Strength:

Sound purity is something else. Using Digital Direct on mode - the music simply

Weakness:

None. maybe the way the manual is written but you should be able to configure and as time goes on, discover for yourself that this is the best AV receiver available.

Great receiver. Coupled with Mirage Omnipolar OM-5s Left and Right Front Channels and a OM-C2 center channel and BPS210 this setup rocks. highly recommended! I have heard others like Pioneer elite and B&W speakers, this setup just exceeds the others. have fun in whatever you choose.

Strength:

Power, many features and connections, sounds fantastic.

Weakness:

Complexity, price

I just bought the 5803 and although its probably the best receiver I have ever heard, its difficult to operate and almost threw it out the window... LOL I do agree the manuals suck, and I've written to tech support with no avail..! I'm still trying to find out how to upload settings of my remote to my computer using USB. One thing is for sure, its got clear kick ass power..!

Strength:

Sound, Power, Features, Up Conversion Video, THX 2, on and on and on.........

Weakness:

Remote, hard to hold and use Big and Heavy and Deep

Simply put this is the best receiver I've ever encountered. Best sounding, best power, best features, best connectivity, best 2 channel sound, period.............. Even professional reviewers are comparing the 5803 to high end separates! Combine the 5803 with the DVD-9000 and it just doesn't get any better, even with high end separates like the Lexicon MC-12..... Really? REALLY............

Strength:

Great sound, heavy good looks. Decent remote.

Weakness:

Expensive, but separates would cost even more for marginal gain in sound quality.

Bought this receiver after returning 2 Sunfire Ultimate Receivers (terribly high noise floor (you could hear it from 10 feet away), otherwise perfect.) and have been quite happy. Wanted to go separates, but couldnt afford it without going used/internet which I didnt want to do. Overall, very good performance. Too many bells and whistles, but once its all set up, you dont miss them. Remote is fine. It was already preprogrammed to working everything I have. TV/DVD/CD and even the dimmer switch for my lights!

Strength:

Power, sound and connectivity.

Weakness:

Remote, users manual and steep price.

Outstanding sound, power reserves, and connectivity options. Remote and users manual suck. Although I was able to program the remote to control all my equipment it is slow and difficult to see and use. The grammer and syntax in the users manual is very poor making it necessary to do much interpratation.

Strength:

Performance is everything the reviewers claim it to be. Build quality looks good from outside the case.

Weakness:

The RC8000 remote is not user friendly compaired to a Pronto remote. In my case, this $3000.00 plus receiver and remote did not outlast the warranty.

Ipurchased the Denon 5800 online when it first hit the market. It was great for the first year, everything the reviewers claimed it to be. After 13 monthes of enjoyment, functions started to go out. The volume control, input selector, and function control knobs on the receiver no longer worked. The same functions could still be controlled from the remote so I could still use it. Well, after 24 monthes of use, the wonderful remote has died, so now I have a 61 pound door stop. Denon will not warranty its products unless purchased from an authorized dealer. Regretfully, I was not aware of this when making the purchase two years ago. They did not have this information posted on their website at that time. I would like to know how many others have had the same problem, if you have please send email. Thinking of starting a class action lawsuit. For all that have purchased from authorised dealers, I wish you the best and hope your 5800's last longer than mine did. It costs aprox. $100.00 to ship everytime it breaks.

Strength:

all in one box... thx ultra2 certified

Weakness:

lots of power, but soundstage is very compressed.... didn't like the remote

Pretty decent all in one box, too many bells and whistles that I didn't use, also found the lcd remote a pain to use ( give me button with a tactile feel ) each to there own though. I decided to go to seprates instead of the all in one box. IMHO I preferred the increase in soundstage offered by seperates, however if sound quality is not highest on your priority list and like having all your toys together, this realy is a great receiver( just not for me ). current kit: rotel RSP-1066 pre/pro 7.1 rotel RMB-1075 5x120 rotel RB-1080 2x200 Klipsch rf-7 front, rf-5 back, rc-7 center, rs-3 rear surrounds hsu vtf-2 and vtf3 subwoofers hitachi hd projection tv dish 6000 hd sat/dbs jvc svhs kenwood DV-5900M 400+ dvd changer Kimber hero's, digital x, and tonik interconnects kimber bi-wire 8tc/4tc shotgun speaker wires

Strength:

Clean power. Typical Denon DSP.

Weakness:

Remote sucks. Can hardly see it after countless calibrations. At least the volume control works.

My second Denon AV piece. Great DSP. Incredible reserves into very thirsty Snells X 7. Understand, my ears have made it through 7 WHO concerts and I find it difficult to handle the DB's at reference levels. Very clean, very powerful, great in stereo audio and AV applications.

Strength:

all current surround modes - supposedly upgradable platform

Weakness:

remote

Great unit bar none. I have had $14K processors in my room before, and I think this Denon unit gives you 90% of the "top dogs." I was concerned that the volume I listen to stuff was beginning to drive the unit too hard, as the sound sounded muffled during movies. Well, low and behold, it was the noice of my projector. Yeah, my projector was so loud that I thought a portion of the noice and "muffled" sound was from the Denon. I turned off the projector and listened to a movie on the system with the plasma. WOW, the sound is great. crystal clear, I'm very suprised! I was thinking of selling it do to the "muffled sound" but now that I know it's the projector - then I'll just build a $100 hushbox and be all set. Take into consideration room size, as this unit easily powers my room. Though it goes to 00 dB, I listen to movies at -23dB, which is roughly 75 dB, so it has lots more juice for my room size (11 x 20 x 10). This unit also has alot of great options. It can save individual surround parameters - so your surround speaker volume level can be saved differently per input, ie DBS surround volume can be at +10dB, and on DVD where the surrounds usually are more pronounced, have the surround speakers set to+5dB. It will also save the last surround mode per input. So, if on DBS using Wide Screen, it will switch modes to Wide Screen next time you hit the DBS input. Great unit. Given I've had Theta's, MC-12's, etc and units costing much more, I couldn't be happier. Runs super quite, easy for the wife to use, and a plethora of surround parameters to keep the tinkerer happy... I'm an audiophile for HT, not 2 channel.
