I Was Listening To This receiver a couple of months ago. i thought wow this receiver is amazing. i listened to it for about 20 min. then i left to go home to get some test CD's and a Dolby Laboratories DD/DPL Test CD. The Salesman there happily let me try it out. i listened to it w/Polk Audio RM5300 the Sound Was Great and Better yet the DSP Sound Fields Where Great. i was about to buy it when i saw the Sony STR-DA90ESG (one of Sony's High-End Receivers) i thought "it's Sony I can't expect much from it, but look at the price it might be good ($1599) so i had the salesman hook up the Polk Audio Speakers. than i turned it on. Wow. the Sound Was Superb the Bass Was booming the highs weren't Screaming High but were perfect. The Yamaha Receiver's DSP i Though Sounded Great. the Sound was wide but i found 1 flaw for the Yamaha .the closer you got to the middle of the l/r speakers the worse the sound got. and the Yamaha Receiver had a Very Wide sound but i expected more from yamaha. but Sony's ES Receiver had a Great DSP Processor. when he hooked up the Digital Optical (Fiber Optic) cable to the DVD and turned on The Fifth Element i thought to myself "Should I Get Some Popcorn" the Sound Was Great the DSP Soundfields made it sound like a actual theater. if you were blind and someone told you to sit in a chair you wouldn't be able to tell that it's a small puny receiver. in my opinion if your thinking about buying this receiver than save up more money and get the Sony STR-DA80ESG or the Sony STR-DA80ES. but if your not looking for Dolby Digital Built in than get the Sony STR-GA8ES or STR-GA7ES. and All Sony ES Equipment Come With a 5 Year Limited Warranty. |

After much reading (magazines and audio reviews) and a few buddies' personal reviews, I bought my first Yamaha receiver. It however, was the RXV-992. I was immediately impressed with the quality of the sound, but wanted a few more watts. I finally bit the bullet and upgraded to its big brother, the RXV2092. I had to think awhile about the $600 extra cost for 20 watts and 2 front effects channnels. During that time, I pulled out all the research material I had to see if the extra cost could be justified. What finally got me over the hump were reviews here. As a potential 10 year component, the extra cost I feel will become insignificant over time. I have had the receiver for roughly a month. It is much heavier than the 992. At some point, I will probably by a more powerful amp for the front channels. As a hobbyist component, there are many manufacturers competing for the same dollars. In my mind, I have bought their best, from a company with a long standing reputation as one of the best. |

Help, I am going to purchase the Yamaha RXV 2090 this week from Sound Advice in Florida. However I have noted the lack of upgradeability for DTS. Is this a problem or do forward/to be released DVD machines contemplating DTS onboard decoding? |

I don't wanna knock anyones opinion, but I would steer clear of he Sony. Sony receivers CAN NOT handle low impedance loads. I have had two Sony's and neither one could drive my speakers past 5 watts before shutting down. I purchased the Yamaha 2092 receiver for home theater. It is suprisingly close two my audio/seperates system. I have never heard a receiver that is as good as this one. Buy the RV-X2092 and You will keep it. A regret free decision. |

Outstanding Receiver! Excellent bass, midrange. Movies/music sound awesome! Dsp's on this receiver are nice and, in most cases, useful. I hooked up quality front effect speakers for 7 ch. sound, and they add dramatically to the overall sound field--like a real theater! Remote is complicated but looks nice. Only gripes: no DTS, no AC3 RF input (but I bought an external RF demodulator). Highly recommended. Home Theater mag. rates it as their unofficial "top" receiver, also. |

Dear Mr. Bohner, I believe it's called, uhm, what was it now? Oh, yes; Capitalism. There are rumors the country known as "The United States of America" has attained a certain degree of world leadership through democratic use of Capitalistic principles. Of, course, Mr. Bohner, this is simple a reflection of my Constitutional rights... Also, because of your "deafness" comment I suppose you are religious faithful of Western orthodoxy..perfect example, sir. P.S. I think Yamaha products are great, I ride one everyday. |

I first bought the Denon AVR-3200 because the price was right and, at the time, I thought it had all the things that I needed. However, when I got it home and hooked it up I found that it did not have an A-B speaker switch. I could not believe that a $1200.00 receiver did not have the ability to shut off my speakers upstairs when watching a movie. Unbelieveable!! Enter the Yamaha RX-V2092. I took back the Denon, and for a mere $250.00 more, got the A-B speaker switch and a boatload more. I love this unit. The flexibility, the sound, and the Yamaha quality. I should have known better in the first place and saved my self a lot of trouble. Buy it, you'll like it! Oh, I almost forgot - once I figure out the remote, I'll probably like that, too! |

I PURCHASED A 2092 LAST JUNE AND I HAVE BEEN THOUROUGHLY IMPRESSED WITH IT. MANY OF MY "AUDIOPHILE" TYPE FRIENDS HAD UNDERESTIMATED IT UNTIL THEY TOOK IT FOR A TEST DRIVE. I DO HAVE A FEW GRIPES, HOWEVER. THE NASTY ORANGE LIGHTS THAT CANNOT BE DIMMED (THIS TECHNOLOGY HASN'T MADE THE JUMP FROM THEIR CD PLAYERS). YAHAMA COULD FOLLOW COMPANIES LIKE HK (SIGNITURE SERIES BLUE). ALSO, THE REMOTE IS A GREAT CONVERSATION PIECE AND A GREAT TOOL, BUT IT COULD BE A BIT MORE ERGONOMIC- I'M SURE SHAQ CAN WRAP HIS HAND AROUND IT, BUT I'M HAVING A LITTLE TROUBLE. |
