Strength:

bags of power, great dac's for CD and DVD replay, HDCD, exellent speaker control, easy to set up and use, backlit remote,

Weakness:

surround speakers make a little poping sound when the reciever goes in to Ac-3 or DTS mode, it has the worst manual ever it is copletely useless, no 7,1 input, no laserdisk RF input, no lp input, a bit to deep )so deep that it has to stand on the top shelf of my audio magic ms rack)

The first couple of weeks I wasn't to happy with my new harman, I thought it sounded a bit closed in and and slow, not at all like the one I heard in the store before I bought it. But then one day as I was whatching my new U-571 DVD in DTS the Amp sudenly awoke from it's slumper and the following week it just started sounding better and better, it just needed to be broken in. Now it sounds just like I wanted it to sound when I bought it.

Strength:

Nice Clean Sound, Very Powerful

Weakness:

I think the subwoofer output needs some work

This receiver is available for 1000 bucks . Found it using pricescan.com
I audition the Denon 5700, marantz avr7000 and yamaha rxv995 and the yamaha rxv2095 and found that the Denon Sounds awesome.. The sound was the best. The Hk avr7000 sound is less bright than the rxv995. It had the same detail as the yam 2095 and it seemed to sound better than the marantz avr7000. seems to me that the HK sounded more powerful than the marantz..
The yam 2095 definitely has more toys than the hk or the marantz. wish HK had 5 channel stereo..
It was a toss up for me between the yam 2095 and the HK 7000. I got the HK 7000 cause I thought 1000 bucks was a great bargain.. No regrets. Nice sound, powerfull... at 1000 bucks, it was a steal...

Strength:

THE SOUND - FANTASTIC. Quiet, connections galore, beautiful.

Weakness:

None that I've seen really - but I'm always a proponent of bigger, better quality binding posts. The manual - is part cut and past with the rest of receiver line and so is a little miseleading/confusing at times. A sep. power cord would be nice, but no biggy.

The 7000 has only been in my home for a day now, but I've never heard a receiver sound this good right out of the box. MY GOODNESS, it's spacious. As those who believe I'm out to get Marantz know from my less than gushing review of the SR-19 I tried out in my home, I was very disappointed in that unit's muddy sound, and the treble hiss it put out when I did my "silly" test of listening for sound right next to the speakers. I had some exposure to the little brother of the 7000, the 500 and had liked its sound (and silence) much more than the SR-19, so that's what lead me to the 7000. I'm very pleased with what I'm hearing thus far. The nice amp of the AVR 7000 is smooth and full to listen to and its well insulated - this with a good built throughout has left this unit MUCH quieter than the Marantz (it may be a silly test I have, but if the HK can do much better on it, it says a lot to me - and gives me a much quieter noise floor on delicate music).
I read one professional review where the writer didn't like how the H/K 7000 looked. I have a feeling that the same writer would defend his big bean bag chairs left over from college and the Chuck Norris poster above his fire place as "tasteful". This thing is certainly big, but has a beautiful appearence. The black glass and brushed aluminum accents are very nice together. The spare button / 1 big knob look is derived from those esoteric pieces that are so nice to look at; simplicity. My fiance walked in and the first thing she said was, "that's pretty."
I've yet to really spend time fine tuning the unit, but for two channel stereo, I don't think there's anything really to do. Also - the tuner in this thing is very good - also better than what I was able to get out the Marantz, which is supposed to have a great tuner. I'm getting all sorts of stations static free with only the supplied FM wire that were really polluted on the SR-19 no matter what I did with the antenna. FM fans rejoice.
A fantastic unit in sound, build and appearence, I can't recommend it enough for those who love two channel music but want a receiver for dig. decoding/dig. signal in/dig. signal out.

Great sound

Weakness:

Mmmm.. can't think of any

I use the AVR7000 for a week now and I'm very pleased with it. I used AVR65 before, and it definitely sounds better and more powerful. When I watch "Das Boot" DVD, my apartment is literally shaking from all those depth charge explosions (great movie btw, with one of the best sound effects I've ever heard). I agree with some reviewers that sub output is a bit on the weak side. But after adjusting levels, everything sounds fine again. Unfortunately, I got a defective unit - there is a light static noise in the front right chanel (you can only hear it if you put your ear to the speaker). After speaking with H/K tech support, they advised me to exchange the unit (I got it at onecall.com for $1,164 shipped). So, Im getting the new one on Monday. But nevertheless, I wont grade it lower because this receiver is just awsome.

Sound and build

Weakness:

The sound absolutely blows away my last H/K receiver(AVR 75). I've had this unit now for about a month, and it still amazes me as each day passes. I've been re-tweaking the setup because my new speakers arrived a couple days ago, and with no speaker breakin they sounded fantastic.
This is one sweet, sweet , sweet receiver, sorry I got a little carried away.
Sound quality is exceptional in all sources IMO warm, sweet, and natural.
I really like the sleek look of this receiver and this puppy is built and weigh's like a tank.
The remote control has improved big time from there last version I was using.
The manual is still along the same lines as the last one, but no big deal.
I''ve read all the mag.,web, and reviews here and I see why so many people are happy with some exceptions, but were all human and have different tastes. I really wasn't going to upgrade from AVR 75 to 7000, but I got a deal on the web that was to good to pass up, and I'm extremely pleased. This is one PHAT receiver, way to go Harman Kardon.

Peace

Strength:

Power, Sound, flexibility and looks!

Weakness:

none, but I have had som problems with the "big" remote control, it doesn't work all the time.

I'm using the 7000 together with my "old" HK signatue 1.5
5-channel Power amplifier in a bi-amp configuration for all 5 speakers, thus each of the built in "preamplifiers" are driving two power amplifier channels. I have not noticed any problems with sound quality or dynamics, -I actually had problems with that with my old AVR 25II, driving an active subwoofer crossover with an input impdance of
7 k ohm.
One of the best features (improvment) of the 7000 compared to my old HK signature 2.0, besides the fact that it actually seems to be working, is that all the settings, Speaker, levels, etc. are made individually for each input/source. -Making it possible to have, let's say a configuration with large front speakers and no sub woofer for a flat frequency responce when listening to CD, and Large front speakers together with a Sub for movies.

The built in DAC sounds great on PCM, better than my HK DVD1, DVD-player and much better than the one in the Signature 2.0. The HDCD feature is nice.

The multi-room system is great since it includes video.
a tip!: If you have an old HK tuner or CD (probably replacesd by a DVD) you can use it in the remote room as the extra remote sensor needed, since it has daisy chain
in- and output's for remote control.
The Digital output (for digital recording) on the 7000 can be distributed to the remote room if you have a A/V receiver with DD decoder, then you can watch DVD-movies with DD sound in the remote room from the DVD player in the main room.

I have nothing to say against this great unit from HK, and I really like the design, fresh and/but retro (I have an old HK 730 from -79 that looks almost the same)

Strength:

Componant video switching, 4 digital inputs and 2 outputs, superior sound that rivals any reciever. One great thing is the built in HDCD decoder for my HDCD's.

Weakness:

The only thing after using the HK AVR 500 is that the AVR 7000 does not have the bass response in Logic7M or Logic7C.

The AVR 7000 is the best reciever in it's price class for sure, but I would take mine up against any reciever on the market. The sound quality alone makes the AVR 7000 superior to all recievers out there. The on screen display makes the setup much easier than the AVR 500. The 7000 also gives enough inputs to run all of my components. I also own the HK CDR2 CD recorder and playing HDCD decoded CD's on that throught the 7000 is awesome. The range of sound from great highs to excellent bass reproduction gives this reciever the capability to run just about any speaker for any home theater. For people looking for a reciever that is not costly but performs like any high end reciever this is your piece.

The remote is not user friendly, however if you take the time to learn it it can run your whole system. Harman really out did thereselves with this piece. The scary thing is that the power will blow you away. At 75@ per channel the current really makes a big impact for home theater but really makes an impact for music. I really believe that if you are running good speakers that the 7000 will not have any problems producing any range of sound imanginable. Logic7M and C gives a great five speaker effect that fills the entire room with sound. This is a very warm and detailed sound for music or any analog source you are driving. The bass responce in this mode like I mentioned earlier is not great, but if you love music it really doesn't matter.

I have not one bad thing to say about this reciever, for me and the rest of the people that own this beast we all share one thing in common and that is this reciever sounds and performs great. We all can write all we want, but you have to hear it. I work at Circuit City in Aurora Colorado, and we have been carrying this piece for about 3 months and people when they hear it love it even more. SO my advice is now that you hear what all the great things people say about the AVR 7000 go hear it. It will really blow your mind, bring your own music and be prepared to be blown away. Also be prepared for its size, it is really a beast and you will need a shelf exclusively for it, and maybe need to make one. However it is like love at first sight.

Made in China

Weakness:

Made in China

I just wanted to state a fact about merchandise produced in China.

We all know that alot of things that are produced in China is crappy. That however does not apply to all products. Alot of the worlds biggest companies today own or rent some of the most technically advanced facilities in the world, the funny thing is that they are in CHINA.

I know of two respected backpack manufacturers that produce there own products. However they both use the same facility in China for there production, then why is there such a big diff in quality if they both produce there products in the same facility? Well each and every company has has it's own standards when it comes to quality control. SO CHINA ISN'T ALL THAT BAD.

I myself was pretty skeptical about the MADE IN CHINA ISSUE!
My HK avr80 was made in Japan!

We will have to wait and see if Made in China is it's WEAKNESS or it's STRENGTH.

I doubt that HK would produce this product in China if there was ever an issue of lack of qaulity. What about the HK avr65 it had alot of problems from what I hear and wasn't it produced in Japan?

Any way just audition this receiver and admire it's great looks and SUPERIOR sound. The Denon AVC-1 is no match for this HK beast, and the Denon is alot more expensive.

Five stars to HK for a great product. You can always take a Made in Sweden lable and tape it over the Made in China!
