Just bought a str-de725 2 weeks ago. I am very much satisfied with it's performance. I have a pair of Infinity 3000P speakers rated at 750w per with matching bookshelf speakers rated at 125w per. I was blown away by the awesome sound when turned up halfway on cd playback. The sound was so much cleaner and powerful than my 8 yr old Mitsubishi MAV1 rated at 200w per. Clean sound no voice coil clapping, no high end distortion. I paid $329 for mine at Circuit City in Richmond. I think that's a very good deal for this receiver. Only one drawback. The flip top remote kind of sucks. But is easily forgiven when you turn up the volume. |

str-de725=== I have notice that there are not too many sites that support the sony str-de725. Many of the sites that sell or have any sony products dont have it as a sale item? SONY web site dosn't even have the str-de725? WHY?? Maybe it's because it has most of the str-de825 features for less the price? But who cares! All I know is that this a/v reciever has been one of the best inexpensive recievers in the market! I have basiclly every type of audio and video hooked up to it and it still stands strong! So all of you str-de725 believers keep on pushing your recievers to the limit they are worth the money and they do alot more than some of those high priced recievers that do the same thing the str-de725 dose!! |

Weakness:
none I have been using this receiver for over 2 years now with no problems. It has been part of my Sony HT system and it has done a good job. Clear highs, great mids, and awesome lows (powered sub recommended). Built in EQ is great. |

I thought I'd start a new listing for this receiver. There were a few listings under the 715. I just brought the thing home today replacing my St990, which has served me well. The reciever sounded great on music and Video's. I have Paradigm 5SE's for mains and a Paradigm Sub along with RadioShack 7Av's for Center and surround. I obviously cannot comment on how it will last but I believe these thing break in the firast few weeks or last for years. i have previously been pleased with Sony Receivers and CD changers. Loved a lot of the features and DSP modes but don't like the Remote much. My Universal 8000 works well with it though. I'm ready for DVD now and I think I'll wait a few months and see what the prices do. I'll probably borrow one just to see what the fuss is about. Apologizies to the Golden Ears but I'm pretty pleased. |

I agree with the other reviewers completely. It's obvious that more expensive amplification would make my sz's sound better, but being one who's not monetarily endowed, it'll do just fine. I do like the speaker setup options & a few of the dsp modes- if you tweak them-but the flip up tricorder remote is somewhat annoying, again echoing the other reviews. By the way, does anyone know the highpass-lowpass frequency? |

Strength:
Not bad for entry level. Easy to use.
Weakness:
Just took a crap. Think a capacitor blew. Smelled something burning. Didn't even have it past 1 on the volume dial. Flashed the word "protector", and that was it. Well this blows. After 2 stinkin years in took a dump. Guess I outta spend some money and get something that is gonna stay working. Haven't been real lucky with Sony lately. Good solid receiver. No problems with this unit in a year.
Weakness:
Remote is like a tricorder. To many buttons. Great for first time Home Theater users. |

Strength:
low price, ergonomics, features, reliability, plenty of power.
Weakness:
none STR-DE725 was my first Dolby Digital Receiver, and was a great entry model. DD Surround sounded really good for the price, and was ok for music. Similar Products Used: onkyo, yamaha |

Strength:
Solid construction, plenty of power to supply all of your audio and video needs and a variety of DsP modes..
Weakness:
really none it gets very hot quickly and some people have complained about the remote it doesn't bother me any.. I have put the 725 through many of tests whether Im playing my video games or pumping the The Rock on dvd or cd's it continues to shine. It has a ac-3 decoder built in instead of dts but you really can't tell the difference.Another cool option with receiver is you can adjust the height and distances of your speakers with the 725 with really helps when creating the best soundfield possible. I know there are better receivers out there with all the extra options out there but as far as performane wise you can't knock this baby... To bad Sony discontinued it! An excellent choice for that bang for your buck... Similar Products Used: This was my first Digital receiver |
