Strength:

VERY DETAILED SOUND. EXTREMELY SMOOTH TRANSITIONS FROM CHANNEL TO CHANNEL. VERY STRONG CONSTRUCTION ALSO.

Weakness:

I USE BANANA PLUGS AND IT WAS A TASK TO REMOVE THE PLUGS IN THE BACK. NOT TOO MUCH OF A WEAKNESS GUYS.

THIS UNIT REALLY SURPRISED ME. I HAVE BEEN TRYING DIFFERENT UNITS FOR SEVERAL MONTHS AND THIS UNIT HAS EXCEEDED ALL MY EXPECTATIONS. THE REMOTE IS VERY SIMPLE TO USE AND PROGRAM. THE HOOK UP IS VERY SIMPLE EXCEPT IF YOU ARE USING BANANA PLUGS FOR THE SPEAKER CONNECTION. LIKE I SAID BEFORE THIS UNIT SURPRISED ME BECAUSE I NEVER THOUGHT ABOUT MARANTZ PRODUCTS. YOU WILL REALLY ENJOY THIS UNIT. SOME PEOPLE SAY THAT IT IS COSTLY BUT IT IS WORTH IT. IF FUNDS ARE AN ISSUE I WOULD RECOMMEND THE SR8000 FROM THEIR LINE OF RECEIVERS.

What a unit! Philips has done it again!!! Yeah - they have owned Marantz for over 12 years! Remember all that great Philips gear from the late 80's - where did it go - well they bought Marantz and put all their efforts into making Marantz (Philips) top of the line!

Weakness:

NONE!

I have read the other reviews and mostly could not agree more. This is one uit that you are proud to own and most seperates try hard to match! Only one thing - I would like to see more of a power touch like remote on this unit. Otherwise flawless!

Great job "PHILIPS"!!!

Strength:

VERY clean sound, supurb definition, solid build

Weakness:

NONE!

This is my first venture in the DDS, DTS world of sound. I am absolutely blown away every time I watch any DVD or video! And when I turn to my CD player, it's as if I'm in the studio with the musicians. I chose the Marantz over the Pioneer Elite, or Denon based on the reviews here. They could not have been more on the nose about the quality of this piece. I skeptically went through the "burn in" period (I was told 30 to 80 hours) to see if there was a real difference in the sound. Was there ever! It was night/day, but the richness of the bass, and the clairity of the treble/mid just keep getting better and better. On DDS/DTS, my jaw still hurts from spending so much time on the floor. You really need to listen to it to appreciate it. My dealer has a one year upgrade option. So, I'm already working into my budget the extra coin to move up to the SR-18. The remote is VERY good, but I'm trading it in for the new RC5000. It should be in the coming week. Can't wait to play with that for a long time. Stop your search, Marantz is the ONLY way to go for Stereo/HT!!!

Strength:

Size, sound, clearity, imaging, and very loud...the list goes on. Remote rocks

Weakness:

Honestly, I haven't found any!

First, I wanted kent to know that there are bannana plugs, all you have to do is remove the black caps and you're ready to go.

As for the receiver, what can I say that hasn't already been said. It looks great. This is an outstanding machine. Expensive, however, worth every penny. Competes with some high end seperates and better then most.

I reviewed this receiver when I first got it, but did't really get a chance to play with it. What a difference when broken in. Music sounds great as well as in HT mode during movies. Explosions are very deep and acurate.

The remote is fantastic, programs everything without fail, what else can I say about it, look at it!

All and all, this receiver reproduces movies in a manner that I've yet to hear from this type of more expensive receivers...very highly recommended.

My setup includes:
B&W603's L&R
B&W LCR6 CC
B&W601's surrounds
Mirage ps-10 sub
VanDen Hull speaker wire
Toshiba 2109DVD
36'Toshiba Cinama TV
Tributarie cables all around

Strength:

Build quality. Remote. Value-for-money.

Weakness:

Remote (see below).

First, let me extend my gratitude to the other reviewers here. You made a difficult decision much easier.

As an enthusiast stepping up to a higher-end system, I researched other receivers in the same price range, yet kept returning to the Marantz SR-19 after having demo'd Denon, Onyko, and other offerings. One reason for this is that I am familiar with the "Marantz sound" and it suits my listening aesthetics nicely.

The build quality of the unit is very good. It is a heavy, well-constructed box, and all terminals, buttons, and knobs reveal the quality you would expect when laying out $1500+ on a receiver. The speaker binding posts were of some concern to other reviewers, but they suit my setup adequately.

The remote: It is a thing of beauty and is wonderful in many respects as described elsewhere. My one complaint is that the balancing of the remote could have been better thought out. Pressing the buttons at the bottom of the top-heavy remote is difficult. If you want to use this remote as the universal monster it is, start building up your wrist muscles. This is really quite a minor complaint, but one that could have been easily avoided by engineering the battery compartment differently.

Hiss: Other reviews have mentioned some hiss, yet I have been unable to reproduce this, even after removing power conditioning, using crappy speaker cables and interconnects, and generally lowering the quality of my setup.

Manual: I didn't find the manual to be the horror that other reviews have described -- the figures are really quite clear -- yet it still leaves much to be desired.

Features (whistles-and-bells): The remote is the most obvious nice feature, but the variety of listening modes, multi-room capability, assignable digital inputs, and on screen configurability stand out as some of the other nice features. I don't feel like this unit outdoes the competition with the total number of features, but certainly executes the ones it does have very well.

Subjective impressions: I am very happy with this unit. Paired with my Monitor Audio Silver series speakers, I get wonderfully detailed and rich sound that warms my innards, whether listening to two-channel or THX Ultra. Your mileage may vary with your listening aesthetics.

Strength:

Very powerfull, detailed, great base, looks awesome...too many things to mention

Weakness:

don't have much to complain about. Wish it had component V.

First of all, my price is in cnd $$. And this is a follow up review from April 2000

I love this receiver. It's been almost one year, and the SR-19 sounds better then it ever did. Once I installed my setup in a larger room (10W x 16L) it made a huge difference. With my new speakers, also a huge difference. The bottom line is if you porperly setup the receiver with the right gear, you get one hell of a sound system.

Remote is awesome, learn's all other remote functions. Looks very cool.

SR-19 is very accurate, detailed and put's out clean power. Great base. Basically it sounds that damn good!! I thought about upgrading, but at the price I got it for, it is the best receiver in it's class. It can't be beat. I'm not sure if EX will fly, but untill then, this receiver will be part of my system for many years to come.

I'm sure everything I forgot to mention, has already been said.

Setup:

SR-19
BP2004TL (will replace with 2002TL soon) Def Tech
CLR2002 (will replace with CLR2500)
BP2X (will replace with 2004TL)
Pioneer DV-05
36 inch Toshiba (will replace with 65H80 16X9)
Tributaries interconnects and cables
JPS Labs Speaker wire (will replace with Kimber 8TC)

Strength:

Brilliant Two-Channel Sound Stage, THX Ultra-Certified, Versatility, Quality Build.

Weakness:

No phono preamp, manual, accessing some features

I owned the Yamaha for about two months and traded up for the new 2001 Marantz SR-19EX. It has more power than the 19, is now THX Ultra-certified and has many more optical inputs than before.

After my old NAD Monitor reciver gave out, I decided to go shopping for a 5.1 receiver. I originally came home with the Yamaha, but I just couldn't live with the two-channel sound from that unit--the soundstage was two diffused for my taste. It also was barely adequate with my speakers (Snell C-IVs).

The Marantz is an entirely different story--an absolutely brilliant piece of equipment. I went back and forth between the 18EX and 19EX and finally decided to start with the 19EX and then trade up if I needed to--I won't have to do that anytime soon.

The two-channel sound stage is focused like a laser beam with my Snells. On well produced CDs (try Madonna's latest)every instrument is anchored somewhere distinct from left to right. Close your eyes and you are almost there! On less production happy music (from the Gun Club to the Ramones) the Marantz gets out of the way and delivers a clean, pure signal. Difficult female vocal performances, which sound shrill out of lesser products sound like liquid gold coming out of the Marantz.

One of the really stiking things about this receiver is how quiet it is--beyond the source material it's striking what you don't hear. THX performance is excellent with all the DVDs I've tried so far--it really does provide a more fluid front to rear transition.

My only complaints are about the instruction manual (which is less than helpful), and some features are hard to access (it took me a couple of hours to figure out how to switch to the six-channel input--apparently accessible only through the unit's remote control).

It's a little more complicated to set up than the Yamaha was (re-assigning the digital inputs etc.), but once you get the hang of it the verstility more than makes up for it. I've read some negative comments about the remote, but with a little time it can run your whole system! I sat down with it for a couple of hours on Sunday night and it's already learned all of the basic functions for my DVD, LD, CD, TV, Tivo and VCR units. I haven't gotten into rewriting the function key shorthand yet, but it's doesn't look too difficult.

All in all, you won't find a better sounding 5.1 receiver in this price range (if at all!). This is a fabulous product!

Clear Sounding.
Listen CD in digital mode does make a HUGE difference
Build Quality
Remote is AWESOME

Weakness:

None!!!!

For what I pay, I think it is a bargain for a receiver this
quality. I really like how the unit was built, it is very well balanced, very heavy, and very classy. I have try the Matrix DVD with Dolby Digital, TrueLie with THX processor on, and man, it is amazing. It is not cheap for most of people, but if you want a execllent quality A/V receiver that you can enjoy over next copule years, this is the unit you should not miss. It is a bit hard to setup in the beginning, because I don't have a digital cable, but once you master it, it is very very easy. Also I think the way it assigns the device is cool too.

What can I say, it's all been said. This receiver rocks!! Why pay 2-3x more for seperates when you can get near or as good of sound from this great amp.

I was very impressed in how detailed and clear it played. It played very loud and was without a doubt the best receiver I've ever auditioned.

When using it for extensive hours it doesn't even get warm!! Excellent!

I recommend this machine without reservation. Go audition it now.
