Power, crisp sound, onscreen menu, It''s a Denon

Not enough digital outs, not 6.1 channels, or THX certified, Remote, It''s not the 5800AVR. Maybe someday.

I''ve really enjoyed this receiver. Few flaws, but excellent sound with a very nice punch. Outstanding in 5.1 dolby digital with all dvds. Works very well with my Boston acoustics VR960L towers, VR12 center, PV1000 Subwoofer, and Micro 90X surrounds. I give it a 4.5 rating. I won''t buy anything, but Denon

As mentioned above, I originally was going to go with the Onkyo 777 as the anchor to my system. I had no complaints with the unit, but I always wanted the 3600. To make a long story short, i got a freat deal on the 3600 so I switched.
This is an awesome machine. Music and video come through loud and clear, and my bass output is more than ample. I love the useful features such as the last setting memoryn for each of your audio/video modes. When I play CD my settings are just how I left them and same for digital surround. This was something the Onkyo lacked and it was very annoying.

Don't really care for the remote

If you have no need for THX or 7.1, no need for the 5700. This purchase has been nothing but pleasure since I opened the box. Clean, powerful sound through my old faithful JBL's. Can't wait to hear them through new speakers yet to be purchased. (Leaning toward Infinity or Mirage, but comments welcome)

I have not experienced the difficulties with DTS mode mentioned by a previous reviewer, nor have I experienced the unresponsive bass issue. This unit has performed flawlessly. As with any system, setup and placement are critical, especially with bass response.

In comparison with the Yamaha's I considered (995 and 2095), I found the Denon preferable for a couple of reasons. First, the Y's are bit "gadgety" when it comes to all of the DSP modes and the ridiculous remotes. If this model from Denon has a weakness in comparison, it may be inputs. It comes down to a matter of taste in the end. For an integrated product, you can't go wrong with any of the choices I mention. But I've voted for the Denon with my wallet. As for this review....5 stars!

Very sharp looking, plenty of power, on-Screen programming, 5 channel stereo.

Remote, don't know if I am in DTS mode. The manual, and on-screen only works with S-video. More digitals inputs would also be nice.

I was looking for a quality digital reciever for both home theater and stereo. I shopped around for a couple of months and came across the 3600DTS on Ubid for $587 and couldn't pass it up. It retailed for $1600 when it came out. When it arrived I was amazed, it was huge. It also weights 45 lbs. When I hooked it up to my system,

Front - Polk RT55
Center - Polk CS400
Rear - Polk rears
Sub - Paradigm PDR12
DVD - Toshiba SD-3109
All connected by Monster Cable

it sounded really good for 2 days, until it broke. After a couple calls, I finally had it shipped to NY. Nobody wants to touch a reciever bought off the internet. I am going to think twice about buying something over the net again. I got it back in a week and still love it. Sounds great and every DVD is like the movies. Also sounds great in stereo.

Because of lack of 6 channel input and the weaknesses above I give it 4 stars. For value, I would have to give it a 6. But It only goes to 5 Stars.

It is not the 5700.

This is a superb receiver. It is built like a tank. Even though sound is my number one criteria, I hate it when companies put good parts into a cheap chasis (eg., Denon 460 CD changer). This, of course, is not the case with the 3600DTS.

To me, it was a choice between a 3300 and the 3600DTS. I bought the 3600DTS for $725 off of UBID. At the price, I find the unit to be unbeatable. I guess I decided I would rather have the 3600DTS at the same price or cheaper than the 3300. Though I will admit that the 3300 is a great unit. If I was forced to pay much more money for the 3600 then the choice would have tipped easily in favor of the 3300.

I can't believe how much better this unit sounds in AC-3 than my old HK AVR-25 MKII and Kenwood 8070 in pro-logic. I believe this difference is due to the huge advantage AC-3 has over pro-logic and the quality of the 3600.

In the sub $1000 receiver category, I would give this unit the highest rating.

I love walking into a place like good guys or dow and seeing my receiver priced at $1500 plus. I know it is ripoff, but that alone can make you feel good about the purchase.

Well I finally dumped my cheap Pioneer VSX-680! That thing was complete crap. I bought the DENON at UBID for 800$. When I lifted it to place it on my rack I nearly gave myself A hernia!! This thing weighs 45 pounds. When it plays my DVD's I now realize the full potential of Dolby Digital and DTS, room filling sound and complete seperation of sounds. AWESOME

I have had my 3600dts for a month now. At first, I had the same thoughts as the previous reviewers, but have found that an adequately powered sub makes all the difference in the world. I am using the 15" JBL sub (300+ watts). With the sub, the 'thinness' referred to by the other raters translates to excellent clarity in the upper range. My only recommendations for the vendor are for more optical inputs (only one is provided) and a more comprehensive manual.

Sent my Yamaha 795 back to Uncle's because it had a problem with the subwoofer output. In exchange I got the Denon 3600DTS expecting a better unit because of its higher price, better amps, and 5-channel stereo. While the Denon MAY have more detail in Pro-Logic mode (I did not compare them side by side) and it DOES sound better on music on my revealing NHT speakers, it bored me. On Home Theater the Yamaha sounds more dynamic, clearer, and more natural. In comparison the Denon is uninspiring. I made the same observation of the Denon AVR-3200 in two separate stores, but I was hoping the 3600DTS would be better. Also, the Yamaha has that 6-channel input and it has better bass management. My NHT rears only go down to about 53hz but I still prefer them set to "large." Apparently the Denon has an 80 hz crossover for the rears which I found to be annoying as heck. also, if you set your front speakers to small and you use the subwoofer output, you cannot set the center speaker to "large" which is also annoying. The 5-channel stereo mode did not impress me, and while the Denon has more musical amps than the Yamaha (which are somewhat bright), I would still want to upgrade the amps with a Harmon Kardon PA-5800 ($399 at J&R!) or ATI or Parasound or whatever. So, why not buy the cheaper Yamaha and upgrade ITS amps? Thank god I was able to send the Denon back and Uncle's is sending me a new Yamaha!
