Just received this unit from Oade Brothers and it is great. I was originally looking at the 333ES and this was a much better buy for the performance.
Looking for a nice DVD player that doesn't have the lip sync problems everyone is talking about. My question is, does the remote for this receiver (assuming same as 333ES, and DE935 as well) control pioneer DVD players?

Awesome Sound...But I need assistance from others
How should the DB930 be configured to automatically identify DD or DTS signals from a Sony 330 DVD player.

I tried the Eagles Live CD, which ncludes a DTS soundtrack. When I try to play the DVD it tells me it requires a DTS DVD and Receiver, and then STOPS!

I want to Experience DVD DTS...help me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All I can say about this receiver is buy it if you are in the market for great sound at an excellent price. After having ordered my strde935 from my local audio store, the wait was on. I was waiting for my receiver to come in for about a month when I was told about the strdb930 model. I then started my internet search to find out about this new model. To my surprise I found this sight and read the reviews for the 935 first. To my dissapointment I read about all of the problems that have plagued this unit. Then i looked up the db930, and spent about an hour reading all of the reviews from people that had previously owned the 935. To my surprise everyone seemed to love this receiver. So i then called my audio store to see if I could swap out for the new db930. I was in luck, they had the new model comming in already. Two days later I had the 930. After carefully reading all the manuals and going back and forth to the store for monster cables, I finally had it connected to my other componets. The sound is fantastic. I can't tell you enough , about how pleased I am with this receiver. Spend the time to make the right connections and use high quality cables, this is a must!! I currently have the STRDB930 connected wit hthe following equipment:
Sony STRDB930 Receiver
Sony 53XBR200 TV
Sony S550D DVD Player
Sony CDPCX300 CD Changer
Sony SLV799 VCR
Polk RT1000 Powered Main Speakers
Polk CS400 Center Speaker
Polk FX500 Surround Speakers
Polk PSW650 Sub

This makes my new 24' x 30' room addition rock when I play my cds and dvd!!! I just love this receiver. What else is there to say. There is only one minor problem that I ran into. Its really not a problem , but being the way I am about my system, i was a little dissapointed that there is not a digital input for the cd player. You are able to use the input for the mini disk and it works fine except you have to make the receiver think you are using a md player. Othe rthan that ,it great. As i said for most people this is no problem, i just hooked it up to the correct input for the cd using high quality rca cable. I came to find out later that the didital output on the cd is to hook up to a md player to make true digital copys not for an output to a receiver. I any one has any questions about any of my componets , please feel free to email me. I will be glad to give you my honest opinion about my expericence with them.

Strength:

Lots of Power,DD&DTS,good DSP modes.

Weakness:

None

Iam using this receiver for about Nine Months, and i have to say that this machine is very good.
It Has lots of Power, with 110 w you will blow your house in seconds.I rarely use to put the Knob in level 4 because above that my glasses start to shake.
The Sound Quality in DD and DTS is incridble, in Stereo mode you wont be disapointed too.The remote is not too bad and if you learn to use it you will start to love it.
There is now a new model, the STR DB-940, so i think you can get the STR DB-930 with less money.Dont hesitate, Buy it! You Dont need to spend lots of money in NAD or another similar product to have good sound and quality.

Strength:

Superb sound output.

Weakness:

Slow responce from remote control but since it's a two way remote ... give it a chance

good amp for the price paid. similar to strdb940 except that 930 doesnt have OSD, smaller lcd screen on remote and has 10 watt less.. but both has deep bass and clear treble.
That's all. cheers

Clean Power, affordable, ES Look and build quality, tons of features, nice set uf inputs/outputs, second audio source, and much more

Weakness:

Remote, Sony tech support, Sony's lack of info on their web site about this unit

Here I am again, 8 months after I have purchased this unit from onecall.com for $429 and I have never had a single problem with it. It is an excellent receiver for the money! I won't leave a lengthy review as I have done so already, however, I have some suggestions:

The remote does lack robustness, so to get around this buy a universal remote. No not the 20 dollar K-mart one but a Phillips Pronto, or Microsoft/HK. Check out http://www.remotecentral.com for complete reviews of most high end remotes out there. I purchased a Phillips Pronto on EBAY for $270 (yes it is expensive, but if you don't know what this remote can do please check out http://www.pronto.philips.com for details) With the push of one button on the remote's touch screen I can turn on my DB-930, Sony 550 DVD, Sony XBR, switch the receiver to DVD input and switch the TV to Video 4 (composite inputs) You can not aceive this functionality with the stock DB-930 remote. So check it out, you'll like what you see.

Pictures of my home theater and scanned specs from the DB-930's manual can be found at http://www.incollingo.com/db930.htm

Strength:

Plenty of clean power, decent remote, easy to use, multi-room, parametric EQ. Definately worth $50-$100 more than str-db830. Paid $437 and onecall and got in two days!!

Weakness:

Would be nice to have a learning remote - my only complaint!

Best darn receiver for the money

Weakness:

Display hard to see, no tape monitor loop, manuals

I purchased this receiver based on what I've read on this forum, and on information from audio magazines. It has just about everything that a home theater would need for great sound, but I feel it is missing a vital feature that used to be standard in most older receivers / integrated amplifiers: a tape monitor loop. I've had this receiver for about a month and have continually tweaked the tone controls, but I cannot get decent sound. The sound is muddy, lacks bass and the highs are irritatingly harsh. I know most of the problem stems from my speakers, which are a pair of old Bose 501 speakers (the ones with the ten inch woofers, circa 1977) and three Bose 301's. I've used an AudioControl C-101 equalizer connected through the tape monitor loop on my old pro-logic receiver to smooth out the response and my old speakers sounded great. The upper bass was tight and well defined. Highs were crystal clear with no listener fatigue even after long periods. Midrange was warm and clean. It was just the way I liked it. I know most purists will say that an equalizer is evil and should be avoided at all costs, but I think that no matter what the quality of your system, the sound can be dramatically improved by the addition of an equalizer / analyzer. If my old speakers can be made to sound great, I can imagine how new speakers will sound with a little equalization. There is such a dramatic difference that I've decided to return my Sony DB930 and trade up to a Denon AVR 3300, which does have a tape monitor loop. Bottom line: if you use an equalizer, don't buy a receiver unless it has a tape monitor. I'll be upgrading my speakers later this year to either Definitive Techs BP2002's, or B&W's.
My system currently consists of a Sony Wega KV36FV1 36"flat screen television, Sony S500D DVD player, Sony STR-DB930 receiver, AudioControl C-101 equalizer, Denon DCD-1500 CD player, Sony Hi-Fi VCR, pair of Bose 501's as fronts, three Bose 301's as surrounds and center channel, Definitive Tech PF15TL subwoofer, all connected with Monster Cable and Audioquest interconnects, and protected by MonsterCable HTS1000 surge protector.
I'm giving a 3 star rating due to lack of a tape monitor, crappy owners manual, and a terrible remote.

Strength:

Excellent Price, Great Quality* (see below - Help!!!)

Weakness:

Possibly the remote

I purchased this unit about 1 month ago. I love its looks, build, overall sound quality, except for 1 issue that I have not resolved yet. Other STR-DB930 owners, please email (patti_clark@hotmail.com) me if you have any suggestions. Here is the problem:

On certain dialoge sequences, there is a noticeable buzz/crackling sound. It does not matter if the volume is high or low. It is always there in the same spot and can be duplicated every time. It is most noticeable on mid-range sounds.

I thought at first it may be my center channel, but I tried 2 channel stereo and the sound is still present. For this reason, I have not tried different speakers. My speakers are 6 ohm Infinity Delta 60's.

I still give this unit 5 stars because I think I may just have a defective unit. I am going to bring my center channel over to my friends house to try on his system.

Thanks
