Strength:
Good power. Nice amps. Nice features. Good surround sound for movies.
Weakness:
IT IS POSSESSED!!! All around nice receiver. Kind of heavy. I don't know if anybody else has had this problem. Mine is possessed by the spirit of once living but now dead souls. I know this sounds funny. I didn't believe it at first untill I saw it with my own eyes. I was listening to an Elvis CD and suddenly smoke came out of the receiver. The lights flashed on and off in my basement. Fog was everywhere. The spirit of Elvis floated out of the HK. It began to yell at me, "Why have you released me from my eternal slumber, puny mortal?" I was so scared. Elvis hit me across the cheek, tied me up, and made me listen to him sing "Don't step on my blue suede shoes" for 10 hours straight. Similar Products Used: Sony, Yamaha, and Denon |

Strength:
Lots of features, great sound, looks fine
Weakness:
A little deep, takes a second to lock onto a new digital source, remote seems a bit flakey I love the features and the sound output of this receiver for some medium sized speakers in an apartment. Sound is warm, accurate and has a great dynamic range. The unit handles pretty much anything I dish out to it. Lots of digital inputs (and other inputs), great DAC and power to spare for most applications. I don't use most of the "fancy" features. I don't think I'd replace it with anything else though. I do wish the remote worked with better range and it locked onto digital signals faster but when I'm actually using it, rather than fiddling with it, I couldn't be happier. Strength:
Excellent sound, best heard to date. ACCURATE rated power 110 Watts/Channel, very reliable, beautiful, heavy duty strength, pro grade.
Weakness:
The remote, but who cares, they spend their budget on sound, where it counts. Being an audiophile who owns a home theater shop, and being in the business for over 7 years, with prior experience. I would like to clear something up. No I am not an online merchant trying to sell the item. Let me clear it up for the people that are complete idiots who think this product stinks. If george lucas uses the same damn thing, would that make it suck? Come on, you people running these recievers off batteries? Crank the baby up, don't use it as a seat. It can play better than recievers TWICE or more than their prices. BMW's don't use Harman Kardon speakers and source units for the hell of it, because they are TOP of the line. So get some good speakers to listen to the reciever on, like som Acoustic Research AR1s, or some NHT speakers, or even get some Excailber speakers. Quit whining cause your mom was too cheap to buy you the AVR-700, and got you a Sony reciever and pasted the Harman Kardon logo on it. Thats all I have to say. I recommend this reciever to ANYONE who wants the best sound, and the highest quality. And for home theaters its a must, except wait for the AVR-8000 model to come out which features THX-ES, 6.1/7.1 DTS ES, and THX Ultra, and Dolby Digital, and DTS standard, and Dolby Digital II. The AVR-7000 is top of the line, feel free to e-mail me with comments anyone may have. :) Similar Products Used: All kinds |

Strength:
Power, remote functionality
Weakness:
remote design, harsh sound Maybe there's something wrong with the unit I got (got a refurbished one). Anyway, the sound is way too bright and harsh. The bass is weak. There is virtually no warmth in the music. Similar Products Used: Aiwa 75, JVC 9000, Pioneer 709 |

Strength:
style, ease of use, multiple configurations, better quality remote
Weakness:
very heavy (draw back to in having quality parts) initially skeptical considering the flops that plagued the previous line. on faith and a little research, i ordered the avr 7000 hoping it would perform to its billing. Similar Products Used: HK AVR40, ONKYO 777 |

Heavy! Had to wait forever for this jewel, but, my local dealer finally got them in. I unpacked it and was more impressed with the styling than in the product literature. Very clean and easy to use fron panel. Similar Products Used: Denon AVR5700 |

Strength:
Superb HT/Music playback, asthetics, ease of use, ample power
Weakness:
Its a heavy SOB! :) This receiver is one of the best surround sound receivers I have ever heard/owned. I went down to my local CC to audition it against the highly praised Onkyo DS777. To my surprise it quite simply blew it away. Sure there is a price difference but the different in HT playback to my ears was just incredible. I mostly compared these for HT but the music of the Harman was so llve I didn't want to stop listening. Setup of the unit was extremely easy. In person this unit is very asthetically pleasing. the only thing I would've changed was the front panel buttons. I would've liked them to be some sort of metal and change of color. All in all it adds a nice touch to my rack. I have yet to find one problem with the unit, no hiss, humm, distortion of any kind. It plays louder than loud with no strain in vocals or instrumentation. It is a rock solid peice wheighing in at 49lbs! I am using the AT 350THX speaker system via audioquest type 4+ cable. I am truly at the movies! Sub output might be a tad on the low side... other than that, nothing I've found so far First of all, let me make a quick comment on the review below talking about the size of the power supply. You mentioned the size of the capacitors. The capacitors do not provide power, but store power. 22,000 uF caps aren't huge, but it's got a fairly large power supply. Personally, my speakers are rated with an 8 ohm nominal rating, far above 3.2 ohms. There aren't a ton of speakers with a 4 ohm nominal rating, much less 3.2. The only reason I make these comments is because 1.) It doesn't affect me with 8 ohm speakers. Most of the time my speakers are operating above 4 ohms. 2.) Specs are great, but the music it reproduces is really what I consider important. Sure, I love to read that my new 10,000 watt Crown amp can drive a large set of pliars, but that doesn't tell me much about how it sounds. 3.) The H/K is at a fairly unique price point for features and sound quality offered. Marantz makes great stuff, I'm not saying they don't. What I am saying is that the H/K offers a pretty great balance between price and quality. Similar Products Used: Kenwood 2080, Marantz 780 (with MA-500 monoblock amps) |

Strength:
Pwoerful, sleek, inputs, and outputs
Weakness:
It's Size...I won't hold it against it, Low sub-output This reciever is a Monster, I upgraded from a AVR65 to this one and I am tickled Pink. It compliments my Klipsh Fronts and Center channel with accurate and clean sound at any range. My only problem with it is that it doesn't seem to have the sub-output that the AVR65 had, I had to adjust the levels. Similar Products Used: Hk AVR65, Sony STRDE935, Kenwood 2080 |
