Strength:

Design, build quality, sound, ease of use, DD & DTS,

Weakness:

Remote, missing digital inputs,

Before i bought this wonderfull peice of machinery i had an extremely crappy AIWA rack, which really sounded awful. so i decided to spend all my hard earned cash on a new stereo.

The dealer showed me the T760 and a Marantz SR-4000. The Marantz was cheaper and had more features like DSP processing or something like that, which i was never going to use anyway. After some listening to the recievers coupled with a NAD T550 DVD-player and a set of B&W speakers i decided to buty the T760 because of its detailed sound. It simply sounded more detailed, warm and open to my ears.
Not that it is something i usually do, but i have had the top off the reciever to look at the beautiful insides of it. Whow! All blue PCB's, almost no bad-sounding IC's (except for the A/D & D/A converters) and the power transformer is absolutely huge. That also explains the weight of 17 kg. Compared to the Marantz SR-4000 or a Yamaha, which weighs about 5-6 kg. less this reciever must be able to pull some really heavy payloads!

Another thing i really like is the simplicity of the T760. It does not feature alot of crappy soundfields and other "shiny" stuff on the front panel. The money has instead been used on the insides of this reciever.

A bad thing about it is the remote. The quality is all-right but it is not that functional. You have to point it at the reciever very precisely and especially the radio preset/tuning buttons. I don't know why, but it is really anoying.
Another thing is that there are too few digital inputs. Only two coaxial and one optical.

Other than the abovementioned i can't say anything else than that i really can recommend this reciever to anyone, who's looking for an extremely good-sounding unit with both DD & DTS at an affordable price.

Strength:

Hi Amps(43A), price, DTS (gives incredibly sound), very good sound.

Weakness:

A week humming noise in surrond mode. A BIG MISTAKE FROM NAD IS THAT THE SUB OUTPUT ISN´T ACTIVATED IN STEREO MODE AND IT´S A PAIN IN THE A** TO KEEP TURNING ON AND OFF THE CENTER AND SURROND CHANNELS ALL THE TIME!!!

The NAD T760 could be so great if they only let me use the sub in stereo mode... Otherwise, it´s just great!

Weakness:

What's up with the horrible hum when using dolby digial?

This is a nice receiver, good stereo, grain free, taut bass, good pro logic... but during quiet scenes of dobly digital (coax or fiber) the hum is terribly annoying. No one else notices this? And NAD could care a less as long as they have your CASH?

Strength:

Everything. :-)

Weakness:

Your knees will turned into jello when paired with B&W speakers with the new tube loaded tweeter.

For those who hear hum coming out:-

I never hear any hum or noise from my NAD T760.
But I do connected all my components to a computer multi-input line filter/adaptor ($30USD or so, from local computer parts shop.)

Even my NAD PP1 phono preamp does not generate any noise.

The computer power strip might be the cure.

The NAD T760 and B&W 603S-2 loudspeakers keep getting better as both being run-in. Now both got about 50 hours of use, soundstage has open up even futher and smoother. It was very good to begin with.

LOVE THIS COMBO MORE AND MORE EVERYDAY. :-)

Just go buy it if you're on the market for new gears.

Music Does Sound REALLY GOOD with this A/V receiver.

Don't thumbs down A/V receiver just yet, because all you've been using, or audited are the mass marketed J brands.

This NAD T760 is a killer for BOTH music and movies. It's DTS and DD, and the ISC and EARS are real killers. It'll blows most other amps/receivers in the $2000USD range into outer space and into the blackhole before breakfast! :-)

Hey Greg have you tried listening to DD with the tone controls set at 12 o'clock? Most importantly the bass controller. I have noticed that a hum/whine appears when I turned the bass up, and the hum got worse the more the bass was turned up. With the tone controls set at zero (12 o'clock) the hum dissappeared. This isn't a problem for me since I find the sound perfect as it is.

Strength:

Includes all the important features that you need in an A/V Receiver. Sounds excellent in both stereo and surround modes.

Weakness:

Primitive looks, lack of power (5 X 60W RMS).

I had used a Kenwood (KRV-8070, 3X100W + 2X50W) Dolby Pro-logic A/V receiver for over 5 years which was okay for surrond but could not meet my expectations for stereo listening. I bought this NAD product in Singapore in early June after going through a thorough on-line search for an affordable A/V receiver that would also sound good in stereo mode. The other components in my setup are :

Power Amp : NAD 216 THX
DVD Player : Pioneer 535K
LD Player : Pioneer (don't remember the model)
Cassette Deck : Nakamichi CR-1
Front Speakers: AE Aegis Three
Centre Speaker: AE Aegis Centre
Rear Speakers : AE Aegis Compact
Powered Sub : AE Aegis Sub

I am using the NAD 216 THX (2X125W) power amp to drive the front speakers, while NAD T760 powers the centre and rear speakers. I went for the power amp as the NAD T760 simply lacks the power to drive the AE Aegis Three speakers for loud stereo listening as well as for action movies in DD format. The NAD combination matches perfectly with the AE speaker package reproducing high quality sound at an affordable price.

I highly recommend NAD T760 for people looking for a mid-range A/V receiver for a small-room setup.

Strength:

Stereo Mode. Smooth and full sound. Bass. Simple design.

Weakness:

Minor, possibly the quirky remote.

Stereo mode is tops. Excellent smooth and full sound. Drives speakers nicely with no strain or brightness. Sound is warm and rich. No irritating thinness or fatiguing treble. Bass has good punch and nice weight. Probably one of the best receivers for a stereo and HT combo. (especially for features included and price)

Dolby Digital is wonderful. Dialogue is clear and soundtracks are musical. Unlike other HT receivers the highs aren't over cooked.

ProLogic is good.

EARS mode is nice for sports.

Good sized unit. Not too big.

Minor flaw: Doesn't remember the surround mode per audio source. So you have to switch it manually. No big deal.

Strength:

Awesome sound quality

Weakness:

None so far

I bought this receiver a month ago for $710 shipped. Let me just say so far I'm very, very impressed. I've had the same pair of Cerwin Vega speakers for about 5 years now, and I have never heard them sound this good. I've had these speakers hooked up to many different receivers and with the NAD, there is absolutely no comparison. I can't comment on the subwoofer issue because I don't own one, but in my honest opinion... there is no better sounding receiver for under $1000.

Strength:

Lots of power, controlled bass, excellent FM reception.

Weakness:

Only one optical input, no digital outputs.

This replaces my 20 year old NAD 7020, which still sounds good when compared to most receivers, I only purchased as the 7020 knobs are failing and the tuner will not hold the station for more than 20 minutes without readjusting. Partnered it up with a T550 and my 10 year old TDL Monitor 1s in stereo mode. Stereo mode is awesome, even in DVD, as I realised after the Matrix first scene, if you turn it up you dont need 5.1 as the sound seems to come from everywhere! No need for a subwoofer with the TDLs anyway. All in all very pleased.
