Strength:
Easy to use, great sound, great price
Weakness:
NONE My trasaction with eCost for this unit went very smoothly, and they even agreed not to charge me for shipping, since they could not match a better price. |

Strength:
Easy setup. Sounds Great! More then enough power for small to midsize room. Did I mention it sounds great! Matched speakers. Best HTIB out for less then $1000.00.
Weakness:
Learning remote does not control my cable box. (Codes in the manual and searched the net but no luck) Pioneer Broadband cable box. Speaker cable in the box. (Of course most people wouldn't use that stuff but I thought I'd point it out.) Bought the entire setup in a package. Home theatre in a box (HTIB) from Good Guys. Got them to match some internet pricing. Sells normally for $699.00 had them match $599.00 out the door. I have a Sony 27", Sony DVD, and with S-video and opticaL connection to this reciever the picture and sound can go head to head with a system costing 3X what I spent. This started as a small living room setup, but blows away my 32" XBR with Sony A/V, Sony DVD and dual subs in my bedroom for overall cost. The sub and sats that come in the package are made for this receiver. I installed this system before Thanksgiving dinner and by desert we were watching the Patriot. (WOW!) I think I've sold three of these systems to the parties in the room. And the whole package including tv is less then 2K. Less then I paid for my XBR TV back in the days. Hats off to Sony for picture, but for surround you can't beat this package for the price, even if you plan on spending a few hundred dollars more. Similar Products Used: Sony, Yamaha |

Strength:
Solid construction, analog dials for bass & treble, DTS, clean lows and highs, lots of tuner presets, a good remote (finally!) etc. etc.
Weakness:
Not enough S-Video connections, not saving DSP modes for each radio station (Sony could), no light on volume knob First off, thank you all for schooling me big time. Two nights ago I went to Sears to purchase a DD/DTS receiver to upgrade from my old Sony Pro-Logic. I impulsively bought a STRDE 545 and proceeded to hook her up. Result: MAJOR HISSING. So I logged online, came to this site, punched it up and lo and behold- just about EVERYONE slammed the Sony 545 for the HISS. Thank you for that, guys. Ahhh, and now to thank you all the SECOND time; for informing me that Sears does internet price matching! So I went to Sears.com, looked at the receivers they had for sale, and spied the Yamaha HTR-5240. So I clicked back over to this site to see what the crew thought of her, and you guys loved her! So me being a slave to mass opinions (hey! Majority rules-this is America) I trekked back to Sears, showed them a printout from ecost.com (a THIRD thank you for that as well) got a sweet price and took her back home for some audio nookie. Strength:
Excellent sound! Great price!!
Weakness:
Needs more S-video inputs. Remote is kinda weird. With the exception of the s-video inputs and the remote, this receiver is flawless. Got a great price at Sears (like everyone else). Similar Products Used: Onkyo |
