Strength:

Acceptionally Clear sound, lots of a/v inputs, Very easy to use. Lots of un-advertised features

Weakness:

No dts decoding and .7% destortion is just getting a little high for 100 watts, but it does 50 watts a channel at .03%, which is very descent.

I say its a pretty awesome reciever for its price, I got it on sale at circuit city in the after christmas sales and it has rocked the house ever since. Put some nice speakers on this baby and it is sweet! I am completely satisfied with this receiver. I personally think it is the best for under 300 bucks but i know others have different opionions. See ya!

Strength:

Plenty of power for an AC-3 amplifier while watching DVDs.

Weakness:

Power is not strong enough for good bass reproduction when used in stereo mode. I would suggest adding a good powered subwoofer to your system if this is your choice as an amplifier for all your listening (CDs and DVDs). Unfortunately the Subwoofer out is only enabled when the front channel speakers are set to normal. This means that to connect a subwoofer you have to be willing to give up even more power(=bass) to your main front speakers.

Overall, it is a good amplifier if you primarily want to use it for watching Dolby Digital DVDs. If you want an amplifier that will drive your main(front) speakers to window rattling bass standards while listening to CDs, take a pass on this amplifier and invest a couple hundred dollars more you'll be happier in the long run.

Pioneer Dolby Pro-Logic VR603 rated at 120 watts per channel in stereo which produced far more bass through my main speakers than this amplifier seems capable of creating.

Strength:

Good power output in stereo & DD. CHEAP price high value

Weakness:

No tone control in DD mode, No 5.1 channel input

First off, for the guy who says 10 watts did matter, doubling wattage increases volume by 3dB. Second, Bass output depends on the speakers frequency response. This reciever delivers plenty of power to a decsent sized room, putting out 153 watts@ clipping(one channel driven into 4 ohms) (very high for this class of a receiver). It sounds excellent for the price, with clear highs and bass output.
Dolby Digital recordings sound excellent.(My favorite test DVD is Lethal Weapon 4). In conclusion, I would recomend this receiver to anyone looking for a receiver that is easy to set up and will deliver an excellent bang to buck ratio

Strength:

I woulden't really call it "strong" in any area.

Weakness:

UNDER POWERED. No DTS, no S-video, lack of digital in's.

I bought this reciever almost a year ago for more than $500(canadian) thinking it was 100RMS per channel. WELL.. IT's NOT. Try 48 watts per channel. I always wondered why the 65w/ch in my truck sounded louder and now I know. Because Kenwood is pathetic, they have a big name and use it, BIG TIME. They expect you to trust them, and lots of people do. Everything they sell is over rated and over priced. Here is one link but I don't know how long it will last... http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Hollow/3401/ratevsac.htm
(by the way my opinions are not just based on that link, Kenwood really does suck)

Right now I'm in a fairly small room(about 12X17) and it didn't take much to sound loud, I would imagine if I was somewhere with a bigger living room I would have noticed right away but it's too late now. If you want a nice reciever go buy a Denon or Yamaha or Onkyo or somthing else.. I really don't trust sony either but their recievers are more powerfull than Krapwood's. The only reason I give my krapwood a 2 star for value and overall is because it didn't blow up on me and aesthetically doesn't suck too bad.

Spend the extra cash and buy from somewhere that takes a little pride in what they sell.. I bought mine from Wacky Weatley's in Fredericton, N.B. and will never go back.
