Strength:
Excellent sonic characteristics in both stereo and theater listening
Weakness:
5 channel input (why not a 6th?!). Most DSP modes not very useful Overall, this is a great stereo receiver w/ S-Video switching and multi-room/multi-source features. Add an external DD/DTS decoder and it shines for home theater. |

Strength:
Excellent sound, soundfields realistic,Great for movies and music. Excellent build quality.
Weakness:
None that I've found, other than the new Yamaha Rx-v1 that I want to replace it with. I have been very happy with this receiver and with the quality of yamaha products in general, so much so that when I purchase a new receiver it will more than likely be another yamaha(Rx-v1) Similar Products Used: Listened to many receivers befpre I purchased, liked the yamaha the best. Still do! |

Sounds great only with the ddp-1 attached and working in ac-3 mode, otherwise it is not so great. Just found that out 20 minutes ago.The functions in 5 channel discrete mode restricts the entire ac-3 mode to only one soundfield and db adjustments are only for center and rears but no input on the 2090 for subwoofer in, doesn't allow for use of the subwoofer output provided by the ddp-1 for the 2090, seems strange. Someone dropped the ball on this one, the bottom line, it's limited to one ac-3 mode, expensive, but is a great piece when coupled with the ddp-1 for movie theater sound. |

Strength:
Excellent sound, especially paired with a DD processor.
Weakness:
Weak remote. This is a very good receiver. I bought it used for $300. Retailed new for over $1,000. Very powerful and clean amp. Sounds great with 2 channel music and in Dolby Digital with my Technics SA500 DD processor. Very good receiver. My other equipment: |

I have owned this receiver for about 8 months. It provides very clean sound when used for music or home theater. I run it with the DDP-1 for home theater with a DVD or a LD. The AC-3 surround will blow you away. I no longer care to go to the movie theater, as this sound system is far better than any theater system that I have experienced. The sound is more detailed and articulate compared to the Denon AV-3600 that I auditioned when I purchased this unit. |

The 2090 is a very solid receiver especially for the money. I have truly enjoyed it over the last fourteen months. The only draw back I can see is that it does not allow enough digital inputs for both a DVD, and Laserdisk. You can only run one or the other. Four and Half Stars |
