable price
Weakness:
Awekward/ugly remote, volume display is small I've been very happy with this product ever since I bought it mid-December 1999. This is MY first home theater system, but I can really say I've never heard anything sound so good! Setting it up was a breeze too! Within an hour, I had the new receiver, speakers and DVD player setup and playing (mind you...I've only purchases two speakers so far. I'm waiting for more $$$$$ to come in before I buy the remaining speaker components). The manual was simple and straight forward...no complaints here. Weakness:
remote, price I've played with this unit for more than a month now and I'm not disappointed with the results. Good sound quality, nice looks. If you want a unit with a very good bass though, than maybe the denon isn't for you. I've listened to other receivers like the Pioneer VSX808 and a Sony and they provided deeper bassess. However, if you use a subwoofer, something that a audiolover has to do, then this is the receiver to go. |

Owners Manual Let me start this review by saying that I spent a hell of a lot of time researching receivers and speakers. I wanted a receiver that would be able to power my Boston Micro Reference Series 9000 for both theater and music. In addition, I wanted a receiver that I could grow into, in case I wanted to set up in speaker quality. Similar Products Used: Sony STR Series |
