Strength:
Very solid construction, good remote, very good quality.
Weakness:
Few DSPs. No mic input. I have this product only for a week. To be honest, I don't know Onkyo and I would easily choose Pioneer 3 months ago if I have to make a choice then. I actually almost bought a 509S have I not search for reviews on the net and came across with Audioreview.com. The comments influenced me when I made my decision. I did a lot of technical research. I cannot say that I am ignorant with audio technology since I worked in a sound system setup provider for years so I know what I'm talking about and I have ears which can distinguish between a good sound and a crap one. My decision to choose Onkyo are: |

Strength:
5 channel stereo, easy set-up, assignable digital inputs, a true 70x5 in power, s-video switching, binding posts, large heat sink and capacitors, multi-channel input for future outboard processor, Dolby-Digital and DTS processor, the amount of juice in this machine is under rated
Weakness:
the remote is the only weakness I can see with this product, in order for Onkyo to bring a great machine at a great price they had to cut back on a few items like the remote and the tuner, Onkyo for years have never had a great remote but they have always put out great products year in and year out This amp is perfect for my 15X12 room, I will never buy any other product except Onkyo- even my stereo amp is from Onkyo (8511), My next step one day will be to go for 7.1 digital sorround EX which is in the Onkyo 989 (that receiver will probably be my last because it has a computer chip built in it capable of Onkyo downloading any sorround format that will be used in the future ($3000.00 is usually the going rate on that receiver) Similar Products Used: Sony 945- what a awful machine full of over rated power and too much flash and not enought quality |

Strength:
Dolby Digital, Clean Sound
Weakness:
Lack of power, the remote It has great sound from my Onkyo DVD 6 disk. The 5.1 channel sound in dolby digital is extreme. The only problems I have is that you need to turn the volume up pretty high to get the best sound out of it. I think I'm going to get speaker with a high Db rating to combat this though. The other is the remote. It is not very well thought out. It does do what it advertises but it take a couple days to master. As far as music goes, it seem to have good sound yet it does lack the punch of some of the other receivers I've heard. If your not planing on having a sub woofer or two you may want to go with something else. For the price I'd say I got a decent deal. I would recommend this receiver as great for DVD 5.1 yet only good for music. I've found the solution for me is that I have two 200 watt subs hooked up to it for awesome bass. The high and mid sound ok as is,but I'm planning on getting some highly efficent mains center and surronds. This should take care of any lack of power problems. Overall the sound is clean and clear, no hiss. The power is a little shy(yet hopefully it is my speakers), the feature are average for the price. Happy for the most part. Strength:
Clean, Crisp Sound, Remote, 5-ch stereo, home theater... EVERYTHING!
Weakness:
none This is a post up review to one that i made in september, when i first got the receiver. Nothing has gone wrong! Performs great... i finally got a dvd player to go with it (aiwa xd-dv370), only to realize that i love the receiver even more. Dolby Digital sounds great... best i've ever heard! DTS sounds even better. Very accurate reproduction. I can turn it up all the way... no distortion, and it stays cool! Some hot movies to check out with out are Jurassic Park (DTS version), the Patriot, The Green Mile, The Matrix, and Armageddon. For those of you who own it, set all your speakers to large except the surrounds. Check my other review in Sept. or email me: cmsx@home.com with questions. What's up with the tx-ds575x not being able to play DTS movies with the Cinema Re-Q feature turned on? I get a weird skipping noise from time to time. |

Strength:
Clean Sound in DTS, DD, DPL
Weakness:
None for this price range I purchased the Onkyo TX-DS575X receiver on EBay from Best Price Audio Video. This one is a refurb but so far so good - it came with a year warranty from Onkyo. The receiver sounds incredible in DTS and very good in Dolby Digital. The 5-Channel Stereo mode is really quite useful when playing back non DD/DTS audio. The remote is a lot better than the one I had with my old receiver (HK AVR-75). Similar Products Used: Harmon Kardon AVR-75 |
