I picked this receiver up for $189 at Onsale.com a month ago. No other receiver near this price range has the features of the TEAC. The subwoofer not playing in Stereo mode is a nuisance, but my Infinity SM-115's more than make up for the lack of bass. The Decoding in the receiver is exceptional (What do you expect from Motorola) and I have no complaints about it. The Dolby 3 Stereo mode for music is pretty useless, along with all the other DSP effects. There are no S-Video Inputs, and A set of 5.1 channel inputs would have been nice, but for this price I'm not complaining.
The Teac is an above average receiver in it's class, but the price I found it for is what makes it unbelievable.

Just bought this unit from Costco for $499.00 canadian because I had a tip that it was going down to $399 and I wanted to make sure I got one. Unfortunately the tip was a bit off and the price only dropped to $449.Either way I find this to be a great deal. I've had it for about 4 days now and have listened to several DVD's and can't believe the difference in DIGITAL to Pro-Logic.
I was looking at the Yamaha line, specifically the 795, and feel that this receiver easily compares in the Digital mode (which is really the only reason I bought it) to the Yamaha.
This unit will hold me for at least a couple of years until I can afford the dream system, FPTV etc...
I would give this piece a solid five stars due to the great price and the kick-ass DD.
Go get one...

I am vey impressed with the amount of features they packed into this receiver at such a great price. Even the working poor like me can have a sweet sounding home theater. I can't wait till my 15 in. powered sub gets here. Bye bye windows.

I can't say that I like it very much. There is a hissing sound in the background. I looks pretty cool and the features are all nice. But the output does NOT sound good at all. I will never buy a refurbished product again.

Strength:

Early Dolby Digital receiver that DIDN'T cost a bundle. The AC-3 input for laserdisc was deciding factor for me; one coax and one optical also. Incredible volume! A lot of A/V features for the money.

Weakness:

The remote is not the greatest, but for me, far from the worst!! No DTS for early models, Dolby RF killed off in later models with no notice or model # change. No banana plugs!

I was dismayed as an early (OK, not so early) LD collector, that this reciever provided LD owner's with a way to get Dolby D. without springing for Kenwood's earlier price-buster. I wanted it as soon as I got my Elite CLD-59 AC-3 player. I paid not so cheap prices...about $300-350 for each, but seeing as the availibility of either now adays, is seen as something only the "elite" rich folks should get with their A/V components!!!

I've only used the one TEAC, and knew of their solid reputation with professional Tascam recording gear, when most folks, pronouncing it wrong, thought it was furniture or a color/wood! I like my Sony's advanced text based LCD over Teac's, and the fact I got DTS for about the same price, but because of the RF going on new models, I'm more likely to sell the Sony towards an upgrade. These units perform perfectly in my humble opinion. I notice no humming that I see described, but as the nature of digital audio, some recordings hiss when there is no actual audio level (I've noticed while trying to detect descrete audio from my rears. This system DOES NOT require a LOUDNESS boost, but they give ya one anyway!!! It's plenty loud, and that's one of my favorite features, good bass from full range speakers, that I run on all 5 corners!!

If you still have laserdisc like I do, you'll have to do some hunting, but I suspect there are more like mine out there, and for about the cost of a AC-3 demodulator!!

This receiver cranks out great sound with both audio and video sources! I returned a HK 35 (by the way costed TWICE as much) for this TEAC. Why the heck would anyone return a HK for a TEAC, you ask? Because the TEAC sounds as good, and costs half what the HK cost. Plus the HK was clipping on some video and had interference problems with on roof antenna. I'm not trying to start a HK vs. TEAC war...I respect Harman's previous receiver line HK75 etc. they are great units! But for the $$$ saved on the TEAC, which weighs 28lbs., the TEAC stands VERY TALL! Only 3-minor probelms with TEAC: No universal remote. No speaker option for "small or large" speaker and not have receiver equipted use of SUB during stereo play. But these are minor problems and the end result is sound reproduction...which is outstanding! My windows be a shaking with this unit! This unit will really suprise you!

I never realized that you had Stereo Reviews on the web until now, I just visiting with a friend and learned this. First of all I have owned Teac Stereo equipment for over twenty year and have always been very satisfied. I upgrade every so many years and pass on the old to my brothers and a few months ago I purchased a AGD 9100 and I have to say it as great as all the others I have owned, but with a few more toys! My brothers love me very much for that but the craziest thing is all the other equipment I have passed on over the years is still working just fine and sounds great. That should tell everyone something, Thank you very much Teac for all the joy and happiness you have brought me and my family! Five stars for you!

The 9100 is a Very Fine AV Receiver and have enjoyed it for several months now! I'm very glade about purchasing it instead of the Yamaha receiver I was looking at! The sound quality is every bit as good if not better and for the price there is no way anyone can go wrong with this receiver. I can't think of anything I don't like about the receiver so I say Thanks!

Strength:

destroys at dvd, and sounds great in stereo, lot's of power

Weakness:

Sub doesn't play in stereo mode

basically this thing rocks on dvds, and for normal stereo listening, I don't like the fact that the sub channel doesn't work in stereo mode. I was going to get another dolby digital reciever that would, but this thing does such a great job on movies, that i don't want to pass it up. I was offered a pioner dsx-d608 for real cheap, but i enjoy the movies on the 9100 and can live without the sub. It sounds great.
