Strength:

Very Powerful Class H Amp. Almost impossible to clip
Easy control layout.Sounds great with Snell speakers and Cambridge Soundworks Sub Woofer.

Weakness:

Not for Home Theater. Just straight stereo.

The best value on the market for just great stereo performance. If you want dolby or home theater this unit will not do.
Amazed at the volume it reaches with no effort at all.
Will keep for years or until want home theater capabilities.
A great value.

Strength:

cheap, good power

Weakness:

"colored" sound

Bleh. This amp is good for the price, but don't expect any miracles when it comes to sound. The frequency responce is just not as flat as I would like it to be. It seems to emphasize the midrange too much, and the bass is not discrete (small damping factor?). Running the input through a graphic equalizer helps alot, but one should not have to do this. I am listening on a pair of Ohm C2 speakers. I have listened to them with a harmon/kardon, so I know what they should/can sound like. I am learning that not all amps are created alike.

Strength:

Low price and enough power. Could be worse I suppose.

Weakness:

Not flat frequency response, colour the sound. Muddy bass

Well, I needed a stereo receiver for my music only system in my bedroom and this was cheap. I bought it, lived with it. But now that I have learned a lot about audio I'm going to get an integrated amp (probably NAD C340, Creek 4330 or Cambridge audio A500).

I'm sure that someone can be quite happy with this amp, but if what you're looking after is high quality sound, this is not the product you need.

I does the job well for the price though. Better than a minisystem, good for college students (I am one, so it's not an insult) I suppose.

Like others have said; you can't play speakers A and B at the same time (not a problem if your system if for 2 channel music only). You have a phono input and the remote is OK. The tuner is maybe a little weak but does the job very well for the price (but get a better antenna than the one that comes with it).

This thing can play very loud and I guess it could be a good party receiver since it's inexpensive. It runs kinda hot though and it should have enough space above it to cool down correctly.

The front is plastic and the rest is metal.

Strength:

Great Power and low distortion

Weakness:

only 2-channel and limited a/v inputs

overall, this is perfect for those wanting power without a high price and for those who don't need much of a home theatre system. I don't think I could blow this reciever if I had to!

Strength:

This receiver has unbeatable sound & features for the price. Excellent amp, good layout & convenient remote.

Weakness:

No Loudness switch. So-so tuner. The amp sounds great but the treble is slightly harsh. Only one (unswitched) outlet.

For the price (currently about $119-129) you can't go wrong, as this is a very good receiver. The amp is very smooth and the slighly harsh treble is easily compensated for by the tone control, small as it may be. Speakers used: JBL L46. My only major gripe is the tuner - my '82 Sansui R99Z, also a budget job, pulls in the stations better.

There's a refreshing lack of flashing lights and other trendy but irritating doodads that get in the way of the music. It's a quiet, understated design that just gets down to business.

FYI, this receiver has been on the market for a while - it was reviewed in the Feb. '98 issue of Consumer Reports.

This receiver replaces my 1982 Sansui digital receiver, which has 30 watts/channel vs. 100 on the Technics, and two outlets vs. the Technics' one.

Strength:

Excellant sound for the price of $129.

Weakness:

A and B speaker switches cannot be used at the same time.

For the value of the price of $129.00 It is a great reciever. The sound is actually very good and accurate. The only minus is you can't use Speaker switc A and B at the same time. The Best stereo only reciever for the money.

Strength:

Powerful clean sound. No hissing or fuzz. Remote control with powered volume.

Weakness:

Only single speakers at once. Not powered bass, treble and balance controls. Tuner (before I fixed it)

Great ampifier. I had blown my sx 780 and was looking for a new amp to replace it. Finally I got one as a gift for my birthday as a total surprise. Well I took it home, hooked it all up. The sound of it was amazing. I'm currently using some crap realistic speakers but am going to buy jbl nd310's to go with the amp. I've seen people complain about the tuner and I also had a problem with it. What I did was I took at 50ft section of speaker wire that I had lying around and since this was in my basement I strung it around and connected that to the amp. Well now lets just say I can pick up nearly any signal it's so strong. The power of this thing is outstanding, I could easily blow the speakers i have right now so I'm trying to be careful with it. I'm using it through a mixer which has my computer as the input as well as a tape deck and cd player. As for the only single speaker set at a time. I don't really see this as a problem. It keeps the load at 8ohms instead of forcing the amp to work at 4ohms as it is with most stereo powered amps. I think that was the reason I blew my original amp was because I was doing a party with 4 speakers rather then the normal 2. Couldn't have been more pleased with it!

Strength:

Excellent sound for the money, solidly built, plenty of power for big speakers, just the right amount of audio adjustment controls for what you paid, overall nice amp

Weakness:

There's no digital input, but I have heard some really nice digital systems and this amp blows them away hands down. (so it's not really a weakness) Also it's not surround but it wasn't meant to be so it doesn't matter...

I got this amp at best buy for 30 bucks off (open box my favorite). It was missing the remote, but i found out later that that's one of the collest parts. It's got a motorized volume control! Oh well, so I missed out on the volume control.

Anyways, I combined this amp with some Yamaha NS-A638's. This amp really kicks. Overall I spent about $200 on this system after wires ect, and it is no question the best home stereo I have ever heard costing less than $1000 trust me!
