Weakness:

Remote room set up difficult when used in conjunction with another HK Amp

Thank you to every one that has commented on this unit and helped me to make the purchase. I have had the unit for approx 6 months now and i am completely satisfied. I am running a pair of JBL 4412 studio monitors at the front, a pair of older studio monitors 4401 as rears and i was using a pair of 4401's as a center speaker, i only need a little sub in the unit so i opted for the jbl sub 6. Problem is i have a new cabinet now and the speakers need to be close to my TV (grundig 100hz 84cm). Thus i need a new center speaker with shielding. I am about to purchase either a jbl lsr28p or the Tik series center speaker. Anyway about the Amp, the studio monitors need a bit of a kick to perform nicely and the avr with 75 amps adequately does the job even at lower volume levels. I am particularly happy with the stereo sound, it really is amazing. Many of my friends listen to cd's in a surround mode, however i rarely use these extra modes exept for background, logic 7m. The logic 7c is great, i find it best for pro logic vcr's but i do not use the other modes such as theater etc except if it was a very bad recording that i was listening to. The dvd digital sound is amazing and the amp has enough power to fill a large room. I rate the surround sound every bit as good as yamaha's a1, the yamaha has too many different modes that you dont use anyway. Dont get me wrong though the yamaha is a brilliant amp, i dont think the straight stereo sound is as good as the avr7000 though.

I set the multi room up and it is a bit of a pain. I have another hk amp in the other room and a sensor that goes back to the avr7000. problem is, the one remote controls the 2 amps simultaneously. I cant control 1 and not the other.

Anyway I love this amp and i am very happy, my friends are amazed!

If something is really wrong with this receiver, I can not find it.
Maybe bass is not great with logic 7, but it is a better
Alternative than pro logic.
The sound may not be precise like denon, but it is much warmer and rich than the denon and in fact any other receivers at this price range.
The remote is not bad (only after replacing the batteries), and the OSD is somewhat confusing at the beginning.
Sure there are some small annoying things with it, but the sound.....

I posted a note a few back and promised I would update you on my purchase of a factory refurb unit. I am happy to say that I am extremely satisfied with this unit. There is nothing at all wrong with it as mentioned in some previous posts. The sound is simply incredible. Even my wife, who is at the other end of the scale from being an audiophile, noticed a huge difference. As another post stated, "my cd collection came alive after installing this unit." One note however is that I have also purchased a subwoofer to go with it, AR ARS500 (as in 500 watts, delivered by Carver's Surefire technology). I can't be sure about the bass response without the subwoofer. Somebody mentioned that they thought the AVR was cutting out below 80hz or whatever the crossover setting is regardless of the speakers being set to large or small. Not sure. However, I must say that this subwoofer is an important component of the new sound I am hearing and it is very exciting. I would say you should get a very good sub to go with this unit and recommend that you listen to the AR, which I purchased at AOKNet Inc for $467.
For those of you who sent me email this is my response. I am exceedingly pleased with the AVR7000. It is quite likely the best product of its type for the money.

The AVR7000 sounds superb with both music and movies. I have been especially impressed with the 7000's reproduction of jazz and classical music. I recommed this product for anyone looking for a $1000 AV receiver that sounds like a $2000+ system. Incredible value and awesome sound have made me a very happy consumer. Check out The Perfect Vision (1-01) for a great review.

Well it finally arrived. What a wonderful day to sit and monkey with this thing, it's still snowing and there's already about 5 to 6 on the ground. I'm hoping set-up won't be difficult. But first, sorry for the three posts, I have no idea what I did to cause the post to appear three times. Again, sorry!

The manufacture date is Jan 2001, that is a great relief. Apparently there aren't that many in H/K's pipeline, or, they called a great deal of them back before they reached the warehouses and vendors.

No DOA type stuff after getting everything hooked up. I immediately went to DTV and start changing stations to see if I would get the pops a lot of folks have been mentioning. None. I also ran quickly through input sources (DVD, DTV, TV & FM) to see if I got any other types of strange noises. None there either. I figured that quick test might be a indicator as to whether some of theproblems had actually been addressed.

A lot of you are right though, the bass seems to dissapear when you switch to Logic 7, and I've noticed that there is only one VMax setting (the AVR510 has far and near options for VMax). Something else I've noticed, and I hope I'm missing something but, I can't seem to be able to separate LFE from the other bass stuff (the sub is either "yes" or "no", no "LFE" or "LFE+bass" option). Again, the AVR510 had that option.

I'll post more in about a weeks time. Right now I just want to go play somemore.

I just ordered this unit from HK ONLINE as a factory refurb. I did this precisely because the tech support guy told me that all the updates were put into the -z units (refurb) and I figured the refurbs got a real once-over that maybe the new units didn't get. I should be getting it this week and I will update this site after using it a bit. BTW, I also ordered an AR ARS500 subwoofer to go with this bad baby. I am looking forward to feeling its 18hz tones!

This is not a review, but a heads-up for perspective buyers and recent owners with their return policies still before them. I have yet to be receive my unit which I purchased Friday. I understand that this is outide the guidelines, but I think important to those in here.

After two phones conversations and several e-mails from
Joe Chinnici and others at H/K's web support, I was informed that major fixes were made to the AVR7k that address many if not all of the problems posted here in this thread that were not fixed earlier earlier production shifts. It was also implied that since the AVR7k is actually a member of the older H/K line (300, 500, etc.), which had a lot of problems, a re-design has been made to update the AVR7k and bring it in-line and up-to-date with their current line of x10 products (110, 210, 310 & 510), which had fewer problems if any. This new product will be labeled "AVR7500". Joe suggested that it is a hybrid between a 510 and a 7000, and is planned to be release along with the AVR8000.

Now here's the good stuff. I've also learned that the major fixes to the AVR7k lives in all 7000's manufactured after (not in) November 2000, and get this, as well as in all z products (factory refurbished) purchased from H/K directly (their on-line store). They say they can't make such a claim for refurbished units purchased elsewhere. I kinda believe this because only a few weeks ago, there were no refurbished 7k's on their site, now there's scores of them. I asked if different parts were being used to assemble the 7k's manuafactured after 11/00, and their response was "YES". I do not know what these parts are or what parts were replaced with,... didn't go that deep. The word "resistor" came up, as did "chip set". What chip or resistor I do not know. But I will say this, it sounded major to me.

Lastly, it was suggested that the run on the 7k will not last much longer as it will be replaced by the AVR7500 and the AVR8000. From what I gathered, the difference between the two will basically be THX, a 7.1/6.1 front-end, and Dolby ProLogic II for the AVR8000; and 5 channel stereo, ,mp3 decoding, digital in/outs up front, and an enhanced OSD for the AVR7500.

For you folks who recently purchased a 7k, I strongly recommend that you lift up its skirt and take a peek up its rear to check out the manufacture date. If it's before 11/00, take it back and exchange it for one assembled after that date,... even if you aren't experiencing any problems... YET! For those of you who are about to purchase one, take it out of the box and check the date before running out of the store. I purchased mine on-line and the folks at MacMall said they would instruct their warehouse to check the date before shipping. Yeah, right. I also aksed that if the date was not to my liking could I return it. "Yup, you got 30 days". If you buy on-line, I hope your vendor will do the same.

I hope this helps. But still, all of the above are words I got. Those of you who read this should double check behind me and confirm. If you find more (or less) post it!

Eric

Well it finally happened. The 7000 blew up. It took my rumpus room with it. My hunting trophies and collection of prayer books from various churchs and synagogues went up in smoke. Without my guns I'm inconsolable. I think I'll end it all. Never buy HK unless your an attorney who can sue their ass.
