Strength:
Usual powerful clean sound from HK. Plenty of digital inputs and surround processor is exceptional.
Weakness:
Long 20" unit. Needs good ventilation for heat output, but all HK amps do. Made in China vs. in Japan like my old system. I put off getting into home theater until the technology improved. Then my Carver 380t reference tube-amp CD player bit it. I then decided to get out of my bachelor 5 foot stack of HK separates as there wasn't any decent receivers 10-15 years ago. Being married and on a budget I pick up the HK AVR7000 and DVD 5, along with new Wharfedale MDM-7s and Diamond 7.1s, all at uBid. I went on past name brand quality, other reviews and took the chance. Strength:
Good sound.
Weakness:
Heavy, craftmanship. I enjoy the sound it delivers very much. Very clean mid-range and high-range. I just have some personal experience with this model that I want to share with everyone. Similar Products Used: AVR 300 |

Strength:
good sound, switching capability
Weakness:
light buzz when changing DirectTV channels using optical input, DSP mode switching I don't remember exactly when I got the 7000. It was around a year ago -- it was one of the first my store could get its hands on. All in all I've had very good luck with it. No real problems -- but one design flaw. It does buzz slightly when I change channels on my DirectTV receiver when I use the optical input, but I attribute this to just reacquiring lock on the bitstream. Very minor. sounds to me like the people diss'ing this receiver probably could not even afford to purchase HK's least expensive, refurbished bottom of the line 2 channel stereo receiver. it's amazing that all these punks must be getting bored with the chat rooms. i suggest you go back to flipping your greasy little burgrs down at mcdonalds and quit talking smack about a piece of equipment that is well out of your economic grasp.
Weakness:
none with any hk product I OWN. WILL SUBMIT UPON PURCHASE IN 2-3 WEEKS Similar Products Used: HK AVR 35 |

Strength:
Nice build easy to use PLENTY OF POWER!! Great sound Nice looks
Weakness:
Negative reviews, by reviewers that have not had hands on expereince with this product. This is my third HK reciever that I have owned over the years, I have never run into the reliability issue that some reviewers mention. It took me 15 minutes to set this reciever up! It´s easy and intuitive to use. The remote control is great and it manages all of my equiptment. One reviewer mentions that this reciever is a peice of crap! Whenever he puts the receiver into Theatre mode it seems to turn off?? Well maybe you are hitting the SLEEP button which is one millimeter from the Surround button! Anyway dont let stupid reviews discard you from purchasing this unit. Similar Products Used: HK avr80THX Great receiver!!!!!! |

Strength:
Very clean sound. On screen menu is much easier to use than past models
Weakness:
Too big for the average entertainment system. Sounds better than the AVR 65. Very easy to use. I have had a problem with the volume changing on it's own for some reason, and I have heard of other people having the same problelm. I would suggest it to anybody, I am very happy with it. Similar Products Used: I had the Harmon Kardon AVR 65 last year and needed the upgrade. |

Power??? In summary I am new to the audio game. I have recently start investing in higher quality audio equipment and settled for the AVR7000. My previous unit was a lower end Yamaha at about 70 W per channel. When I first got my new speakers (Wharfedale MFM7's) I was disappoineted with their performance. I would crank up the output on the Yamaha and they distort to no end. When I got the AVR7000, I was surprised that there was no distortion at all. I can crank up the AVR7000 to it's limit and it provides flawless (to my untrained ear) sound. I have to tell you. I was listening to my "Independence Day" DVD the other day and it broke a glass. I had to crank it up to test me new stuff. It made a mess with the milk but it was cool!!!! I was a rockin and a rollin. I am now confused though. It seems that the Yamaha, rated lower in power, would drive more sound through the speakers even though it was distorted all over the place. On the other hand, the AVR7000 performs flawlessly throughout the entire range. IS my unit broken??? Should I be getting more power from it??? Or am I just confused and this is the Audio Game. I can crank up the AVR but it now leaves me wanting more. Anyway, I look forward to response. I can't wait to get my new Klipsch RP5's and crank those bad boys up. Look out neighbors!!! I am rating 4's because of my lack of knowledge. I will revise if I find out I am wrong. Similar Products Used: Yamaha |

Strength:
Powerful, ease to use, big in size & high current
Weakness:
No DTS-ES (7.1) My HK AVR7000 is the replacement of Denon AVR3801, where I found the denon doesn¡¯t produce warm music performance as what I¡¯m expected. So far I¡¯m very satisfy with the HK performance, especially on music. Besides, it is power enough to handle my power hungry 4ohm speakers. Similar Products Used: AVR3801 |

slight hiss at higher levels. Is this due to: limitations in the recording,Limitations in my cheap cd/dvd, OR the amp itself....Please Help? Great unit.Loads of power with very nice sound and positioning of music. My cd's and dvds came alive too.I purchased a hk unit ~20 years ago. That unit delivered and so does this one.Technology is wonderful isn't it?.I bought a upper-line yamaha 7 years ago and returned it cuz' i liked my 20 year old HK sound better!! Logic7M is great for walking about my large room.Logic7C is superior to dolby pro.Stereo sound is outrageous.HDCD is beautiful.(more bits of information processed equals superior sound) Only problem is finding recordings.See above weakness and please email me or respond if anyone knows the answer ie audiophiles. After receiving a couple of slighly limited avr500's (refurbished) I negotiated them down to 750 AND a brand new unit.Onecall.com sells refurbished units for CHEAPER than the HK online site.I used this as an argument too since THEIR the Manufacturer.$750 + Brand NEW unit + Outstanding unit = Happy ME (I got lucky) Similar Products Used: 20 year old HK stereo reciever.
