Strength:
Power. Build Quality. Power. OSD. Component Video Inputs.
Weakness:
The only thing I dislike is when I'm watching a Dolby Digital Encoded channel on my DSS and switch to a non Dolby Digital encoded channel it switches the surround mode to off instead of Pro-Logic. A pain to switch the surround mode everytime I change the channel. I purchase the AVR7000 as a refurbished product directly from Harman/Kardon and I have never had any problems with it in over year. This thing is big and powerfull make sure it can fit in your A/V rack. If your into sound quality and not 4,000 different surround modes than this one is for you. Very simple and easy to use. Strength:
Good quality sound, good power.
Weakness:
Terrible reliability. I purchased this receiver in September, 2001. The sound quality is fine, power is good. However, the receiver has broken down twice in 9 months. First, the on-screen was "scrambled." Now, the left rear channel has failed. Therefore, due to reliability issues, I cannot recommend the purchase of this machine. Strength:
DTS, Dolby 5.1, HDCD, 110 watts per channel with true channel power dedication (contrary to some of the other cheaper AV receivers). My wife likes it over the audio at a theater because the surround sound volume can be turned down without loosing the quality.
Weakness:
Owner''s manual hard to interpret and understand and I have worked with computers and stereo equipment for over 25 years. Remote usage is a challenge, many buttons that are small, very busy. Receiver is very large, the home entertainment center had to be significantly modified to accomodate. Big, powerful AV receiver with all of the buttons (at the time of introduction). Makes movies on DVD like The Matrix, Pearl Harbor, What Women Want sound better than at the theater. Similar Products Used: 1st AV receiver. |

Strength:
Lots of power. Dynamics. Good low and high. Staging. All the connections you will ever need. Great looks. Good value for money.
Weakness:
none. Except for peole saying it''s too big and heavy. Had it been smaller and lighter it probably wouldn''t have been as good a receiver as it is now. No offence :-) I have owned this receiver for about 2 monyhs now, and am still very happy with it. Before this I owned the H/K avr3000, but felt I needed more power. And that''s exactly what I got, and more... This thing has got power to spare...allways. It never gives any sign of bottoming out. I mostly use it for music, but I''m a movie-lover too. So I needed an allrounder to do the job. I like to listen to my music fairly loud, this receiver does the job perfectly. Music sounds detailled, good staging and very nice dynamics. This thing really packs a good punch. Bass is tight and controlled mid and high are really detailled. As for movies. The DTS-decoder on this machine is incredible. Never heard such good DTS-sound anywhere else. Good placing and extreem dynamics (which I think is a good thing). Watch ''The Fifth Element'' with DTS. The DD decoding is good too but personally I prefer DTS over DD. For a good DD movie go get ''Final Fantasy, the spirits within'' Very cool movie :-) I bi-wired my speakers for more mid and high detail. I used copper for the low frequencies and silver for the mid and high. Makes a world of difference. For the lowest bass extension I hooked up a REL Storm III. I can reccomend doing that to anybody. By having good low frequencies the entire soud gets better, more detailled and better staging. My main sources are a Marantz CD6000OSE LE, connected to the AVR7000 with a van den Hul D102 III HB. For DVD''s I have a H/K DVD20, connected with a van den Hul Digital the First. Main speakers are JBL L80 mk II. Center is JBL LX10 Center. Rears JBL Control LA Universe. All in all I''m very happy with the way the AVR7000 integrates into my system. I would reccomend this receiver to anyone. But to get out all there is in this receiver I would also advise to get some good speakers and a good sub. And don''t place it in an enclosed space, this thing gets HOT. So it needs a lot of air to breathe. Kind regards. Similar Products Used: H/K AVR3000 |

Strength:
The unit produces very clear sound WHEN WORKING.
Weakness:
NOT RELIABLE I know I should have taken the bad reviews seriously before I bought my unit. I was hoping to one of the lucky one and get good one. Here''s the story, Six months after I bought the avr7000 I decided to complete my surround setup by installing my surround speakers and then I found out that the surround outputs were not working. So I took it to Circuit City to have it repaired. Three weeks later I got a call from CC and they informed me that the unit is not repairable and they have to send it back to the manufacturer. |

Strength:
Excellent surround decoding. I/O options galore. It''s forte is, of course, it''s amplifier section. This provides tons of power w/ some of the sweetest, cleanest sound you''ll ever hear.
Weakness:
It was fairly expensive, though it was thousands less than what would be required to beat it. When people talk about how big it is, THEY''RE NOT KIDDING. This thing is massive, not to mention heavy. Both minor issues for such great sound. After reading countless reviews, I was sure this was the one. I''d heard talk of problems with this model, but I''ve been using it constantly for months with only one issue. When Digital and Analog inputs were connected at the same time, there was a hum that was constantly present. I''ve recently gone Digital Out from my computer, so this is no longer an issue. Aside from that, it provides some of the sweetest sound this side of a tube amp. The decoding, both AC-3 and DTS, are spot on. Excellent dynamic range and channel separation highlight the surround experience. Tons of power. For both music and movies, this is the best Receiver I''ve had the priviledge to use. If you knew me, you''d know that I don''t allow myself to easily be separated from this much money, but it was worth every penny. |

Strength:
Superb sound quality!!! HIGH CURRENT CAPABLE read my review I did my best to explain why you need it. Looks nice and got more then enough inputs/outputs. GET IT!!
Weakness:
NONE! Tip: DO NOT BUY REFURBISHED STUFF! Absolutely great reciever!!! The greatest thing about this is that it got HIGH CURRENT CAPABILITY. I am a small electrical engeener so let me explain how this works. When a reciever sends any change in signal it uses Voltage and Current to move the speaker diagphram move back and forth to produce sound. Voltage is the force you push electrons with and current is the actual amount of electrons that you push. So to produce instantaneous sound changes reciever needs to push enough power to throw the diagphram to its needed position as soon as the signal changes. Regular recievers can''''t do that since suppose they push a diagphram forward but when the signal changes to push it back in, they wouldn''''t have enough current to pull it all the way in leaving you with "sound blur and rattle". HK7000 gives you UP TO 75 amps per channel to get a GOOD HARDCORE GRASP TO YOUR SPEAKER DIAGPHRAMS thus making instantaneous change in sound without damaging your speakers. To give you an idea of how much it is, it''''s as much as powering 126 60Watt light bulbs at once!! My point is GET IT! It got plenty of optical and digital coax inputs, got a 6CH direct input that I use for my Sound Blaster Audigy to get my 5.1 gaming surround sound. Many Surround Sound modes. Fron A/V/S-video inputs. Its easy to use and got a great lighted keypad smart remote that can learn all kinds of buttons from your other A/V equipment even if the you can''''t find the right code. Its sexy looking and just can''''t beat the deal. That sucker also weighs 50 pounds, you can do bench with it in a gym and a little oversized. BUY IT AND YOU WILL BE HAPPY FOR LIFE! DO NOT BUY REFURBISHED STUFF CAUSE IT SUCKS!!! When they "fix" it they cant possibly pinpoint everything that went wrong with it before and then 2 months later you start having problems and blame it on manufacturer when in reality some moron poured coke in it or something. Hook it up, turn it up and watch your neighboor''''s lights dim....naw j/k. It does use quite a bit of power though up to 1100watts peak. One more thing BUY FROM EBAY!!!! YES IT''''S SAFE!!! Same stuff for a lot cheaper. Be smart and save your money!!! Thanks for reading/possibly understanding what I wrote. Similar Products Used: Hmm.....Possibly vacuum tube amps?? |
