Damn what a great product, I give my back a rest at the moment, because it is a heavy thing. The sound is very clear and tight.

This receiver can handle many different sound types for example THX, DD, DTS, THX EX, DD EX, DTS ES.

I will give a more detaled review in about 2 months from now.

Strength:

Vivid, dynamic, tonal contrast, with warmth and armonics richness.

Weakness:

The remote control, but exist the ATKIS!!!

this wonderful "stuff", is the best in this price range and below and in some cases for highers, only the Marantz SR-14EX ($3,000), THE B&K AVR-307($3100) and the DENON AVR-5800 ($3,100) to offer especifics improvements in some areas but the price is of the twice as much, for the most of the people this "good digital" is perfect, but if you are a perfectionist pure audiophile and with a FAT accont bank, you can buy a expensive dream system, and only to obtain 2-3% more music or overall performance, but 600% more money, with a KRELL, ADA (proccesors only) and pay $4,000 for this and other $4,000 for the amplifier like Cinenova Grande of Earthquake, but the you will understand that you pay too much money, for 2-3% more, and you are not even 10% more happy of what you are were with the Denon 4800, and only you paid 1,380, with THX ULTRA POST-PROCCESING EX, AND
DTS ES, this receiver is CELESTIAL!!!!!!!

Strength:

Everything and anything. Lots of power, transparency, clarity, setup and options.

Weakness:

The blasted remote. While it isn't bad, for this type of receiver, something less confusing and more ergonomically appealing would have been nice.

I bought this unit from crazyeddies.com. Arrived in perfect condition. Tried to lift it up, almost got a hernia. The receiver is _heavy_ and beefy. You can almost feel the transformers pull down on your intestines as you lift. Be careful. The look is solid and attractive, minus the one trillion digital displays and obscene front plates other low end japanese receivers are famous for. I use this receiver with two Acoustat electrostatic Spectra II speakers, a b&w cc3 center channel, 2 b&w 302's as my rear surround and a velodyne ct-150 as my subwoofer. Setup is a breeze and there are plenty of inputs and outputs for just about any digital format you might like. Since I don't have extra speakers, haven't done the THX thing just yet (i.e. im broke).

Anyways, I use this in conjunction with a toshiba sd-4205 dvd player and while I am not some multi-million dollar audiophile, can flat out say, if you can find me a better receiver for this price, I would be totally shocked. I demo'
d Marantz, Onkyo, Integra (higher end onkyo's), sony, yamaha etc etc. No match. This receiver is like a body builder on anabolic steroids. It is powerful, muscular and doesn't even heat up at full tilt on movies running in dts. My ears are deaf now but thats another story :). Another solid point is (and I use good 12 guage speaker cable and good interconnects), there is zero hiss out of my speakers. Read: nada hiss. When there is sound, there is sound and thats it. The bass rocks (helps to have a good subwoofer of course).

A case in point is my electrostats. With my 150 watt per channel carver, these speakers sounded like they had emphysema. The same pair of speakers (which are now 9 yrs old) are solid, crisp and wonderful with the denon. Something to do with a powerful amp driving inefficient speakers.

All in all, this receiver rocks. A solid buy. I am sure its got its weaknesses, and if there are any, I will post them, but for now I made the best purchase available (esp for the price).

I'm no audiophile and I don't care to be but I am happier than heck with my setup and hope you make a wise decision in your choice to purchase.

Good luck!

Strength:

Features, build quality, dynamics, sound

Weakness:

none

I replaced my Denon AVC 3030 (in fact I'm using it for the back surrounds now) with the AVR 4800. The sound quality is like night and day. I feel like I have new speakers now. The bass from my subwoofer is much more powerful and the dynamics from the main speakers are exceptional. I don't know if it is because I went from just having Dolby Pro Logic to Dolby Digital and DTS, but movies just seem to have come alive. I would highly recommned this receiver to anyone looking to set up a high quality surround system without breaking the bank.

My set up:
AVR 4800
Snell HHC 500 Center Channel
Snell KIIv Main Speakers
Polk F/X 500 Surround Speakers
M&K 1B Back Surround speakers
M&K 80 Subwoofer
Technics 110 DVD Player
Pioneer Elite Pro 98 Rear Projection TV
Denon AVC 3030 (rear amp)
