Strength:

reasonably price(for the quality.),very unimposing looks,solid performance.

Weakness:

none

I have on this unit for quite some time now an i must say that I,m very please with it,s performance.I think marantz has created a category killer here.I audition several recivers in this price range an the SR19 canot be beat.I think its sound is so tranparent an uncoloring until you wouldn,t even notice it,s there, except to use the remote.Speaking of the remote, can we say battery,s Marantz must own stock in eveready energizer.I want bore you with specs or graphs, because the SR19 did great in sound an vision.Icouldn,t recomend a better unit for your hard earned money.

Strength:

Clean 130w power, Good looking, BEST remote out there, Has every conection you need! THX-EX DTS-ES!!

Weakness:

Makes me want to stay home to play with it all day!

SR19 EX will make you smile for days. This remote is so easy to use. I hate remotes, but I love this one. Beautiful display. This receiver was hooked up in less than a half hour to all of my components. Everything is marked very well. I out grew my SR7000 in about a year, It is an extremly good good receiver for $700. The Sony 555ES had a terrible touch screen remote that took two hands to work and the backlight kept turning off too soon.

THX ULTRA is nice. the screen lights up with THX whenever you watch a THX movie. So far I have not found anything I don't understand or don't like. MUSIC MATTERS to MARANTZ. I am about a 70% movie and 30% music person, but I wanted a receiver that was built around the theory that music matters because guess what movies are made up of? Lots of music! Best of both worlds. If Ifind anything i don't like this will be the first place I air the news. So far it is everything I thought it would be and more.

Strength:

Performance

Weakness:

I could't get the bannana plug in so I used bare wires

I needed the cash so I sold a lexicon processor and a rotel amp and purchased this unit based on the reviews here.
Thank you all, This is probably my best deal of the year (although it only began). The marantz is an improvement over my old setup for a lot less money. OK it doesn't have EX or future software upgradabilty but with this performance who cares.
By the way Uncle's Stereo are strongly recommanded. check their web site www.unclestereo.com and buy with confidence.

Strength:

sound it cant be beat unless you have expensive seperates.

Weakness:

the peak light goes on whenever i listen to two chanell stereo at moderate level.

this review is for the newer model 19ex. this a/v reciever is the most natural and realistic sounding unit you can buy with out having to spend so much on seperates it even sounds better than most mid level seperates. but if your going to get this be sure not to hold back on quality cables and speakers. i have the paradigm studio 80v2 combined with MIT terminator 2 biwire hooked up to this unit and i cant believe how much i was missing after i took back the denon 5800 wich sounded to bright for my taste. this marantz just sounds so natural and warm I can listen to music all day and for H/T the sound really pulls you in to the movie. awesome piece of equiment thanks marantz. and good luck with yours.

Strength:

preamp versatility. transparency and sound stage. remote. 4 digital inputs (coaxial and optical)

Weakness:

loss of control at higher volumes (for music). crayola like onscreen display, no component video in or out

I like the SR19 for the amp sound. There are better sounding amps but none at this price housed inside of a preamp. I love NAD's soft sounding amps but am terribly put off by their lack of concern over the digital realm of receivers. I'm impressed by B&K's receivers. The thought and engineering that's gone into their product is readily appearent, unfortunately, they also remembered to kick up the price.

A buddy has the SR96. I've always been impressed with the sound and the remote. The SR19 is versatile as far as using analog or digital inputs. It's intuitive to set up. Like one review read, once it's set up, you forget it's there. It just does the job without that nagging feeling something is missing. I wanted a dependable receiver with up to date technology that could play movies with power and music with control. When I watch movies now, I'm satisfied. And my wife kinda likes it too.

As for music, it's not everything I wanted but I'm impressed. I've never heard music sound this good from a digital receiver. Eventhough my ears were ready to make concessions, the SR19 has been generous with transparency and soundstage. While I don't play music loud often, the musicality of this amp goes away. It's not so much harsh as it is unforceful.

Side note on DVD audio. I'll be surprised if it becomes anything more than audiophile level equipment. While the improvement in sound is readily noticed, the cost is not worth it.

Strength:

Powerful sound, clarity

Weakness:

none

I was fortunately able to shell out the coin to purchase this receiver. Otherwise, I would have resided myself to buying something I probably would have had doubts about in the long run. WOW. This receiver has it all, and really sounds great. I have some older Boston speakers (sub sat 6 fr, sub, center & surrounds), and I have never heard such clarity. Maybe it was that I was just using an old receiver (Phillips 970 - I think). The salesperson talked me into this one after looking at the AV-560 pre-amp, and the Marantz 5 channel amp. I still have the expandability, and it was $400 less. The bonus was that I get more optical inputs and the output for an MD recorder.

Strength:

Powerful! Detailed Warm sounding

Weakness:

This review is for the new Marantz 19EX. Marantz has finally added 5 channel stereo atleast on this amp. The sound is wonderful clear and powerful! Excellent separation and bass.
IMO this is one of the very best you can buy(I did not say the best) I have only used it for Prologic, so I am sure I have not heard all this RX can do. I am an audiophile first. I will not buy a DVD until the Recording units are affordable.I do not need anymore obsolete boxes sitting in my rack. I own Krell and NHT 3.3's so I know go sound when I hear it.
I can do music very well and could satisfy most people doing music and moives. That said by no means can it compete with my Krell setup, but atleast I can listen to it as opposed to some other Rx I have heard. It has a very full and accurate sound and should be used with very good cables. Please do not spend this much money and put those red and white cables on this. Also Marantz has up the power to 130WPC into 8ohms.

Strength:

Superb 2 channel music reproduction. Excellent performance in playing movies

Weakness:

Manual is atrocious. 1 month break in period. Easily reveals weaknesses in interconnects and cables.

What can I say that has not been said earlier. This unit rocks. For music, this receiver has exceeded my expectations. It only gets better with time. I have listened to all of my CDs again I am hearing things that I have never heard before. Feels like Mark Knopfler is standing between the speakers and singing.

This unit needs a 1 month break in period. The treble, mid-range and the base improve with time.

If you are in the market for a $1650 receiver, this is the one. It sounds much better than Elite 37TX.

It does an excellent job with movies (DTS and Dolby Digital). I have played around 30 DVDs. It struggled for a couple of seconds during Gladiator during a fight scene, but handled every other DVD incredibly well (Could have been the DVDs fault).

My setup
--------
Marantz DV18MkII - Incredible player
Vandersteen Center and 2CI
Kimber Kwik 12 Speaker biwire
MIT T4 INterconnects.

Strength:

Review is for 130watt SR-19EX. Power, clean rich sound, awesome AM/FM Gyroscopic Tuner, good controls

Weakness:

Although is sounds amazing for Audio and DVDs, Voices echo annoyingly when you run television shows or television movies through it in any sound mode. (ANY ADVICE OR SOLUTIONS TO THIS ARE REQUESTED!)

I'm no audio expert but I can hear quality and this receiver is nothing short of impressive. Anything from Bach to Black Sabbath sound alive in 2 ch stereo mode, and 5 channel mode is sometimes nice as well (especially at lower volumes).
My only complaints are that the bass and treble adjustments have a limited range (although they really don't need much tinkering), the thing is so impressively BIG that it won't fit in the stereo cabinet of my entertainment center (too wide), and my most frustrating criticism is that in TV mode voices are echoey in stereo, dolby surround, etc. WHY IS THIS? I've never experienced this problem with any other receiver? If someone has a solution to this PLEASE EMAIL ME! I'd be MOST appreciative.

Regardless, the SR-19EX has become the most heavily used piece of equipment in my home. I have it hooked up to the computer and play Mp3s through it constantly. I will rate it highly.

This is a revision.. the line say, "but for home theater, it's does... 'it should be: it doesnt sound as good as the Denon AVR-4800 or the Pioneer elite VSX-39TX.'" Sorry for the confusion. I just typed it in, and didnt check it over before I post it.
