Strength:
Unbelievable sound from CD's. More power than I need but thats why I bought it. Remote is very easy to use. Huge size means I have to buy another rack, no problem though.
Weakness:
Uneven sound in all modes except CD or FM radio. Sounds absolutly great in 2 channel mode. Makes me realize how great CD's are supposed to sound. I bought it because my speakers just weren't kicking it out like they should with my older Denon. I'm disappointed in almost all the other modes. In Pro Logic I can barely hear the rears. I haven't tried a DVD yet. Tried 7 C & M. Depending on the source it is a slight improvement. Except for CD in Stereo mode though, all else is a huge disappointment. The remote is extremely easy to use although it has a problem controlling my Luxman DVD/CD player. It can't learn the code on my Digital TV Motorola signal controller or Panasonic TV either. Setting speaker levels etc is easy in OSD and the display on the set. Still I would like to have more controll over the surround speakes. I also noticed that the speaker levels on the mains have to be very over balanced to the left to get equal sound levels from them. Same with the surrounds. I suspect that part of the problem may be solved by usign "S" cables from the DVD and Motorola signal controller to the set then to the TV. Could someone let me know if they had the same problems. Weakness:
Multiple repairs needed. Totally unresponsive repair and parts. Do not buy from this company. The Harmon Kardon AVER7000 is totally unreliable. It has malfunctioned 3 times. Attempts to repait has been the most frustrating experience I have ever had. My receiver is presently at a "factory authorized" repair shop for 3-1/2 months. The facility can't order parts, Harmon Kardon doesn't reply to calls/emails for replacement parts and the cost was estimated at $250-300 to repair. I would never buy from HK again and recommend that no one else buy from them! |

Strength:
Sounds good until it breaks.
Weakness:
FREQUENTLY BREAKS, REPAIR PLACES CAN'T fix, and when they do, it takes 3 months to do so. This reciver is a very poor model. I have had the receiver 10 months, and it has been in the repair shop over 4. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. Harmon Kardon customer service has completely ignored me and the problems associated with this unit. Similar Products Used: HK AVR 500 |

They don't work 80% of the time. Enough said!!! Well after reading all the reviews here i decided to go ahead and get it anyway re-furbed from Harman Kardon direct, loving the way they sound i decided to chance it and lost!! in the first week the unit would just loose audio all channels one minute playing fine then nothing after it did this a few times in one day i decided that the unit was indeed a bad design,a unit coming directly from harman themselves did not work, it was not worth my time to even bother trying another unit. Harman need to stop selling this unit altogether re-furbed or otherwise, it's obvious that it is seriously flaud Why they insist on still selling them is beyond me, i have had experiance with a few harman kardon products including the AVR510 a few years ago which also was a piece of junk (reliability wise) went throught 4 of those before deciding to get something else altogether (the yamaha RXV3000) which is great but does not sound like the Harman's, i used to work for Tweeter as a store manager and can say that after hearing just about every receiver on the planet that Harman is definatly in the top 10% i have now ordered the AVR7200 i will get in soon, i will update as to the quality of the brand new stuff. i use mirage om9's in the front and OMR2's in the back, and a paradigm ps100 sub, (just incase you where interested) Gave it a 3 cause it doesn't work, try an AVR8000 or go even more resent AVR7200 by the way the THX on the AVR8000 means nothing, the AVR7000 and the AVR7200 have the same Torodial power supply and the power specs are almost identical so save money unless you like to wast it on labels that mean nothing, check it outfor yourself at Hometheatermag.com both the AVR7000and AVR8000are reviewed a couple of years apart. Strength:
tons of power clear sound lots of in/outs
Weakness:
needs a fan otherwise will get very warm I have this huge and heavy beast since one year and so far absolutely convinced of how good it is. Does it get hot? you bet! but, what are fans invented for? that´s right, if you don´t want this baby to burn into flames you better get one. I have tested it with different types and brands of speakers and it simply handles them like toys. What really impresses me is the ability of this 60lbs tank to sound so loud without noticing any distortion. It has so many inputs and outputs that I even use my laptop to hear music and even though it is far from being a hi-fi component, it sounds just like if it was a CD. Defintly a great combination of power and fidelity. Similar Products Used: Sony, Technics, Pioneer, Kenwood |

Amazing sound. I don't have surround sound - because after just straight CD music quality. Its unbelievable. Great warranty support
Weakness:
Like everybody else says, its heavy. Wouldn't want to have to move it regularly I recently purchased the HK7000. I have it hooked up with a pair of B&W DM603S3 and a HK Dvd/CD player. It sounds incredible, even bad recordings sound ok. The good ones...are just unbelievable. How bad is this story though. I purchased the receiver first, a couple of weeks later got the speakers. I was wiring them up...the receiver sits in my entertainment unit. So I had to thread the wire out the back and through to the speakers on the side. While doing this I accidently dropped the wire, and in the most freakish event - the two exposed wires went straight into the only free power point on my 4 adapter. One into the postive and one into the negative. I still can't comprehend how they fell perfectly into the two holes. Thus putting 240+Volts across the speaker terminals of the HK7000. After that it wouldn't switch on, took it back to the distributor explained the situation. Amazingly they fixed it under warranty. |

POWWA!!Clean clean clean!! It'll make your speakers sound better! Sweet looks. Take a look at that massive 7inch TORROIDIAL TRANSFORMER!
Weakness:
GAWD DANG ITS BIG. 50lbs but then again, a real mans receiver is gonna weigh a lot. Dont buy anything that weighs less than 50lbs. This receiver sounds so good I practically wet my pants. It's made my mains sound incredible. The bass is so accurate and the overall sound is SUPER clean. You can turn the volume way up and not notice unless your playing something because the power is so clean. The amplification is so accurate you can really tell crappy recordings from high quality. So far, I havent heard any really good music recordings. I get butterfly's in my stomach like the first time you kiss a girl everytime I play StarWars Attack of the Clones it sounds so good. I cant wait to get home and ignore my kids so I can listen to this beast. The best thing is to turn it up really really loud late at night and when the cops come, open the door and smile. Tell them, "Yeah, thats 75 amps HCC fer ya!" Similar Products Used: AVR 25, AVR 40 and AVR 70. |

On screen interface lacks ease of use. Technical writer needs to be fired. Changing modes is more complex than need be I have owned this product since it was first released. I LOVE IT. It is more than adequate. I have experienced no limitations in performance. This is the best Bang for the buck Similar Products Used: Hk avr25 mk-II, Onkyo Integra seperates, Sony ES Seperates. |

Strength:
Everything, actually... (as I use it). No crap (like a 120 different DSP:s) Sounds almost like an ordinary 2-channel amp of good quality. Lot´s of power to drive my Infinity Kappa 90 (not to 100%, but close... maybe my next amp can do that).
Weakness:
Big. Heavy. The design? (looks the same as the budget-revievers...:-/) It don´t have 120 different DSP:s, and the few that´s there is nothing to have, sounds terrible and far away from the quality that you have in 2-channel, DD or DTS-mode. Either I´m stupid or lucky, but this is one of the best purchases I´ve ever done. This amp has never burned up (OK, it gets warm, but at least you don´t need to freeze when you´re lookin´at your favorite movie), it never "plopps" when changing input sources, and at least it always works... I´ve never ever got any negative experience of this amp so far except the ones that I already knew (see "Weaknesses"). Similar Products Used: AVR-25 MKII, Nakamichi, NAD |
