Strength:

Lots of inputs, blue lights are cool, 6 ch inputs, lots of power, way cheaper than comparable models from other companies.

Weakness:

Remote Sucks

This unit has a lot of power, 12 o'clock with my Klipsch RF-3, RC-3 and RS-3's can make my ears bleed they are so loud. I have this hooked up with the Technics Dolby digital and DTS decoder and it does a fabulous job on home theatre with the digital sources. This is a quality unit and will satisfy anyone on a budget.

Strength:

100 watts X 6, Bi-Amp connecting, 100watts @ 0.09% THD into Dolby Digital & DTS mode, 100 watts power for subwoofer, VGCA, cooling system, design (blue lights), remote can drive
all receiver and decoder (+ video...)simply all is excellent!

Weakness:

Can't adjust subwoofer(volume, filter) by remote, fan not working at low volume,

A lot of people called me for the SA-AX6 to know about my primary feeling about the SA-AX7. Now I have the chance to give you the the hole review. I'm a fan of bass and dance music; this receiver can give me what I want and more! The bass is powerful!!! And, very very very clear bass. The low-pass filter seems to be better than the SA-AX6. I use two Kenwood 12" (300watts RMS) and had no problem, just the real bass (neighboors are complaining but...)

Now talk about the sound itself. I use BI-WIRE speakers (that I built by myself) + the VGCA mode. Result: Simply excellent sound, cristal clear. I found that VGCA circuitry reduce a little the bass the had more presence and life the the voices.

Two days ago, I added the digital decoder (SH-AC500D) the make the perfect test with a DVD. Dolby Digital and DTS are using the 6 channels but we can used VGCA mode on. WOW, WOW, WOW: the sound is really good. Decoder makes its job perfectly and the small hiss that had on the SA-AX6 is a thing of past! And for people that love bass, you will be happy with this decoder, because in addition to drive separately the LFE channel (Low Frequencies Effects) and transmitting the sound directly one the sixth channel that have the SA-AX7, you can boost volumes (+- 12dB). Trust me, the sound WILL hurt you.

I can talk a lot about this fantastic receiver but it will be too long. Just think that for the price, this is THE BEST RECEIVER you can buy. I don't know why some people have some difficulties to trust in Technics, but I can tell you that Technics shows us, with the SA-AX7 that they know how to build real amplifier at cheap price. Trust me, I tested a lot of receiver and no one sound better than the SA-AX7 (in the same range of price)

Very fantastic job made by Technics
We call this : the SA-AX7!!!

P.S. I would put 1 millions others stars to rate this receiver. And if you want to know more, or you have some questions, feel free to e-mail me!

Strength:

price vs features, flexability, style, great erganomics

Weakness:

not high current

the following reviews sight power as a down fall. if you read the specs on the sa ax7/ sf dx7 you will notice that it is rated as 100 watts x 6 channels. fine print will reveal that this is 100 watts @ 6 yes 6 ohms not 8. so if you are like me (useing wharfedale 89,83,and a saphire center) your speakers will be 8 ohms. this will make it seam as if your cranking out about 75-80 watts. now don't get me wrong, if you are on a budget this is the combo for you. you can get one at crutchfield for 399. or check out the pricescan.com they start at 389. i recommend crutchfield because they will give you alot w/it. sound is great. the bi amp capability is outstanding has it's own mode for bi amp w/a parametric eq hf/lf to boot. i thought the remote was great. it controlled my whole system(i use sony es components but have no money for the es reciever) the sa-ax7 has fixed all all all the down falls of the ax6.oh yea the blue light is cool too.did i mention that 399 was for the package deal? sa ax7 and shc 500 digital/dts processor!! if you need to spend less than 700 duckets this is the deal for you.

Strength:

high performance-to-price ratio, plenty of inputs

Weakness:

lack of pre-amp outputs, pink noise generator for setting individual speaker levels is awkward for different speaker types.

I purchased the SF-DX7 receiver/processor combo (SA-AX7 + SH-AC500D)from Crutchfield for $399. Yes, you can get it cheaper elsewhere, but their customer service is phenomenal!

This purchase was my first dabbling into the digital theater realm. I did most of my shopping on-line, but luckily only made one mistake which wasn't too difficult to remedy. I use this combo to integrate digital surround into my existing 2 channel system. I had wanted to take the main output signal from this receiver into the preamp of my two channel system. The on-line specs said that this unit had preamp outputs. Unfortunately there are no MAIN preamp outputs on this receiver (only a mono output for a subwoofer), and there's no way this receiver would power my mains (Carver Amazing Platinum's bi-amped at 1000 watts each).

The solution came in the form of a Carver Wide-Band Z-Coupler which converts speaker-level output to RCA output. It's not the greatest solution, but it works.

I use this receiver ONLY for theater, so can't really comment on the other features. Have had no lack of power available, though I'm using highly efficient speakers. Digital surround is a QUANTUM LEAP beyond pro-logic theater, at least with this combo. DD & DTS effects are absolutely STUNNING!

Setup for individual speaker output was tricky due to the fact the a pink noise generator is used. While this would not be a problem for most people, my difficulties result from using bi-polar main speakers, with standard box & cone speakers for the remainder of the system. The sonic characteristics are VERY different, making setting the output levels somewhat of a challenge.

Overall, this system is a great buy for the money. No complaints with the performance whatsoever. Yea, the blue lights are cool too. For a budget theater system, this one's a winner.

Yes, my apartment neighbors HATE me with (8) 12" subs, (2) 15" woofers, & (2) 10" subs! I have SOLID bass output down to about 23 Hz!
