Strength:

Has preamp outs for all channels

Weakness:

The amps and preamps and lack of useful features.

The amps and even the preamp in this thing are worse than a cheap walkman, the pits. The sound was so horrible it made me want to throw my speakers out the window and vote republican. I have ordered a Sherwood with preamp outputs for all channels, I hope it has a decent preamp. I have bought some vintage big Pioneer SX series and Sansui receivers to drive my loudspeakers. I already have the old amps and they sound positively marvelous. The JVC was actually very good for movies, had great sound and great features that were easy to use by the remote. The stupid NAD made you use a monitor to be able to make a couple of stupid choices for very limited adjustments. I'll never buy another NAD product. Any company that ever puts out such a bad product has an extremely low opinion of the consumer and is out to fleece the easily fooled.

Strength:

Overall sound quality, DTS and Dolby Digital, Looks.

Weakness:

Remote control, 'buzzing' in DD with full base + treble

This amp blew away the competition, I nearly brought the sony, but luckily this amp caught my eye, and after a five min. audition I took it home.
The sound quality is outstanding, and DTS is overwhelmingly good. Stereo mode with CD's is also highly impressive.
However the only fault is the crappy remote control and the buzzing in DD mode when the base knob is turned right up.

Strength:

Huge soundstage, crunching quick low bass, detailed midrange.

Weakness:

Different (european) sound many americans may have trouble getting used to after being taken over by the japanese.

Acutally I have one on back order and should get one in less than two weeks. Review of sound is based on owning some NAD separates. I will update later on this particular unit, but I am 99% sure it will have a very similar sound.

Frederik in Sweden, How did you find such a low price? The one I'm getting is refurbished. We are brainwashed that everything costs triple US prices in europe. Do you work for Saab aerospace?

Strength:

Best sound for the money.

Weakness:

Finicky remote (especially when changing FM presets, even with a universal remote) Anybody else have this problem?

Used this unit for awhile now, and I can still recommend it.

About the 'no sub in Stereo mode' problem: I'm confused guys, because my powered sub works loud & clear when I go into stereo mode on the T760 (sub connected to 'sub out' jack, all speakers (C, Main, Surround) configured to 'Large').

My Polk sub allows me to adjust the crossover point, and I match up my PSB Stratus' 40 Hz roll-off point with this setting on the Sub. Sounds wayyyy nice when the music has the ultra-low bass there (and I don't mean just with dance-club music - get a well-recorded classical CD and listen to several string basses in unison).

Anyway, here's a neat trick that will tell you the firmware that your T-760 is running:

Hit these buttons simultaneously: Display, 5.1 Input & Video 5. The display will show your version of firmware (my unit has version 'SND 1.07', another unit I checked had 'SND 1.34'). Hit any key to return to normal display.

I suspect my rather early version of f/w might explain why my sub out works in stereo mode - much of how the T-760 operates is controlled in this code. Why would NAD opt to shut the sub out off while in Stereo? I don't know, but even my company does funny things sometimes. Any ideas? Also, maybe the finicky remote problems mentioned here can be fixed by improved firmware.

There are a few other 'secret' key strokes. If you want to know, just mail me.

The amp section in this unit also uses all discrete transistors, an extreme rarity in units of it's price range. I think this is a major element in NAD's unique, kickin' sound (why don't they advertise that they do such an honourable thing?). Sony ES's use discetes in the final output before speakers, but not before that.

And for all you geeks out there (you know who you are), the host processor and DSP on this unit are re-programmable/upgradeable via Flash or EPROM changes. The processors are also well-documented (email me for more info, with some help, maybe we could have some fun with this unit).

I don't want to spill all the beans in this public forum, but I think it would be a great idea for NAD to make the firmware for this unit 'open source'...

Strength:

Easy to use, low price!

Weakness:

May take a bit long time to recognize the incoming sound format.

I purchased this a/v-reciever for a couple of weeks ago and replaced an old pioneer that didnt cut when it came to DD, DTS movies.

I must say that this reciever destroys everything in its pricerange (480$ or 4700 sek)! Clean and fairly strong sound for the price. What i dont like with it is if you switch beetween to inputs it takes about 3-4 seconds before you get any sound (it autodetects the soundformat), it can be a bit anoying when you switch quickly beetween the different inputs. Besides that everything has been fine, easy to configure and no silly modes like "hall, concert"

I can easily recommend this to anyone looking for a nicesounding a/v-reciever. Do i have to say that the stereo-performance is top notch?!?

I have always been a fan of NAD and the T760 does not let me down. The sound, when mated to my Klipsch rf-3's, is just amazing. I would highly recommend for any would-be consumer.

Upgrade Info on NAD T761. Improvement over T760!

Weakness:

Non-forgiving remote when it comes to "aim".

The T761 is an upgrade to the short-lived T760. Power has been increased from 60 watts per to 80 watts. This equals better bass response from towers... but depth of sound seems a little different? (ie not as deep). Bass management has been improved... no more presets! Listen to your sub in stereo without going through several on-screen menus. More inputs/outputs on the back, gold connections have been added, and there's an s-video input now included on the front panel. You also get more buttons on the front to do most operations without the remote... which still kinda sucks. By the way... this new model was supposed to come with a "learning remote", so you could operate your NAD DVD player. However... it is currently shipping with the same T760 remote... it's even marked "T760". Not sure on the retail price... I traded in my T760 plus $500.

Strength:

Good imaging and wonderful bass, especially on KEF Q55 speakers. One of the best stereo/HT receivers of late for budget buyers. Why go for Yamaha/Denon amps when this is around!

Weakness:

Did a one for one comparision with the 770. When compared to the NAD t770 which is 10W lesser, the 760 tends to pale. There's less punch and drive in home theater and music seems to have a smaller sounstage. I guess for DTS capability, something must give.

I've heard this in the showroom. This is an excellent machine for the money and beats the competition handily. It is unfortunate that NAD has decided not to introduce an AC3/DTS receiver to better its flagship t770. The t770 blows the 760 out of the water, but the 760 is a better budget option for smaller HT set ups. As usual, stereo is of top notch quality. The 760 will not be humbled and is as good as a mid-range integrated receiver. All the NAD attributes like imaging, expansive soundstage and warm smooth sound are all there. I would opt for the 770 for performance reasons because DTS is not important to me. But if you're looking for an affordable DTS receiver with excellent stereo reporduction than this is it.

Strength:

Incredibly easy to use. Exceptional imaging in both stereo and surround modes. Great value.

Weakness:

None

A wonderful addition to the NAD line. The T760 receiver is a receiver that does it all VERY well and at a great price. Although at first glance the NAD seems underpowered at 60W a channel. But, the receiver packs a punch and outperformed many higher power-rated receivers that I had audtioned. It's amazingly simple and intuitive to use. The T760 is simply a well thought out receiver with impressive sound and design qualities. I would, without a doubt, recommend it to anyone in the market for a new surround receiver.

Sound in stereo mode, chanel separation in dolby digital and DTS

Weakness:

remote a litle poor

This receirer is great.
It is not easy to find a HT amplifier that does good work also in stereo mode.NAD does it.
In DD or DTS its also a very good amplifier.Ok, it doesn't do the same noise like japanese big guys, but if you like noise you shuldn't be here.
With NAD T760 you will see movies with a great chanel separation and with lot of quality. And if you need power, 60W X 5 is more than you need to destroy your apartment.
I have listen lots of Receivers:onkyo 575,676 Yamaha 795, Denon 3300 sony 930.
I could spend a litle more money but i bought NAD.I think this explains all.
