Strength:

Clean at full power

Weakness:

FM sensivity, remote, rear spkr volume is too low with non-Digital Dolby tv programs

Upgraded from an 18 year old dennon 2 channel system. I'm an engineer and hookup was still very scary. Manual is poorly written and laid out. Remote buttons are too small and it's difficult to operate with one hand. My biggest problem is with the FM reception. Sensitivity and selectivity specs are not as good as my 18yr old $200 dennon. Apparently you need to spend $2500 on AV systems before FM sections are as good as cheaper units of the old days. I now have a big ugly antenna on the roof to get half way decent reception from 50 miles away.

Strength:

Nice, clean sound. Reasonable price.

This is more of a question rather than a review. I have been having trouble with playing some DVD's with DTS audio format. Specifically, the Eagles' Hell Freezes Over concert DVD is sometimes not being decoded as DTS. The DVD player I used has DTS out. I just can't explain the inconsistency. The yamaha customer service rep I spoke with suggested that I buy a Yamaha DVD player instead of using other brands. But this does not make sense. Any DVD player that has a DTS out must be compatible. Has anyone encountered the same problem. Thanks. Otherwise, I am satisfied with the product. I has clean sound and a lot of connections.

Strength:

Qualidade do som, processamento, entradas, 6.1 canais discretos (apesar de ainda nao termos muitos titulos neste formato).

Weakness:

Strength:

I suppose I could have got the RXV-3200 or top of the line RX-Z1 but I didn't need 120 or 130 watts

Weakness:

none

(RXV-2200) I've only had this thing for a little over a month and I am very satisfied. It has been long enough that my system has completely broken in and sounds superb! I have no complaints because I have no issues with the receiver. I also don't know why people complain about the remote. I think the remote is very straight forward. Once you have it programmed to the correct component you simply press the button it corresponds to. Then you simply press which ever sound program you wish to use... I very nice unit. I will definitly look at yamaha's in the future. I do plan on upgrading to the RAV-2000.. I just want to have a cool touch screen remote. HA! Good luck on you people's search for a receiver.. but don't overlook yamaha!

Strength:

Sounds great. Many sound fields.

Weakness:

I can't get any sound from front or rear speakers while watching television.

I just installed a brand new rx-v1200 receiver. This is more of a question than a review. It seems to work well w/ a dvd and cd's, but I can't seem to get any sound out of the left and right front or rear speakers while watching television. All the sound comes out of the center with a little sound coming from the subwoofer. I tried Pro Logic, Pro Logic II, and Neo 6; I only get sound from the the center front speaker and subwoofer. I tried raising the volume level quite a bit, but it just makes the center speaker get louder. Is there a problem w/ the processor? My old Pro Logic receiver sent the sound to all my speakers while watching television, so I don't think it's just the source material. Do I need to raise the speaker level for the other speakers? There isn't an option to raise the front left and right speaker level. Do I need to return this receiver? I like it, but I'm very frustrasted at the lack of sound while watching television. Please let me know any suggestions. Thanks.

Strength:

features ; richness in sound ; great surround sound processing - lots of options with inputs

Weakness:

remote

FOLLOW-UP REVIEW! Okay, this is crazy but the reason my receiver and TV were getting all sorts of interference was because my wife had installed a sonic RAT/rodent device in the garage. When plugged in this causes all sorts of wave interference and she'd put it in the same day I installed the RX-V2200. Now that that's resolved I can truly say that this is the best receiver I've ever owned. The features are wonderful and expansive - although the remote takes getting used to and my wife doesn't even attempt to try to use it anymore (an added bonus). This receiver does a great job bringing out the warmth of my speakers - much more so than the Onkyou I had been using. Although the reviews on this board are for the 1200 model, I must say that this line of receivers has to be one of the best considering the cost.

Strength:

great product for the price. This has all the bells and whistles you could want. Lots of options to hook up all your components and then some.

Weakness:

NONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I bought my Yamaha RX-V1200 from www.acousticsounddesign.com at a GREAT price. I order it from Mike and one week later it is here at my doorstep. I wont order from anybody else but Acoustic Sound Design. I got my unit in factor sealed then opened it up, hooked it up, and now I'm enjoying GREAT music while I type this up, lol. I looked at several units from Sony, Denon, Onkyo, and Yamaha. In the end, Yamaha has the best options, the best sound, the best setup, and the most options for a receiver in this price range $700-$1000. Plus the Yahama has the BEST THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) of all the units and that includes the 2 to 4 thousand dollar range receivers. I hooked all this up to my Klipsch speakers and it is the best investment.

Strength:

Muscial detail. Power. Switching. Build quality. DSPs and decoding. Phono input!

Weakness:

Remote is not as intuitive as others (like the Onkyo mentioned above), though it is attractive and fits in one hand well. Manual could be more helpful.

Great machine, not perfect, but could not find anything that was close to its performance and build quality in the price range. The following comments are made based on a test/listening with a Sony CDP 970 with digital optical output. I got my local Yammy dealer to let me take the Yamaha 1200 home to a/b with the Onkyo TSR 600 that I had bought first (I have a review posted for the Onkyo also which I returned to CC before my 30 days). 1. Out of box the Yammy impresses--bigger, heavier and has many more jacks, including pre-outs for all channels, as well as, more optical inputs (7 vs 4). The speaker terminals are bigger, though not color coded like the Onkyo, and there are binding posts for the B speakers unlike the spring loaded junk on the Onkyo. 2. The music was different between them in a way I would not have expected. At first my ears liked the Onkyo better, because the Yammy is less bright, but in specific musical tests, the Yamaha was more detailed and mature. The sound stage had more depth and brought out more instrumentation over the Onkyo. In Marc Cohn's "Perfect Love" there are clear separations between the percussion, the guitar and other elements with the Yamaha that were glossed over by the Onkyo. 3. On the power side, the Yamaha has more lower end bass (almost too much--must be adjusted). In 6 channel stereo the Yammy appropriately increases in volume where the Onkyo slightly decreased. 4. Decoding and HT are incredible on the Yamaha. This is perhaps the most surprising and pleasing difference. I put Diana Krall on and used the pre-set "Jazz Club" DSP--wow. She's right there with an impressive sound stage. Andrea Bocelli's Teldec recording in a Roman Cathedral using the "Church" DSP is absolutely ethereal. Then you go back to stereo and recognize how good stereo is too. I am extremely pleased. My brother heard the above examples when visiting and exclaimed that you could probably fool some people with the Yammy behind a curtain and they might think that a live band was performing behind it! I don't have my basement HT finished (carpet is on order as I write this), so I haven't really been able to test the HT modes. However, based on the detail and strength of the DSPs on the Yammy so far, I'm sure I'll be happy. It does have full DD and DTS decoding fleets to date. It does not have THX.

Strength:

better remote. really nice on music but with better soeaker the detail of the music fads

Weakness:

The first one didnt have any power coming from it at all. had to get this second unit. also customer service at yamaha sucks

Update on my last review. I love this reciever compare with my 596 whcih was stolen last year, this is a very good reviever. The only problem is sometimes there is a dropoff in volume. plenty of power. This thing is lounder than my 596 which was 100 watts per channel. It sounds better with my celestion mini towers than my mirage OM-10's. The celestion was more detailed than my mirage maybe because I havent really cranked it up and the position of my speakers

Sound is wonderful

Weakness:

May have interference issues with some TVs???

Review for RX-V2200. The sound is great but ever since I added this unit, the quality of my TV image has been degraded considerably. No matter what the source the granularity of the image is terrible. I've disconnected all sources and all power and plugged each source straight into the TV and still nothing looks good. Thus, I would think this isn't a receiver problem. However, it would appear that as long as the receiver stands next to my Sony 36XBR400 the image is bad. If I move the RX-v2200 away the image gets good again. Sony says receiver problem and Yamaha says TV problem. Anyone have any thoughts? Please email me at JIMB1233@ATTBI.COM ; thanks!
