Strength:
A lot of power, warm full sound. Both with movies and music listening. Easy meny accessing to surround modes and OSD meny. Has many inputs, both analoge and digital (2 coax + 2 opt.). Many S-video ins & outs. 7 ch input for f.ex. DVD audio. 7 ch pre outs. Looks very nice to. Massive and big.
Weakness:
The remote is to packed with buttons. Can be a little confusing sometimes. You have to press twice to switch between CD/TV/DVD modes etc. Takes time to get used to. There are several better remotes from Marantz with display that I'm concidering to buy. The first thing that comes to mind, is that this unit has a lot of power. Listed 6x105w, but the manual says 6x110w. Anyway - it is plenty of power. I use pretty big main speakers - AAD c800i (American Acoustic Development). They play easily, but they improve with enough watts. I started with with DVD's & surround about 2 years ago. Before that, I just listened to music. With only Marantz units. So when I was going to buy a S-receiver, I knew I wanted Marantz. I had earlier tried Teac's AG-d9260. This was ok for movies, but it didn't work for stereo listening. To hard mid and top, and very little bass. Then I tried Marantz SR4200. This was to weak to run my mains, but had a nice warm sound in 5.1. The SR6200 convinced me. It has a lot of everything, from bass to top, and plays very corect dynamic. Now - my mains souns even better than with my Marantz PM7000 Stereo amp (2x95w). It has 6.1 wich was a big step from 5.1! Movies with 5.1 tracks get more life with the center surround. The SR6200 do a great job decoding L/R sur. to L/Center/R from 5.1 tracks. And of cource even better with 6.1 tracks. I can see from other reviews that this unit is more ekspensive in Norway, but anyhow, $930 is still very cheap for what you get with this receiver. I've heard A/B comparing with this unit and others, and the SR6200 rules in sound quality. My setup is: Mains: AAD c800i (with serialno. 1 & 11) Center: AAD c401i Surr.: Warfedale Programme 30 Sub: AAD c10 DVD: Marantz DV4200PRO CD: Marantz CC3000PRO Receiver:Marantz SR6200 Similar Products Used: Teac Ag-D9260 Marantz SR4200 |

Strength:
Lots of power Excellent "warm" sounds quality for movies and Music Up to date features Runs pretty cool even after an extended periods of time at high volume Easy to program the remote
Weakness:
remote is huge and requires 2 hands to operate most of the time. The manual is written for a technician. I could have used one more optical in but thats just me =) This review is for the 6300. I picked up this set about a month ago as my first endevour into the world of home theater. I had no idea that getting into audio would require so much research but I was determined to get premium sound for a reasonable price. I auditioned Denons 5803, Onkyo, NAD, and Pioneer. I can't remember the models of the latter 3 but they were all comparitivly priced sets. I thought the NAD sounded very nice but only offered 1 DSP which scared me away. The Onkyo and Denon sounded almost to "sharp" if thats the word, and Pioneer was a waste of time. The Marantz had the "warmest" sound of all the recievers I listened to and I got it relativly cheap at $1100(Canadian). I am more than happy with this reciever in the time I have spent with it. The sound quality is superb on both movies and music. It was important for me to get a musical reciever as I listen to lot of music. Also, the set offers plenty of power and I can't see me needing anything more for quite some time. So many connections. Latest formats. Good remote. Powerfull.
Weakness:
None yet This is for the Marantz SR6300. What a fantastic piece of equipment, looks amazing and sounds pretty good too. Value for money this delivers (£380). Reviewed everything around this price range and nothing came close for both music and home theatre. |

DSP modes are worthless Bought this unit two weeks ago and overall am very pleased with most of its features and operation. This is a refurbished unit, thus the 449.00 pricetag with free shipping! Music cd's played on my Marantz DVD sound wonderful. Full and detailed sound for Movies. Dolby pro-logic II and circle surrund do an admirable job with analog signals. Strength:
A combination of stereo and surround
Weakness:
The manual. Eventhough it is written in my language, it is definately not obvious and straight forward. I guess Marantz aims only technally educated people; which is of cource very strange, while those people do not need a manual. As a regular listener I had the opportunity to buy this receiver at a very reasonable price, Eur 498. Afore the purchase I had listened to a Denon 1803 and Yamaha Rds 630. I wanted to have a 6-channel receiver. Marantz to me, was the best of both worlds: nice surround receiver and a very fine stereo amp. It was not too difficult to be convinced to purchase this receiver as such a bargain Similar Products Used: n/a |

Strength:
On screen set-up is relatively easy to use. Connecting it was a breeze (I just used digital out from my DVD player, a 1999 Sony of some sort). It runs cool, so you don't have to worry too much about letting it breathe. And there is plent of juice (so far) for a modest home theater, and probably for a pretty big one.
Weakness:
The remote is TERRIBLE. And the binding posts on the back are a little wimpy. I wish you could do more set-up without the onscreen hookup, but I understand that would probably be more difficult, not less. This is a sweet AV amplifier. I haven't checked it out yet with a really good set of speakers, but I assume that because it is a Marantz product, it will sound clear and warm. I am using it currently for my home theater set up, and it is perfect. Similar Products Used: None. |

Strength:
I like its sound. Power enough to drive most speakers.Good with music too.
Weakness:
LFE management. The stereo perspecive is a little narrow. Some may not like the remote. The manual. This is a quite good receiver. Music is smooth, dynamic and detailed with cd's in source direct mode. The stereo perspective is a little narrow and the mid is not as precise as the highs and lows, but it sounds great anyway. If you want something that sounds better you have to give 1200$ or more. In surround sound it is impressive, where it has great dynamics, even with my blended discount jamo-eltax speaker setup. It is much better than the receiver I had previously(Technics sa-ax6). Compared to the Technics it has more power and has more detailed sound with better lows and highs. I have chosen the Marantz sr6200 because of the reviews on this site, and others opinions about Marantz. Actually I was heading for the old SR7000, but I thought that it did not have features and power enough and it was a little pricey too. Then I Heard there were new SRx200 models on the way, so I waited. Now I have this Marantz SR6200 and I am very pleased with it. I cannot wait until I have the money for quality speakers and cables to hear what this receiver really can do. Similar Products Used: Technics sa-ax6 |

Strength:
Low noise level. Easy to set up.
Weakness:
Quality control seems to be very bad and the service I got was very poor. No speaker A/B. No phono input. Lack of bass control. Remote is extremely poor - the worst offering out there. Channel balance is a little less convenient to adjust than some other brands and I was displeased with even the stereo imaging after careful setup. I thought 6200 was overly bright in my room with my speakers. My ears would get tired after 1 to 2 hours of listening. I think the 6200 I had was not putting out 110 watts. I researched receivers for several months and listened to demos of the Harman Kardon, Onkyo, Denon, Pioneer, Onkyo Integra, JVC, Sony, and Marantz lines. I bought a Marantz 6200 because I thought it sounded the best for the cost, but I ended up with a defective receiver and sent it back disappointed. The 6200 is a nice receiver, but mine had several problems. Marantz has some reliability problems that they need to resolve before I purchase more of their equipment, and I am a Marantz fan since the 1960's . I doubt this is a fair review of the 6200, because the unit I had at home had too many defects. The front left channel was distorting. The surround modes were not switching properly -- at times -- and required a power down to restore their proper function. The source buttons were not working properly -- at times I couldn't get the receiver to switch sources and at times a change from a digital source (e.g. CD) to an analog source (e.g. tuner or VCR) would generate only loud static or faint output and a great deal of distortion. When the receiver was working at medium volumes, the sound was fairly impressive. Lots of detail and clarity. Surround modes were impressive, but stereo performance was too bright and over done with poor imaging. Similar Products Used: Denon 2802 |

Strength:
Great sound, plenty of power. Good looks.
Weakness:
Reliability. Remote. Nice sounding unit, but had problems nearly right off the bat. My unit was an earlier model, purchased in December 2001. Problems include Not powering on occasion, having to pull plug then will power up. And recently, it has begun speeding thru all surround/DSP modes, without any input from me. This renders the unit useless. Sometimes does this right after powering on, sometimes doesn't do it at all and works normal for hours. 50/50 chance. (no warranty) In all, nice sounding unit....when it works. |
