Strength:
simple to use. Clean sound, great dsp processing.
Weakness:
should i even mention the remote..sheesh Try a home theater master mx-500 remote ($130 avg) I love the 6200 enough to purchase a 5200 for my parents. (IT HAD A BETTER REMOTE!) Very satisfied with the sr-6200. Extremely clean and natural sounding. At first I was afraid I would end up with the same problem a friend of mine is having with his Kenwood setup that does not pipe any bass to his main L/R speakers. It would seem that his Kenwood was designed solely for a small satellite/big sub setup. I have two huge cerwin vega mains with (AT15) 15" bass drivers. I was hoping I would not need a sub and thanks to Marantz I dont. The pro logic II processing is beutiful! But I recommend using a center channel that is as big as possible reaching down to at least 60hz or lower. I do wish for more bass management but it really depends on the original recording since this reciever does not add much if any artificial modification to the original. I pipe everything I have (sat, playstation, dvd, vcr) through it with s-video and it works great. You shant be dissappointed! Similar Products Used: pioneer, marantz sr-5200,kenwood, |

First unit had problem with video flashing,(It was the store display)The remote is not bad, but could be better. This is for the SR-5200.I had the same problem with the video flashing.I brought it back and they gave me a new one.I love this unit.It has plenty of power for just about any size room.It sounds great with anything that I have played with it,Even my 5.1 movies sound better than ever.If you are looking to buy a great mid-priced reciever for music or movies,THIS IS IT!! - Looks great - Took me just ten minutes to hook up - Very easy to use - Has sufficient power to drive my speakers - Mids are in your face! fantastic! - Bass is much tighter - Imaging and sound stage are very good and well defined.. great!
Weakness:
Yup i heard this too before i bought it, and ill reaffirm it... the remote SUCKS! Well but with the strengths .. who cares.. im gonna pick up a Marantz remote... WOW WOW WOW!!! Ive just got the SR-6200 yesterday, and WOW! The sound quality on this is way better than my previous receiver! My speakers sound better (i was gonna sell them, but now NO WAY!) I am using the NAD Cd521 (Cd Player), JBL LX-2005 (Fantastic speakers if u can get hold of them) JBL PB12 (EXPLOSIVE!), Harman Kardon DVD15 (nothing to shout about) and JBL N24s Surround (im very happy with them) Similar Products Used: Harman Kardan AVR5000 - It is a great receiver, however didnt quite have the power to drive my speakers.. id recommend it as an excellent entry level receiver.. User friendly, and simple.. |

The sound is incredible!!
Weakness:
Not to happy with the remote. The quality is ok, but it has a crappy design. I've got this puppy up and running with the Dv-6200 and must say i'm quite pleased so far. The sound is super and without any serious flaws. I paired my Psb image 7pt speakers with the Harman Kardon and the Denon at the same price and it didn't even come near in sound quality. This is a superious unit with a lot of punch. You get what you pay for.. Believe me!!! Similar Products Used: Marantz Dv-6200 Psb Image 7PT |

Strength:
Clarity, power, attractive case and front, 6.1 with DTS. 3yr warranty. Nice backside..well laid out.
Weakness:
manual, remote (gets better with practice) I purchased the 6200 mainly for music but also listen to DVDs. I compared to HK520, Denon 3802, Onkyo 700 and the Marantz 5200. All sounded great at the stores so I chose the Marantz 6200 based on the 3yr warranty. The 5200 is also very nice but the extra power in the 6200 appealed to me. I have Infinity Column II mains with a B&W LCR600 center and B&W 601 S2 in the rear. I also have a Velodyne CHT10 sub. I am extremely satisfied with the Marantz receiver. Each time I listen to music I'm more impressed. The clarity at all volumes is impressive. My wife and I listened to the Eagles DVD "Hell Freezes Over" in DTS and it seemed like each song sounded better than the song before it. I have my satellite tv and vcr running through the 6200 the reciever works flawlessly. WARNING!!!!!! Read the manual. Although it is poorly written and incomplete, you need to know that it is by design that you have to press the remote buttons twice to switch sources! I was ready to return the receiver until I finally figured this out. Poor remote but the Marantz 7200 has a much better one if you can afford the extra cost. The 6200 is nearly identical (105W per)with 6.1 capability. I love this receiver! Similar Products Used: Sony surround receiver, Onkyo 575, Kenwood. |

Strength:
A very truthful 2-channel reproduction. You get 100% of the original. Of course other stuff matters, but the HT digital processing stuff is no art nowadays. Good sound however is. That is why I rate the unit a 5, which is actually 4.6 but the site won’t allow me to enter that way. Some people would praise a variety of features, and they are important of course, but again, if not concerned for sound quality, why spend much on hi-fi? Why not go with a Sony or Technics, they have all the whistles. Among other pros, even bass-treble distribution. Plus, you can actually feel if not the promised 105 Watts per channel but at least 90 at work (however - see weaknesses)
Weakness:
An awful remote. I have read the reviews and I knew I shouldn’t expect a miracle remote, but I didn’t expect THAT! Looking for a worse design is pointless - it is the absolute winner. You will have to have the lights on in your room to do anything with it. It does not seem possible to learn the buttons by touch - they are small and located too close to each other. Be ready to shop for a decent remote, which (suppose you go for an RC1200) will cost you a US $200 extra. Perhaps you want to go for 7200 just to have a decent remote, multi-room capability and composite in/out a bonus. And the price difference is 300, so it is worth consideration. The instructions do not appeal. I didn't feel like reading it even though it is short. They also leave a lot of space for guessing. Initially when hooked up to a sat. receiver, I had to roll the volume to 10 (max is 0) to have a proper volume for a movie - and I am not a fan of loud sound, nor was the movie mute. However, exploring the menu of the receiver, I have found the output level of the speakers can be adjusted. After that, the problem with lack of volume is gone. However, as it so happens, now level of noise is much higher. But, for I have the unit for a week now and it is a good one. After toying around with Pioneer 810 pup and finding the sound pitiful and colorless, lacking bass desperately, I have got rid of it, altogether with Jamo 430s I used it with. I decided to upgrade to Marantz and have no regrets so far. Essentially I bought the unit for stereo, only 10% of my listening time I would spend on DVDs, so the quality of 2 channel stereo sound was a topic. I paired my 6200 with JM Lab Chorus 715 and here is the result. Similar Products Used: Pioneer 810 w/Jamo 430, JBL 130 |

Strength:
Colorless sound (especially under direct stereo mode). DTS playback is unrivaled. Price too features...nothing beats this!
Weakness:
Remote has crappy layout, but overall it is fine. Dolby Digital is quiter than DTS mode (but who cares with 105 watts a channel) Amplifier/Receiver has no faults. I shall make this short (shorter than others). This receiver is incredible. Under Direct sound mode, it creates the flattest (colorless) sound I have heard for this price. Nearly all frequencies are equall...meaning that the sound is unbelievable. Under stereo mode, it sounds great too. Using Dolby Digital, it sounds incredible. Using CD, the Marantz truly shows its potential. I never knew sound could be this amazing for this price. I have not found anything for the price that could compare to this receiver. Now, it isn't comparable to...say the super high end priced over 2,000 USA dollars (Rotel makes an UNFREEKING believable receiver). But for the price, it beats everything I have bought (and returned). This includes Denon, Yamaha, Onkyo, Harmon Kardon, NAD, Nakamichi, Sony ES, and JVC (who makes the best of the LOW end). Oh yes, I have bought and tried all of those mind you (and returned). So, if you want THE ULTIMATE buy when it comes to receivers (amps + preamps easily are the best...and I wish I could buy Marantz pre and amp equip.), get the Marantz SR-6200. Hell, if that is too expensive, I also tested the Sr-4200 and 5200, and both have similar sound quality (just not the quantity). Now if I was a rich man, I would look into the SR-9200. Now that must be an incredible receiver. Anyway, I highly recommend the SR-6200. You shant be dissapointed. This seems to be a great receiver so far. I purchased it new off ebay and have not had any problems. I haven't even cranked it yet and it still sounds too good. This receiver might be too good for a college student... Currently using: Marantz SR6200 4 - Infinity IL40's Infinity IL3c Sony 615 DVD player 10 gauge monster |

Strength:
sounds great when functioning properly
Weakness:
unit switches off at high output volume home theater bias with complicated, on-screen menu No A/B control bass tremble control only from remote (and it doesn't seem to work) Put me in the 'not a happy camper' category. In addition to the small annoyances like no A/B switch and no bass/treble control, I've been having a major problem with the unit automatically switching off at moderately high volumes. While I initially thought the problem to be heat related as it is in somewhat of a more confined space than recommended, I've now provided plenty of ventilaion such that heat build up is clearly not an issue, but the damn thing is still swiching off. Suffice it to say that this unit's going back to the dealer. |

Strength:
See above
Weakness:
1) Remote crumby (you know when I first bought the unit I thought great! A way to combine all remotes -Wrong!) 2) Documentation is slim. When running through all the connections I found the documentation poor. 3) Customer support lousy. I sent a couple of E-Mail notes to the Marantz site and never got a response. 4)No component connections Well, let me tell you that this is one nice unit. I looked around and decided on this unit ''''cause: 1)lots of features 2)power 3)connections 3)sound 4)value As mentioned I looked at other units Onkyo, Denon, & Yamaha. I decided on this unit for the above reasons. Lot''''s of hookups for all your needs. Lots of power (less distortion at higher sound levels). Sounds good in all modes! Finally for the features I think this unit is good value (has pro logic 2) I have not had any problems with sound as mentioned earlier. Although I do have a problem with lines running vertically on the left side of my TV when-ever I have the DVD going. (Strange because this problem happens at no other times...anyone else have these issues?) Similar Products Used: Mentioned above |
