I purchased this receiver a few months ago to replace an old Kenwood and could'nt be happier. The sound is very clean all the way up to 60%+!!! I am powering a pair of Cerwin Vega E-312's and it does the job very well, with no noticeable distortion. The sound is very natural (Hence the "natural sound" claim by Yamaha), there is no overemphasis of any frequency range, even with the bass and treb controls turned up all the way. Do not expect to get overwhelmed with bass from this reciever. But keep in mind that cranking the bass all the way up can put almost ten times as much stress on the woofer than having the control knob at zero. I just purchased an Advent powered 15" sub and really think that a powered sub is the way to go to get the most bass out of this setup. All in all, this receiver beats the pants off of any Pioneer, Sony or JVC in price ranges much higher. The sound is strong and clean, whereas these other companies tend to manufacture poor quality equipment. If you buy this receiver you will not be upset, it offers tremendous value and really can't be beat by many competitors unless you spend much more. |

I purchased the 905 because of the reviews posted here about it and other well known brands. I have been through a bunch of movies with this unit and I have to agree that this is an excellent unit. Unlike some reviews have stated, the remote is pretty easy to master. I have a 22 year old set of JBL L-100's (4311 consumer series) that were really "awakened" by this RV905. Also using JBL's for center and surrounds. 5.1 decoding is tremendous and the DSP really changes things around and is much fun to play with. I have found that a 10 o'clock setting in volume is thundering, and I don't even have a sub yet! The shuttle sequences in Armageddon will shake you and change your hairdo. Keep up the good work AUDIOREVIEW cause you really led me in the right direction. |

This reciever was worth the money. The remote IS user friendly once you get used to it. It has great sound and is comparable to my Panasonic SAAK-57. This has great reception and sound. If you're looking for a new new reciever take this into consideration. |

Strength:
Clarity, plenty of power w/ the 70w x 5 & at the price, could not find a better value.
Weakness:
Agree w/ previous reviews concerning remote. Otherwise, at price I picked up ($320), it's hard to find faults. Was getting by w/ a Pioneer way past it's prime. This receiver brought me the sound quality w/out spending the big $$'s. Strong w/ DVD & have no complaints w/ CD's rolling of my Paradigm Mini-Monitor's. Recommend!! Strength:
Conservative rating of 75W per channel, multi digital optical inputs, ability to push 4 main speakers without blowing up!!!
Weakness:
volume position indicator, no coaxial digital input for dedicated DACs. I did not start my journey to becoming an audiophile until I got this amp. I like to listen to my music extremely loud, but without distortion. I blew up 2 aiwa's listeneing to Van Halen then bought the Sony. I kept the sony for 2 weeks and then asked my buddy Jack what I should buy in my price range to get the most bang for my buck. Jack is an audiophile from way back.. Van Alstein Amp B&W speakers. Anyway, the choices for a $400.00 amp don't include the really good stuff, but I think the Yamaha is the best buy in this price range! I was very surprised at the great sound, low distortion, and most of all the load this unit can handle without going up in a puff of smoke.
