I think it is a great unit, but less detailing sound compare to Denon.
Fantastic bass sound!(even better than Denon)

It's the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Strength:

Clean looks, good ventillation, deep power reserves.

Weakness:

Manual is incomplete and remote look dated

Love this unit. I am powering a HT with JBL Music 2 subs and sats all around. Whether playing DTS DVDs or CD's and MP3's on my Raite AVPhile 715 DVD player, this receiver has lots of power to make the JBL's sing. The 75W from Denon is more than enough and this unit proves it. Had the unit up to +2DB, which from -48DB starting is drawing on a lot of power, yet the Music 2's, rated at 120W were clear as a bell with the tight bass from the powered subs threatening to blow the corner of my house open. Really like this unit. Got it for around $430 at http://www.bestpriceaudiovideo.com. Was going to get the Onkyo TXDS-575 but it was totally sold out everywhere. Am very happy I got this.

Strength:

Great features and price. Very high quality

Weakness:

Non backlite remote

I did extensive research before this purchase and narrowed my choices down to, Onkyo 575, Yamaha 595 and the Denon. All three sound wonderful but the subpar reviews of the Onkyo scared me away. In it's defense the ones I listened to were quiet. The Yamaha is a excellent unit but I kept going back to the Denon reviews, and their excellent track record for quality.
I couldn't be more pleased with this unit. The sound is clean and powerful. The 5 channel stereo option is great. It did take a while to set up and quite frankly I'm still tweaking it. The remote is good but not great. The remote with the 2800 is a much nicer piece, but for $200.00 more I don't feel this reciever offers enough additional features.
On movies the sound quality is excellent. I have this unit paired up with Energy Take5 speakers (excellent) and a Toshiba 2109 DVD player. It supplys all the power you could ask for. The channel separation is excellent. On Private Ryan there's bombs and bullets all over the place.
I paid $435.00 and feel I will get many, many years of excellent service from this reciever.

Strength:

5 Channel Stereo, Clear Sound (not too bright, not too warm)

Weakness:

No S-video output, only 2 digital inputs, no digital inputs

After a few months of researching receivers in this price range, I decided that the Denon AVR 1800 was the way to go. The Sony had more options, but the sound fields are as good. The Yamaha sounds very similar, but the thing looks butt ugly. The Onkyo was probably my second choice but I'd just do plenty of researching on the web,and demoing in the stores before making a decision.
I am more than satisfied with my Denon receiver. The sound is so clean. I love listening to music in the 5 channel stereo mode (None of the other receivers in the same price range contain this option, only 2/3 channel stereo). The Dolby Digital/DTS decoders for movies are just as good, if not better.
My HT consists of Energy eXL 16's (Fronts), eXL 15's (Surrounds), eXL C2 Center, Klipsch KSW 12" Sub. These speakers might not be the best out there, but for the value, they can't be beat. I'd suggest looking into these speakers before making any purchases.

Strength:

Build quality, sound and power for a middle room, DTS

Weakness:

None, maybe remote ? but not really important for me.

The sound is better than the Onkyo !!! With Energy Encore speakers, I've been very impressed by results !
The 575 always presents little hiss in speakers.
You'd better listen this receiver if you are looking for...
Very good product for price, I buy it in France about 550 US dollars.

System : AVR 1800, Energy Encore, Pioneer DV 525, Pioneer CLD 925.

Strength:

Clarity, Digital processing.

Weakness:

Remote

Very good middle of the road reciever. Sounds great when used for DVD playback and has a nice front plate and a solid design. I would recommend this reciever to everyone, especially those who will spend a little more then the discount store reciever, but if yo have extra money get the Denon 3300 or higher... although its hard to go wrong with any denon product.

Strength:

Lots of features, excellent sound, and sleek design at an excellent price

Weakness:

The remote (who designed this thing anyway)

I spent several months reading this site religiously -- trying to decide between the Onkyo, the Yamaha, a Sherwood R9090, and several Denons. It was incredibly helpful to read what everyone had to say. I was also a frequent visitor to uBid but didn't find the models I wanted. I just wasn't sure what I wanted, even after visiting my local Good Guys, Cambridge Soundworks, and Circuit City to see these in person.

As I waited, I noticed that the number of positive (glowing) reviews for the 1800 were increasing faster than any other choices. I just couldn't get enough info about the Sherwood and the hissing problem scared me away from the Onkyo. So, I bit the bullet and picked up the AVR-1800 from Best Stop Digital for $448 shipped.

I couldn't be happier. I have yet to take advantage of any theatre features as I don't have DVD (my next purchase). The quality of signal with music is excellent. There is sufficent power for everything I want to do and I'm impressed with the digital reproduction from my DAT deck. It has been easy to use and I think that the lack of flashing lights make it a much more attractive part of my living room.

As mentioned, the remote isn't comfortable to hold and not at all intuitive. This is something that I'm happy to overlook given how happy I am with the unit as a whole. I spent far too long researching and trying to decide. I should have purchased the AVR-1800 on day one.

Thanks to audioreview for providing such a great (free) site.

Strength:

denon name?

Weakness:

sounds a bit bright...soundstage/imaging not deep enough

After using this unit for about a week, and believe me I wanted to like this unit, I sent it back. It was lacking power and the music just didn't sound right. I finally ended up with a Sony DB930 and wow, what a difference. Also saved a $100 and still ended up with more features. If you can get your hands on one of these, give it a try. Go read the reviews before buying the Denon...they are very close.

Again, it was a nice unit, but for the price there are many other receivers that blow it away in class and power. Had this been a $350 receiver it would have been a good buy, you are doing nothing but paying for the Denon name. It's no different than say an Onkyo or other brand.
