Strength:
Pretty design.
Weakness:
No DTS. Good, crisp sound. However, my left VU meter would click and the overload circuitry kicks in. The music would die. I have opened it up to see if there were loose wires or shorts, could not see any. It works most of the time but when you need it most, it will trip EVEN in low volume. I don't know what elese to do... |

I previously had the "little brother", the TX30 hooked up to my home theater. When I saw this unit sitting in perfect condition on the shelf of a local dealer I simply couldnt resist... The sound is not much different from its little brother but its the minor differences that make it truly shine. The TX50 is more silent when there is no load on the inputs, it has a stronger, more dynamic punch and the little THX-plaque goes nicely with the rest of my HT. There is honestly nothing negative I can find about this thing, not having DD or DTS decoding built in is actually a plus to me because this way I can use a truly high-end decoder which will give me a true analogue 24bit/96khz signal to send to this unit for final amplifying (my decoder consists of a specially optimised pc which has been outfitted with a true 24/96 soundcard, the Terratec DMX 24/96. Its specially shielded inside the case so that almost no interference can reach it (zero interference is impossible)). Overall, I can honestly say that anyone who is able to buy this unit and hesitates should be ashamed of himself. Similar Products Used: SA-TX30 |

Strength:
Very low noise level, excellent separation, THX mode does magic to PL.
Weakness:
No DD/DTS decoder, speaker adjustment a bit clumsy. Tehnics hasn't made a reputation to make high-end products, so the TX50 really surprised me. As people want to upgrade their systems they tend to forget that this reciever can produce a soundstage and separation like several much much more expensive units. Combined with the Technics DD/DTS decoder it is way more interesting than any new reciever. Similar Products Used: Yamaha, Sony, Denon, Marantz |

Strength:
lots of power
Weakness:
get to hot I love this unit. I am currently upgrading my system and am going to trade this unit in last. The only resone i am trading it in is because i am going with all seperates. I will replace it with a stand alone amp. I am going to keep it for some other use, maybe my bedroom setup. I love the big metter face on it. I also like the uncluttered front panel. This is really a great buy. The only thing that i dont like is that i have to keep it seperate from my other componets because of the amount of heat it creates (but what do you expect from a power house like this one). This is by far one of the best peices of audio equipment i have. Similar Products Used: none |

Strength:
This is a great receiver! love the SFC . Plenty of outputs and inputs
Weakness:
no AC-3 but it is AC-3 ready I love this reciever. I got it at a buy out store for an unbelievable $130, no box on remote. I tracked down a remote from the manufacturer and have been thrilled ever since. I haven't picked up a DVD player yet, but as I said I got a AC-3 processor at the some place so I can't wait to hear the DDS with this THX system. The SFC is great for all dif types of music and TV. Great Sim. Surround. I guess original list was around $1,100. I'm not sure I would have paid that but I sure would have been willing to pay a several times more than I did. If you con find one of these and you have a AC-3 decorder buy it. |

Strength:
Great sound out. Love the large VU meters. Also like the option to added additional amplifiers for the speakers. Wicked THX sound.
Weakness:
No AC3 decoder. No DTS. For the money, they could have added these features. Even though the fan works great, unit gets hot to the touch when operating it at 25 to 40% volume. Fan does not run full time in this area. I love the receiver. Was one of a very limited product for Canada. Took four months for my dealer to find one. Sorry for the cinema the it was supposed to go to at first. The touch screen adds a few more features that the remote that came with it did not have. The remote looked to big. Good luck in finding one too. Similar Products Used: Previous version Technics without THX. AKAI. |

Strength:
Pure Grunt out of all 5 channels. Subwoofer on/off button. Lots of svideo input/outputs. Ultra quiet cooling fan. good remote. Look fantastic with huge VU meters on the front.
Weakness:
NO on board decoders.. NO AC3 no DTS etc.... If you can find one buy it... You will never look back. All my friends that see if for the first time, love it. If you want an amp that just works and has heaps of grunt to shake the house and you don't need/want any built in decoders.. then this is the one for you. I love it. and give it 5/5. I am pretty serious about two-channel and I don't care too much for the home theater. But with all this HT hype going around my wife asked me why am I not doing anything about it. So I decided to play with it (without spending a fortune).Well, I must say that I discovered few interesting things. |
