Strength:
Reasonable Price, Unit allows you to tweak lots of settings
Weakness:
Poor Designed Remote Works as advertised, I have not encountered any problems whatsoever. Unit does run a little hot, but has never shut down. Do not put any other component on top of it, and you should have no heat problems. |

Strength:
Very strong output,many features,Dolby D & DTS,pefect price
Weakness:
Gets too hot,Remote, noisy I've had this receiver for about 4 months never had a problem with the unit and still sounds strong.Previously owned a sony STR-DE725 and was also a great receiver. The STR-DE835 is not a Yamaha or a Denon but one thing to remember is that you pay half the price of one of those over priced receiver, you might not get the 100% quality from a Sony receiver but it sure as hell close. I still can't see myself spending $1,000 on a receiver.Anyway I highly recommend this receiver to anyone that wants too be up to date with DD & DTS, It's some thing everyone should try out Similar Products Used: STR-DE725 |

Strength:
Great dts sound blows my living room away.
Weakness:
The remote sucks. Compatibility problems with other Sony devices. I recently decided to upgrade my system for dts sound. I already owned an RCA 52 in projection television with s video input. I purchased the Sony SatA50 receiver with the s video out and the optical connection out. In order to have my s video and optical audio at the same time i had to hook it up to the dvd in port because the tv/sat port doesn't have an s video input. This works ok and gives me the dts sound and s video quality but... i had no place to hook up my dvd player, without experiencing the same problem. If you truly want the best video and audio inputs you are better off spending the extra $200.00 and getting the Sony STR-DB930 which has an s video input for satellite, dvd, and vcr, with optical inputs for sat and dvd. If your going to spend the money and not mortgage the house this is the way to go. |

Strength:
Great Power, Killer Sound Fields, and a great price at Onecall $313
Weakness:
NONE I don't know where these people are getting there info! Maybe, there mistaking SANYO for SONY,or they just don't know how to hook up a reciever! I've had the STR-DE 835 for about a month now, and 3 raging parties later no problems. No hissing, no overheating, nothing but 500 watts of ear piercing music. Similar Products Used: STR-DE 935 |

Strength:
DD and DTS sound. Features.
Weakness:
Remote. The only problem I have with this receiver is the remote. Whoever designed this one needs to be fired. I am very happy with the rest of this receiver. The sound during movies is great. Even without a powered subwoofer I get plenty of bass. I live in an apartment so a powered sub is not an option right now. I haven't had any problems with the receiver. Mine does not run hot. I have had it on at a moderate level for over 10 hours. And it only gets warm. This is the first Sony product I've owned. I always thought that for what you got Sony products were overpriced. But for the $260 total I paid I'm satisfied. Of course, for more money you can buy a better receiver. But, at this price level. I think the STR-DE835 is a great buy. |

I decided to buy this model as opposed to the 935 due to the reviews in this forum seemed to indicate a higher failure rate. I got a great deal for $300 including shipping and also a $50 rebate (net 250)!!! The only setup problem I had was no s-video for the tv/satellite connection (I have a Echostar/Dish Network box). I should have done a little more homework but my tv has both svideo and rca video connections. Overall I am very pleased but 4 stars for the lack of svideo on tv/sat. |

I just purchased this product yesterday and so far I have no complaints, It's been everything iv'e expected. It's my first reciever with the Dolby Digital and DTS Decoding. Which im not able to take advantage of yet, but hopefully soon. I have a setup with KLH center and large fronts, with some sony rear speakers. I must admit that this reciever sounds great! I recomend it to anyone, the only problem is the overheating, which can quickly be avioded by taking a quick trip to Raido Shack and getting a fan to cool it down. I have always liked the sound of the Sony recievers. This reciever is awesome!! Similar Products Used: Kenwood VR-306 |

Has anyone lost their center channel output on this receiver? If so, I'd like to know your experiences... It seems only to play once in a blue moon when it feels like it! Horrible - i thought it may have been a poor connection, or a blown center, but i hooked my center up to my left channel - speakers and cable was fine... then I hooked up the left to the center out - nothing - checked to see if i had the center setup for small , large or off - was on small - at high level there is hiss from the center but no output - running it on an apex dvd and b&w speakers - it gets damn hot ! - any advice from any of you? ryan_clermont@hotmail.com |

Strength:
Good remote, works for all my Sony, including Minidisc and CD player.
Weakness:
Can get hot, but hey every receiver does. Overall I find that this is an excellent receiver to listen to music on. On stereo mode it has 100*2and on surround 100*5. |
