great sound when it works

the AVR5803 amplifier and is not currently fully compatable with the Denon DVR-9000 DVD player as advertised

I bought the Denon AVR-5803 amplifier and the Denon DVR-9000 DVD player because of the advertised compatability and ease of use with the aktis remote which is supplied. The current remote supplied does not work the DVD player even with the "learning function". The remote comes with an earlier program which is not fully compatible with newly released Denon-9000 DVD player. There is on the internet a product support line an updated program for the remote. This download does not work. Tech support tried to help, but the advice of not using a computer with Windows XP and using an earlier version did not work either following the directions that come with Atkis download. Unfortunately, the amplifier is too complicated to use by the front panel in a darkened theater room.I have spent hours trying to correct the amplifier from suddenly mal-functioning. I do not recommend buying the DVR-9000 DVD player or the AVR-5803 until they supply the updated remote without bugs on a new purchase.

Because AVR 5802 is running short of stock, Sunrise gave me a AVR 3802 before 5802 came in. I enjoyed the great sound quality and ease of use of the remote control of 3802. However, when the 5802 was installed in my cabinet, 3802 is no longer awsome to me. The 5802 prevails in all fields of AV quality. THX ultra 2 with cinema and music modes, THX surround EX, DTS discrete, DTS 96/24, Dolby EX, Dolby prologic II, and most astounding part, THX EX + DTS (a superb decoding when seeing a DVD movie. The power amp. part is 170 W in each chanel (into 8 ohms). This baby provides 2 set of 8.1 external in inputs for DVD audio and SACD (analog input). And it can receive digital input of DVD-audio or SACD from its Denon-link (only with Denon''s DVD A1). Besides, it provides Bass management for analog input from DVD-audio and SACD. The 5802 can harbor 2 pairs of surround speakers, which can serve as A- dipole surround for cinema mode, and B-full range surround for DVD-audio and SACD. And you can use both A and B pairs as surround speakers if you want. As a bonus, the remote control can support all of my other equipments and I can control all of them with one remote. Thank God.
