Strength:
Clear Sound
Weakness:
internal amp does not handle lower ohm speakers well, but this is common among most in this catagory. I bought this from a seller on Ebay, it was new old stock never opened completely new. This receiver was a great bargan for what I paid for it, the sound is clear, but does not have a very powerful internal power amp. I use an Adcom GFA 555 to power my two main larger floor speakers, they run at 6 ohms and take a lot of power, it is best to use an external amp for this. Strength:
Excellent Sound Quality, Elegant Product presentation
Weakness:
Remote control sometimes not functioning and of course my problem about the digital output. I really admire the performance of this unit, sound quality wise, I can say that this is one of the most outstanding unit (same level) that you could ever had now a days. Even though I knew from day one that before you can enjoy the 6.1 feature of this unit you need to have another power amplifier to hook up with your system. But even without rear center speaker I enjoyed hearing an excellent digital output. Until one day I found and realized that I already lost the digital output of this unit. strange isn't it? I brought it in the service center here in Al-Khobar Saudi Arabia and they told me that the digital integrated micro chips was damage. I don't know how. The technician told me that it will cost me about $300.00 to replace the whole digital board which I believe it's not practical not to mention the duration of order and delivery time frame. Currently, PCM and Dolby Pro Logic features are still perfectly working, but of course having the digital features is far better to have than not. Will some body please give me some advise regarding this matter? I can actually rate this unit as great deal value or more than that performance wise. Due to the digital feature issue. Defenitely I can't. I need some solutions guys. |

Strength:
Good build quality, awesome sound
Weakness:
remote control Iv'e had my mine now for about two years and it has worked perfectly up until now. Around December 2002 the remote control started to act up. It refused to accept any info. from the input buttons. I changed the batteries but it still had the problem. The only way to get it back on track is to utilise the reset button in the area of the batteries. That got it working for a while but it reverted back to not accepting the inputs. Other users may find this option useful. |

Strength:
Big 'ole remote that lights at night and controls everything else in the rack. Very musical sounding. Easy to operate/intuitive (my wife works it with no problems, and she hates this stuff.)
Weakness:
None for my application, though it was a little more money than I would have liked to spend. I did a lot of research on buying a surround system. I'm a musician with a home studio as well as a professsional local television producer so my standards are pretty high. I don't consider myself an audiophile, however, because I'm not willing to put out top dollar for bleeding edge product. I want something really good for an acceptable price, that's it. I know this unit doesn't have true 6.1 or powered sub out, and knew it ahead of time. Thus I bought a matched set of four B&W satellites, a center speaker and a 350W B&W sub (which is absolutely astounding, I must add.) In short, I knew what I was getting. That's half the battle to not being disappointed, I think. Having said all this, the Yamaha has been fantastic. It sounds very musical to my ears, very clean, and I have only slightly adjusted the bass knob to kick a little extra to my sub without turning the sub up. The DSP setups I have been happy with, I haven't messed with them at all (and I usually mess with everything reverb or EQ related; I'm like that.) The setup features worked very well and I was able to get a terrific sound in very short order. A year after buying this unit, I would certainly buy another if it crashed. A note that I didn't understand until I did this review -- 3 stars on value is a "fair deal." 4 stars is a "great deal." I love the unit, but I can't truthfully call this a "great deal." Get it for around $600, then it's a great deal. This kind of money is a fair deal, and fair is fair. Similar Products Used: Looked at Marantz, Sony and Kenwood. For the money and features, nothing else sounded as good. |

Strength:
Number and flexibility of inputs and outputs Tons of DSP effects and digital sound decoding Easily tweakable for those that crave customization Excellent sound quality High quality, low price
Weakness:
Radio reception is marginal. Remote may need new batteries right off the bat depending on how long it has been sitting (mine "appeared" to be not receiving the signal from the remote, but when I replaced the batteries, no problem.) The Yamaha RX-V1000 has done everything I wanted it to do and more. The number of inputs is exceptional, the output flexibility (especially with simultaneous multi-output capability) is outstanding, and the quality of the unit seems top-notch. I have not regretted this purchase one bit. I'd like to see a better price/features combo, because in my book, this receiver couldn't be beat. Similar Products Used: None |

Strength:
Power, remote, flexiblity
Weakness:
None Have had this receiver for more than 3 months now and its great. Reading the reviews below cribbing on the receiver after making some bad deals on the net - is not the fault of the receiver but of the person who took the risk of purchasing on the web instead of authorized dealers. You might get good prices on the web but dont crib if you get duped. The remote is excellent and i use it to control both by dvd and tv also. Packs enough power to drive my 4ohm Dynaudio speakers and the system as a whole sounds great. Similar Products Used: Denon,Onkyo |

The reviews I read, wish I knew in person.
Weakness:
This particular unit, and UBid. I hope this says more about UBid than the RX-V1000, but for what it's worth... After researching receivers, I decided the Yamaha RX-V1000 was a good deal at $409 direct from Ubid (not an individual party, but UBid itself). UBid advertised this as a new unit, and I assumed it was black in color b/c the photo was black and no mention was made of a gold model. I received an obviously used unit (greasy fingerprints on owner's manual, cord unwrapped, scrapes on the cord prongs, ripped open remote packaging, and footprints of another audio component on the top of the unit's housing). I plugged the unit in for kicks and to see the RX-V1000 display in case I'd buy another. This receiver would turn on for a quarter second, then short out. UBid advertised a new unit and sent me a used, broken unit. I've read that Yamaha produces a good receiver so maybe this was just a lemon, but you can imagine how I view UBid right now, and I'm a little wary of Yamaha. UBid seems cooperative thus far during the return process, I'll update if I have more trouble. |

Strength:
easy of use good overall sound reproduction
Weakness:
remote I have no complain about the some quality the receiver produced. My remote stop functioning after one month. Changing the battery did not help. Returned to Tweeter for service. Got the receiver back after two months with a "new" remote. Remote did not function. Return for service again. Three months passed anf still have not heard a word. I called them and it took almost two weeks for them to find out the status of the receiver. The store will not give me a refund because they have a 30 days refund policy. Needless to say, my next Home theater upgrade will not be at Tweeter Similar Products Used: HK Sony |

Strength:
Power, pretty user friendly
Weakness:
Check batteries in remote, before phoning the store and freaking out about it not working..haha I have had this reciever for about 6 months now, and just love it. It has taken my home theater to a new level from the old 396 that I had before. Not that you can even compare the two. Music wise it is still pretty dam good, but still want to pick up a bryston for pure music and use the yammy as a pre-amp. If you buy this it won''t let you down.
