Strength:

Nicest looking revceiver ever produced, great sound

Weakness:

No DD or DTS

I remember drooling over these things when they were new, years later I see one for sale in the paper on the same day i was heading off to buy a SA-DA8. Just last week I was wishing that I could find a TX-50, but it seemed very unlikely. Now I have one playing Dire Straits as I type this, very nice sound.

The TX-50 has 6 channel input, so I better find myself a good DVD player with onboard DTS decoder, or perhaps a DVD audio player. It also has 7 channel pre-amp outputs (2 center mono + the usual), so I'll be on the look out for those technics power amps with the matching power metre needles. Again, I'm not likely to find any. We never had many of those components sent to New Zealand.

Strength:

It produces pure sound on a high performance level; with a DVD player (I got a Panasonic DVD-350) the receiver shows how great it can be to watch movies! Also music sounds fantastic. All sound modes are excellent. THX mode is great; with a Dolby Digital-and/ or DTS-Decoder you have the best home-cinema in your neighbourhood!!!

Weakness:

In low volume mode, the receiver
has problems to produce a clear sound.

THX Speakers required to unfold the best sound avaiable.

Little problems when you use a Panasonic TV. The remote influences both and vice versa.

I have to change the lights in the front panel coz of the long use now.

The SA-TX50 is great. It looks pretty, and with the right DVD and TV you will have a lot of fun with it!!! I simply love the receiver, and I would be totally sad if it does not work! Its the main station of my home cinema!
Friends of the SA-TX50; let us all enjoy our beautiful "gift" brought to us by Technics!

Strength:

Strong receiver, beautiful cosmetics

Weakness:

no digital decoding, but not a big deal- get it built in your dvd and get DTS at the same time

My favorite piece of equipment. Beautiful retro style Vu meters. My friends are jealous, and if they stop admiring it, I use the remote to turn off the front panel light to catch their eye. Even if they were blind, however, they'd still love it. I've got them wired up to B&W 600 series speakers, and it sounds fantastic. I'll never sell!

The (Master Reference) TX-50 is an excellent product from Technics, (a division of Panasonic) I've have been hooking up both Home and Car Audio systems for about 6 years now, and been calibrating receivers with speaker systems for about 4 years, I've listened to many different receiver too, and the Technics series has really impressed me. I picked up my TX-50 in July '97, it a THX receiver, with a bunch of different features, sure there are quite a few other THX receivers out there that are better than Technics, like Harmon/Kardon, Carver, Denon, but they'll also will put a balance on your credit card that will take you years to pay off, but the TX-50 only cost me $500 ($1200 list) out the door after bargining with the salesman, that to me was a deal of a lifetime. After connecting the receiver to my (Acoustic Research) AR 310HO Towers, AR S12HO Sub, AR 308HO Rears, AR CS25HO Center, and tweating the receivers independant speaker sound levels for each of the different sound fields this receiver sounds incredible, the mids and highs are clear and crisp, and the bass is strong and tight. The power the TX-50 delivers 120-plus watts to each of the fronts and center, and 100 to each of the rears lets you really crank the volume and still maintain clear sound, especially with the AR's high efficient speakers. The 10-plus sound fields, onscreen display, 7-sets of seperate inputs, and programmable remote control that will control a TV, 3 VCR's, CD, Tape, and of coarse the Tuner are also one of the units stong points.
There are many things to account for when configuring a room for a home theater setup and the Technics TX-50 does an excellent job in the receiver section. The rating I give it in Sound/Features/Power/Price made it receive an overall of 5 Stars.

Strength:

Huge power without any distortion at clipping level, exellent sfc(dsp) modes, great front view with vu meters quiet fan, easy to use, perfect frequency response.it's DD ready.

Weakness:

no dimmer for lightning, fan works depend on output power(means getting hot at low levels) some controls at only front panel. No DD No DTS onboard. But none of these are important.Generally it's a perfect unit.

Excellent sound and power on music.Because of being an analog receiver it has a little hiss at rear channel. But it's normal.if you have large front speakers you don't have to use subwoofer.it can produce enough bass.Output of front channels is approximately 250 watts-peak power- @ 8 ohms load.(measured by myself)it wasn't named as top model by Technics but I think it deserve to get this name.it's HONOUR of TECHNÝCS.

I'm a home theater enthusiast and I got my first A/V receiver (Technics SX-300) three years ago. It wasn't very "high-fidelity", but in Dolby-Pro Logic it sounded just fine.
Then we had our first THX-theater in Helsinki (which is the capital of Finland) and then my interest about THX-sound system rise. I sold my old receiver and started to look for THX receivers and then I found new "Master Series" Tecnics SA-TX50- Home THX Controller. The large burnished-gold-colored analog power needles dominating its front face were only the most obvious attraction for me of the Technics SA-TX50. It's ready for Dolby Digital surround decoding (previously called Dolby AC-3). Of course, like all Dolby Digital products, it is also compatible with analog Dolby Pro-Logic. And it's THX-certified, having met Lucasfilm's requirements for surround performance.

The unit delivers 120 watts (6 ohm.) each to the front left, center, and right speakers, plus 100 watts (6 ohm.)per channel to the two rear-surrounds. Power output rises to 125 watts per channel in stereo.

Technics' Class H+ amplifier circuitry uses two rails (a conventional receiver would use just one). When the signal rises to demand more power, the receiver switches to the higher power rail, punctuating explosions and other aural spikes. Most of the time, though, it operates on the lower rail for greater efficiency.

The back panel includes a six-pin input to accept Dolby AC-3 signals from a laserdisc or DVD (Digital Video Disc) player.

I then bought it and it has meet my own home cinema requirements just fine
and it doesn't even cost very much as a THX receiver and nearly verybody can
afford it. If your planning to buy a very good Pro-Logic A/V Receiver which you can update in the future (AC-3 etc.) check out the Technics SA-TX50 first.
I highly recommend.

Strength:

It`s very powerfull, the THX sounds incredible and so does the Sfc.

Weakness:

No AC-3 dekoder

It`s the greatest reciever i`ve ever listened to, with all that power and bass... wauhh. I`ve been looking for it the past 3 years and when I finaly found it I was so lucky to find a Demo model that had been standing there for 2 years, without ever really beeing used. So I got one of the absolut best recievers for such a low price as 450$, rideciously... And I`m very satisfied with how well it works and I have a Panasonic A-350 DVD player with a built in AC-3 dekoder and together with the Pascal Sa-ve705 speaker system it sounds incredible.
Now all i can wish fore is a THX-certified speaker system so my dreams of a Home cinema finaly can be forefilled.

If you ever stumble over one, buy it. It´s a clear 5 stars

Strength:

Awesome sound, big gleaming VU meters, power

Weakness:

The only thing I don't like is the inability to program names of audio inputs. I'd like to change VCR2 or VCR3 to possible Satellite and Computer or whatever else I choose.

The reciever is great. It produces wonderful sound and really fills my listening desire. Coupled with my big screen TV, it creates a great home theater. The weaknesses and strengths listed about cover all my feelings.

Strength:

Very powerful, THX, 5.1 input ++++

Weakness:

Lacks Dolby Digital, can get a little hot.

This is an incredible AV reciever. I have used it for two years now with a JVC video player, and recently bought a Hitachi DVD. It sounds incredible in Dolby Pro Logic, stunning in THX, and truly fantastic in 5.1 mode.(DVP6CH) Its powerful, excellent sound, and all my friends tell me it's the coolest looking audio equipment they have ever seen. I'm really pleased with this reciever, and would never change it!! If you can still find it, buy it!
