Strength:
Lots of power for the price...
Weakness:
Have to set front speakers to normal when using powered sub with a/v plugs I have had this reciever for quite a while and i have never had any problems with it at all, would recommend to someone who doesn't have thousands of dollars to spend on a amplifier... Don't enjoy the fact that you have to set the front speakers to a lower setting when using the subwoofer output (thank god my Yamaha YST-SW160 has secondary inputs) but all in all a great deal. |

Strength:
Affordable Dolby Digital amp
Weakness:
No S-video connections Great, afforable Dolby Digital Receiver! Runs cool, even at high sustained volume levels. Very reliable! Can't be beat for $280 Canadian. |

Strength:
Simplicity, remote, versatility, attention to detail.
Weakness:
No DTS - get the VR 309 for that. Hard to beat for the price - I'm tying together all my equipment - DVD, hi-fi VCR, existing and new speakers. This is the only non-Sony component I have - and Sony could learn a thing or two from Kenwood about receivers. The 307 is more than powerful enough for my living room, and is driving 4 RCA surround speakers, Cambridge Audio Works center and subwoofer, as well as a pair of Bose 201s on the B circuit for the bedroom. Lots of built-in checks for audio performance and surround settings, video signal switching and auto compliance with the source signal. |

This is a great, great system for anyone who's on a budget. It's a step up from the 207, and it virtually has no difference compared to the 209s. Why pay $349-399 for VR-209? Get this one instead! |

this is a great reciever, and a nice price. Only one problem its DSP mode, it doesn't have one. |

Best bang for the buck - all the toys, crystal clear sound! And 500 watts all around! |

This receiver retails for $299, and features 5x100w. It has 3 digital inputs, one of which is optical. It also has outputs for a second set of surround speakers. In use, it sounds great, with plenty of power. It lacks DTS and S-video switching. I have had mine for many months and I am really impressed with it's performance and price. On sale these can be had for $249 at Frys. Great deal. |

Strength:
This receiver has an excellent price for a digital receiver and it sports a tape monitor in case you want to use an equalizer. The initial setup is a bit awkward for the novice user. It has plenty of power but I would recommend a subwoofer if you really want that hard thump. I also liked the fact that it had an A and B speaker switch. I tried a Sony dr535 and a technics but I think this one is a better entry level value.
Weakness:
this unit could use a dsp mode and really lacks the bass I like but this is purely a personal preference. Don't expect any frills at this price as this is about as basic as you can get in a digital receiver. Overall, not a bad deal just don't expect a lot of lights or Similar Products Used: Sony, Technics |

Strength:
Digital Sound is excellent, I also like the capabilities it has for future expansion.
Weakness:
Doesn't have S-Video or DTS Sound, also with a subwoofer that is on the auto setting, it some times doesn't put out enough signal to take the woofer of standby. Digital Sound is excellent, I also like the capabilities it has for future expansion. Doesn't have S-Video or DTS Sound, also with a subwoofer that is on the auto setting, it some times doesn't put out enough signal to take the woofer of standby. I beleive that VR-309 is a better value as this receiver has the S-Video and DTS capabilities. Similar Products Used: Kenwood VR-3080 |

Strength:
Great unit if you only have 1 digital A/V device
Weakness:
No S-video switching, no digital A/V source sound switching For the record this is a hell of a good receiver for the bucks. I'm in the process of looking for a new one to replace it only because my A/V needs have grown. Now that I have a DVD drive and a digital cable box I have a need to a) switch the S-video signal and b) be able to hear both digital and analog audio from the cable box without switching anything on the receiver. Other than this I have been totally happy with this receiver over the last 10 months. It's a great product for the bucks. |
