I just read the review from Brad , Audio Enthusiast from Pittsburgh, PA. I am also looking to buy the Tx-Ds575 for the same reasons he listed. I got the same story from Bestpriceaudiovideo.com as he did that there was a new model 575x coming out in April. I called several other vendors and they new nothing of the 575x model to be released. I call Onkyo directly and the representative that I spoke to said he was unaware of any change in the 575. He also verified that with the sales department. The rep from Onkyo said that changes like that would usually be made in an entirely new model.
I wonder if Bestpriceaudiovideo.com has some inside info or they have just got bad information.
I am now also waiting to buy.
I know this is not a forum to discuss product that I have no first hand use I felt I needed to pass this information on.

Strength:

Easy set-up, great sound, nice remote.

Weakness:

minute hiss

I'm no audio expert but there is "hiss" from my reciever. At a volume of 1, it is noticable if you are near the speaker. I spoke to a manager at Onkyo and I was told that "yes....there is a noise problem with some recievers." I was told that the fix is really minor and that it involves something with a ground loop. I was told that not all of these recievers have the problem and that if I exchanged it, I probably wouldn't get a noisy one. Onkyo is putting out a service call on affected recievers. This is my second reciever. I took the first one that I bought back to Circuit City and exchanged it. The first reciever had "loud" hiss. The new one has really minute hiss. I was also told, by an Onkyo company tech, that some American and Canadian speakers contribute to the problem....yeah right!....or maybe it is possible...i don't know. Overall, I am very pleased with my reciever. The slight hiss is nothing to really complain about. You don't hear it unless you have your ear on the speaker and there's no input.

Strength:

Feature list, quality, sound

Weakness:

No Svideo, no onscreen display

This is an excellent unit, mine has no audible hiss at either full volume or zero volume. I have tried to make it hiss without success. Excellent sounding, highly configurable, high quality receiver with ample power for my fairly large listening room. In testing it just seems to do everything well. I haven't tested it out on any really dynamic movies as my collection is all concert DVDs and I don't have any Wow! type movies right now but in both DTS and Dolby Digital my concert DVDs are superb and I am using the DS575s DAC for my CDS with great results, highly satisified. I can't give a product a 5 that has no onscreen display or Svideo, but I can certainly give it a 5 for value, IMO the best under 500 dollar DD/DTS reciever available. I dont know if this makes any difference but the model number on the box says TX-DS575(B).

Strength:

Great clear sound, Quality construction, DTS, Lucasfilm Cinema Re-EQ, Learning Remote, usefull DPS's

Weakness:

none

I have the receiver now for 2 weeks and I'm still very impressed. Wonderful clear sound in stereo mode (with no noticeable hiss) and usefull DSP's (not so much as Sony and Yamaha offers, but you won't need them all). I can't say how it works in Dolby Digital and DTS because I have no DVD-Player at this time, but it must even sound better than Dolby Pro Logic, and that sounds already great.
FM and Phono sounds also excellent. Remote does work well, especially the joystick-option.

The receiver looks quite good and makes a very solid and qualitative impression. In Austria you get this receiver with 3 years warranty, which underlines the quality aspect. The europe model has also s-video inputs (in conrast to the us-model).

I recommend this receiver to everybody who is interested in awesome sound in stereo with the option to get also great home cinema sound.
5 stars for the value and also 5 stars overall (refering to the price range).

Strength:

Clarity/precision of output, neutrality of output and 5-channel stereo

Weakness:

Remote is a little cumbersome

What a difference a real A/V receiver makes! I used a JVC previously which produced a very cluttered sound with little to know sonic accuracy. This receiver sounds so natural and open! Itis a joy to listen to in regular 2- Channel Stereo and, to my suprise, 5-channel stereo as well. I have tried listening to music in 5-channel surround sound on other receivers, but usually they force you to utilize a soundfield to do this. The onkyo doesn't. The receiver allows you to listen to 5-channel stereo with no sound field to color the output. Its a very nice function. I love the receiver thus far and would recommend it to anyone willing to listen. I have it paired with Paradigm Mini-monitors up front and Titans in the back with a PDR-10 Sub. Finally, if you are looking to purchase this unit, buy it at Best Price Audio Video (www.bestpriceaudiovideo.com). I got mine for $369 + 17 shipping and it was delivered in 48 hours. They are wonderful to deal with.

Strength:

Ease of use receiver and insturction manual. Great clean sound reproduction.

Weakness:

Hard to program remote.

I got the Onkyo TX-DS575, because Cambridge Soundworks had a demo that looked brand new for 10% off and I couldn't afford the more expensive Marantz SR-780 receiver. I used to own a Carver 900, which I couldn't use with a surround sound system, since it is over 12 years old and they didn't even have Dolby Pro Logic back then. The Onkyo is a very clean sounding receiver with lots of power at a reported 100 watts per channel. It compares in sound quality to my Carver, which also was a clean sounding receiver. It doesn't distort at high volumnes. The manual was very easy to read and the receiver itself is easy to program, but I had lots of problems trying to figure out how to program the remote to control other pieces of my system (JVC-DVD, Sony-TV, Denon-CD, Mitsubishi-VCR, Nakamichi-Tape deck.). I still haven't figured it out yet. Also, the receiver isn't all that good looking either, but it is simple to use and see all the features; and what features, Dobly Digital Surround, DTS and ReQ, the poor man's version of THX all for about $500. Highly recommended for the budget minded music/video lover.

Strength:

Features, sound quality, looks.

Weakness:

Not enough optical outputs, S-Video, maybe some more DSP's

I just bought this from CC and paid $475, which I think is a little high but they gave me a huge discount on the speakers I bought with it. It sounds really nice and has enough power but I wish the controls were a little more user friendly. There were Sony's and Technics that cost more than this Onkyo and I don't think they're near the quality of this. I would say buy it but buy it online and save $100.

Strength:

5 channel stereo, DTS

Weakness:

The only weakness is the slight hiss which can only be heard at an extremely low volume.

I initially purchased this product a few days ago. The first night I listened to the Eagles in DTS and enjoyed it thoroughly. The next day I remembered that some reviewers have complained of a hiss in this unit so I decided to check it out. Yes there is a hiss in the Onkyo 575 (I never noticed it that first night). At a volume of "zero" there is none but once you turn it up to "one" you hear a slight hiss. You (or should I say I) can only hear it when you are fairly close to the speaker. It does not get worse as you turn the volume up. With a movie or music playing you cannot hear it. Since I paid quite a bit for this unit at CC I wanted to make sure I didn't get a defective unit so I returned it a few days later to get another one. It behaved in exactly the same manner. It makes me wonder if most receivers have a certain amount of hiss. By the way I replaced an Onkyo 474 with this unit (my 474 didn't have DTS). I decided to also test the 474 and to my surprise there is also a slght hiss which I never noticed before. I am not an Onkyo basher as some of the other reviewers comments have implied about negative reviews involving this hiss. I loved my 474 and I will keep my 575. I am happy with all of the other features and this is a good unit for the money. Do I wish there is no hiss? - yes. Is it worth exchanging the unit for a JVC, Kenwood or Sony? - probably not.

Yeah! Believe what Peter says... Just go down to Joe Blows electronic store... And speak with the sales Geek that all he cares about is getting ALL of Peters $$$. Yeah, all these Hiss. You gotta Dig Deeper Peter! Where is that VISA???? Come on Peter I own one of these reveivers...

Foks, Be careful about post's where the first sentence is.. I went down to Radio Crap Found the most Unintelligent sales rep on the floor and Tested some of the crapiest CD's I've ever heard on some of these DEMO unit's. ... Sheesh.. I won't even mention about the quality of speaker wire or Speakers that were used... But... sorry.. These kind of posts should be deleted out of the system. This is suppose to be a review ... Where you buy the equipment and install it in your home after reading the manual several times and placing the speakers back and forth hundreds of times for the best sound. Then after 2 - 3 weeks of tweeking you should post a message. This is to make up for Petes POST.
