Strength:

Fantastic Dolby sound modes, universial remote

Weakness:

NO DTS, just not quite enough power

I hooked this up with my pair of Bose 501 and a pair of 300W/ch party speakers as A & B. I do this because the Bose cannot pump enough bass out. When I turn the volume to about the 11 o clock position, the display started dim as the bass of the music plays. I didn't want to run it at this level for too long or i guess i will blow the amp. But honestly, that's a very very loud sound already so i doubt i will ever want to run it at that volume in the future. Overall i am really pleased that i purchased this amp.

About the remote control, it can control many of the devices at home except it doesn't do Disc Skip on my Technics 5 disc changer. They should enable the num-pads on the remote when turned into the CD position.

(see my review of Sony DE935)
Love it! Much better than that Sony paperweight I initially purchased.

Not the most feature packed unit out there, but I didn't want to spend a fortune.

For $529.00 CDN got the quality I was seeking for a HT setup. No hastles, no unexpected disappointments - just pure sound.

Can only give this puppy 4 stars overall, since I don't know what a 5 star unit would cost and feature. But if there is in fact something better out there for the money, I didn't find it.

In my quest to try and replace a lost Yamaha M-80/C-80 system I tried this new kid for $350.00 to use as the driver for my DQ-1 Subwoofer pair, and as the tuner portion of the new system I am building. The 905 has a good sound and range for a digital and the connection/remote is easy to comprehend. However, when I tried to drive a good listen of the 1812 Overture, the DQ's sucked the 905 dry and begged for more...then the 905 gave up and clipped off on me. This will be a gift reciever/amp now to my nephew in college...it's only suited for a dorm dweller, not a serious listener.

Great receiver. It has all the features I'd expect in a $400 receiver. The sound is truley alive. Don't be fooled by the 70Watts per channel. I drive large floor standing mains and it has more than enough power.

I just got this receiver and I am very happy with its sound quality andfeatures. You cant beat it for the price. The power rating fools you because
it has no problem pushing all speakers loud and clear. I recommend this receiver
for anyone wanting to get into home theater. It is nice too because it has inputs for a dts decoder for the "down the road" upgrade. I had just returned the jvc rx-884v. I wasnt happy with the jvc at all. The yamaha sounds so much better. I am a converted yamaha fan for life!!

Ordered the R-V905 based on the reviews in this forum and my previous good experience with Yamaha receivers. I purchased the unit from onecall.com for $376 - very happy with the experience. Receiver arrived on-time and double boxed. The Yamaha was replacing an Onkyo 515 receiver (60 wpc). In comparision the Yamaha seems much more dynamic and powerful driving my Energy Take 5's w/ ES-10 sub. The difference between DD and DPL is greater than expected - some of the explosions in Ronin scared the crap out of my dogs. Never happened with the Onkyo! I agree with some of the other posters about the remote being somewhat difficult to use, but it is workable. Overall I'm very happy with my purchase.

Bought the Yamaha from Best Buy. It was a floor model that I got for $319. Took it home and had it for one week. Was not happy with different sound effects. Would get crackling on half of them. Took it back and got the Sony 835. Much happier now.
